Background & History

Earlier actions

The War God later claimed that he learned of a coming invasion from beyond the planet three thousand years earlier. He said that his later theft of other gods’ authorities was intended to build a force capable of resisting those invaders, though this confession came only as he was being destroyed 169.

Over a thousand years before the main conflict, one of his avatars entered the Tulip Kingdom. He promised to train war priests and eventually lead an expedition through the rift, but never returned. During this visit, he took the Tulip Spirit, Lady Dream’s powerful divine artifact 303.

He also corrupted the Dawn Royal House. After the royal family appeared to abandon him for the God of Light, his curse prevented them from supplying Faith Power to other gods; the Dawn King eventually became his puppet 60.

The War God ordered Roger’s father to sacrifice Roger because Roger carried mortal blood that the increasingly mad god despised. The Marriage Goddess intervened, sending Roger away rather than allowing him to be taken to the War God’s Divine Kingdom for torture 60.

Tiele invasion and the Blizzard Miracle

The War God ordered the Tiele Chiefdom to wage a great war against the Dawn Kingdom, causing more than 100,000 orcs, half-orcs, and humans to mobilize beneath his banner 46 47.

At Twilight City, his priests invoked the Flame of War and called down the Blizzard Miracle. The storm crippled the defenders’ visibility and movement while allowing his followers to advance unhindered 51. His miracle, Heroes in the Blizzard, enhanced strength, speed, courage, and fighting spirit, while granting affected warriors one resurrection 52.

When the Tiele high priest and accompanying priests sacrificed themselves in the Flame of War, the War God manifested an apparition over the battlefield. The miracle revived the fallen beastmen and Minotaur Knight Order, while Ragehorn returned as a three-headed, six-armed killing machine 54.

The apparition faded after the Magic Goddess confronted the War God directly. Without his blessing, the Tiele army collapsed under Twilight City’s Magitech bombardment 55.

Corruption, expansion, and Celebration Day

The War God continued spreading pollution into the Greater Fallen World while attempting to seize the God of Wine’s authority. Roger exploited the connection, using the projection and its pollution as a channel for a counterattack 97 99.

His church later adopted increasingly extreme practices, including transforming slaves, serfs, and peasants into short-lived War God Brutes by draining their life force through miracles 151. The exposure of these methods caused public outrage and weakened the Church of War’s legitimacy across the continent 153.

For Celebration Day, the War Pope sacrificed souls, corpses, and ultimately his own soul through the Flame of War. The resulting ripple spread through War God Churches across the continent, inflaming believers into violence and helping trigger continent-wide war, mutiny, looting, and rebellion 158 160.

The War God used this “Ultimate War” to increase his own power while weakening rival gods through the death and disruption of their believers. He then attacked the Magic Goddess’s Divine Kingdom to reclaim lost authority and pursue revenge 161.

Fall

Roger and the Music God undermined the War God’s mortal foundation by spreading doubt and conflicting prayers among his followers. The contradictory Faith Power destabilized the War God’s mind and weakened him enough for the Magic Goddess to gain the advantage 167.

During the ensuing divine battle, the War God revealed that he had absorbed authorities associated with war, industry and craft, wine, dreams, marriage, fertility, and other domains. He attempted to force the pantheon into a single entity, declaring his goal to become the sole “Astral Spirit God” 167.

Roger attacked from the Mechanical Warform using rockets and mechanical constructs infused with War Authority. Because the attacks carried the War God’s own authority, they bypassed his normal defenses and contaminated his divine body from within 168 169.

After repeated strikes, the War God’s body shriveled and his stolen authorities began abandoning him. Before disappearing, he warned the gods of the extraterrestrial threat he claimed had motivated his actions 169.

Appearance

The War God is chiefly seen through projections and apparitions rather than a stable mortal form. His manifestations are associated with enormous size, martial equipment, crimson battle intent, and increasingly monstrous corruption.

The War God is violent, manipulative, and willing to sacrifice followers, priests, and entire societies to generate conflict. He treated mortal war as both a source of power and a tool for eroding rival gods, even when the resulting chaos harmed his own believers 161.

His actions indicate severe corruption or madness. He despised mortal blood, orchestrated Roger’s sacrifice, spread divine pollution, consumed other gods’ Faith Power, and attempted to forcibly merge the pantheon into himself 60 99 167.

Near death, he briefly regained clarity and framed his atrocities as preparation for an outside invasion. This explanation contextualized his actions but did not undo the destruction caused by his authority thefts, religious purges, and manufactured wars 169.
