"So it was just a bunch of small fry? That's not what I expected."
Outside the Music Academy, John watched Galil's Silver Moon Dance swiftly cut down the United States of Amika agents. They had been helpless from start to finish, and his Magic Eye had failed to spot Raven among them. He frowned, uncertainty flickering in his eyes.
He raised a hand and cast an Upper Tier fire spell, blasting through the head of an agent who tried to attack him. Ignoring the stunned female teaching assistant beside him, he closed his eyes and expanded his detection spell to its limit.
Only after sweeping the entire academy without finding the aura of the Raven mage he had previously locked onto did he withdraw the spell and sigh.
Before reaching the Music Academy, he had devised nine traps to ambush and capture that transcendent Mage.
The one possibility he had not considered was that she might not have taken part in the attack at all.
Was my rotten luck acting up again?
"Sir, I've eliminated all the enemies. What should we do next?"
John was wondering whether to go back and have Wendy conduct a blessing ceremony so he could borrow a little of her good luck to cancel out his own misfortune when Galil, who had somehow appeared beside him, spoke again. "Also, I found some unusual magic devices on the spies' bodies. They don't match Empire or Allied Forces designs. Would you like to examine one?"
Galil handed him a peculiar crystal device. After a quick look, John confirmed that it was a Communication Device belonging to the United States of Amika.
Unlike the Empire's dual magic-and-electromagnetic drive or the Allied Forces' magic inscriptions, the United States of Amika's Communication Device used a Magic Crystal as its medium.
