Background / History
A five-year veteran of the Imperial magitech forces, Wendy previously served under a captain who disregarded her advice and led their squad into an Allied ambush. Most of the unit was killed; Wendy and the captain survived, but he blamed her for the loss. She was consequently demoted from master corporal to sergeant. Hoping that a vice-captain appointment would let her prevent another needless disaster, she was instead assigned beneath John Maslow in the newly formed Squad 14. 12
Wendy initially viewed John as another politically favored academy officer placed over more experienced soldiers. His seven-hour delay of the squad’s patrol, repeated rank-based humiliations, and threats of dismissal reinforced her distrust. 11 12
Her view changed after John ordered the delayed night patrol. Wendy led the squad to ambush an Allied infiltration force, killing about thirty enemy soldiers, capturing its commander, and seizing its explosives. Believing the patrol timing had been deliberate, she began to regard John as an exceptional strategist. 13
Wendy is a collateral descendant of the Brown Kingdom's royal family. Her parents fled to the Norman Empire amid a purge that killed members of the Brown royal family, and she spent years concealing her status while serving as an Imperial Mage Soldier. She initially believed that the Brown royals had died naturally and that the De Vries Family would support a future restoration. 84 251 342 343
John later reveals that the Brown royal family's fall was the result of a long-term conspiracy involving the Sankaster, Valdren, and De Vries Families and the Loran Kingdom. Although this revelation devastates Wendy, John promises to support her eventual return to the Brown throne after they have built sufficient power and advanced their wider vision of reform. 343

Appearance
Wendy is a young woman with a compact, youthful appearance, usually seen in the black-and-gold uniform of an Imperial magitech soldier. 11
- Chestnut, ear-length short hair. 11
- Azure eyes. 11
- Thin lips and a round face. 11 33
- Carries a magic rifle and wears a magic pack for assisted flight on operations. 13 17
- Her round, youthful appearance and short stature frequently cause John and others to call her “pigheaded” or compare her to a small potato. 265 341
- Later wears Faoken administrative attire as well as her Major's uniform while acting as the Governor's deputy. 429 456
Personality
Wendy is disciplined, candid, and highly protective of her squad. Her previous commander’s betrayal made her unwilling to silently accept decisions that might endanger soldiers, even when military hierarchy forces her to obey. 12
She is also enthusiastic and literal-minded. John’s improvised explanations and patriotic speeches repeatedly convince her that his selfish schemes are acts of strategic brilliance or selfless leadership. Her admiration grows into a strong personal desire to follow him and become strong enough to protect him. 20 28
Around John, Wendy is informal, mischievous, and competitive. She teases him over the Imperial jeeps, attempts to evade his retaliatory punishments, and becomes jealous when he praises Laiya Binote. 35 38 41 Her zeal can become reckless: she eagerly conducts ideological drills and wrongly detains a frightened villager as a suspected spy. 33 49
Wendy is fiercely merit-driven and initially resents being assigned safe or inactive duties, even when John is trying to protect her and Squad 14 from battlefield danger. However, she gradually internalizes his stated principles regarding civilian protection and becomes willing to confront Imperial soldiers who loot or abuse civilians. 70 136 203
Although she often calls herself an ordinary, talentless soldier compared with Hawk, Laiya, and John's other subordinates, Wendy is deeply self-critical rather than genuinely lacking ability. Her insecurity fuels both her relentless training and her desire to become the person most worthy of standing at John's side. 251
As Faoken's deputy, Wendy becomes more sarcastic, administratively capable, and comfortable with John's political ruthlessness. She remains playful and prone to elaborate misunderstandings, but displays increasing emotional intelligence, such as recognizing John's hidden stress and encouraging him to rely on his comrades. 279 378 429 443
Wendy's loyalty to John has developed into romantic affection. She is openly jealous of Sellviya, suspicious of Ailafia's interest in him, and views the contest for his affection as both a personal and political struggle. 265 279 325 429

Wendy is identified as Squad 14’s strongest fighter and one of its most experienced members. 17

- Ordered the use of armor-piercing rounds and secured the enemy commander’s surrender after the initial strike. 13
- Has five years of combat experience. 13 17

- Captured an Allied major during the Horseshoe Mountain operation and later led Squad 14 in destroying three Allied strongholds while preserving valuable supplies. 56 70
- Participated in the nighttime capture of Major General Tony Laila, using prepared sedatives and restraints to ensure he was taken alive. 138
Spellcraft
Wendy is unusually versatile for an Imperial magitech soldier. 17
- Demolition Spell — Standard offensive spell used by Imperial magic soldiers. 17
- Magic Eye — Enhances her sight for reconnaissance; she used it to identify Allied soldiers in darkness and to confirm Anti-Magic Device Cores in enemy trenches. 13 20
- Healing Spell — Allows her to provide medical support. 17
- Telepathy Spell — Can conduct limited long-distance communication when assisted by a mana amplifier. 17
- Elite Magic Eye Control — Can rapidly magnify and inspect distant scenery, a level of Magic Eye control possessed by only a minority of Imperial Mage Soldiers. 112
- Golden Law Prayer — As a Brown bloodline descendant, Wendy knows a prayer invoking the Golden Law and her ancestor's golden light. She states, however, that she did not inherit the Brown Family's Miracle Formula, and the extent of any inherited blessing remains unclear. 251 342
Marksmanship
Wendy practices shooting daily to improve herself for future missions. 28
- Fired six shots from an M500 revolver at a target one hundred meters away; all struck the bullseye with virtually no deviation. 28
- Maintains her magic rifle personally when not on duty. 17
- Remains a regular shooting practitioner even after moving into Faoken's administrative work. 413
Leadership and Administration
- Organizes Squad 14 rapidly for missions and enforces its ideological discipline through the “Maslow Quotations.” 33 55
- Preserved enemy supplies during the three-village night operation by limiting the range of Squad 14's explosive magic. 70
- Helped organize Faoken's Gambling God Challenge, including spectator stands, magical projection broadcasts, and anti-magic monitoring. 456
- Serves as Governor John's deputy and Minister of the Department of Government Affairs, reporting administrative, personnel, intelligence, and military matters. 429 443

- Steel Bone Armor test unit, which she pilots during Faoken's evaluation of the new exoskeleton system. 447 449
Relationships
- John Maslow — Her commander. Wendy begins as a resentful subordinate who sees him as an irresponsible academy officer, then becomes deeply loyal after repeatedly misreading his improvisations and self-preservation as genius and self-sacrifice. 11 13 20 28 Her loyalty becomes personal and romantic; she worries about his safety, seeks to become his most trusted supporter, and later accepts his promise to help restore the Brown Kingdom. Wendy kisses his cheek and calls him her beloved knight, while John calls her his princess. 251 265 343
- Squad 14 — Wendy serves as its deputy captain and combat leader. She is protective of its members, organizes them quickly for missions, and later acts as their ideological instructor for the “Maslow Quotations.” 12 17 33 Even after the squad's original role changes, she remains attached to its members and leads them on operations. 70 203
- Laiya Binote — A fellow subordinate under John’s joint operation. Wendy recognizes Laiya’s Black Eagle reputation, but competitively guards her own place as John’s “right-hand woman.” 34 35 Although their relationship begins as a rivalry, Wendy later treats Laiya as an ally in the struggle over John's affection and attempts to prevent Ailafia from manipulating her. 138 301 325
- General Dormammu — His order makes Wendy the pilot instructor for the army’s official “Maslow Quotations” program. 34 Wendy also follows his intelligence and deployment orders during the Bahamut crisis. 84 85
- Siegfried Fafner — Wendy initially suspects Siegfried and the Stone Village villagers of being Allied spies, but accepts their intelligence after analyzing his unusual magical aura. She later leads him and Squad 14 against the Allied force at Horseshoe Mountain. 54 55
- Sellviya Reinhart — Wendy regards Sellviya as a powerful romantic rival because of Sellviya's engagement to John, royal authority, and command of the Red and Sea Dragon Clans. She is determined not to let Sellviya control or diminish John. 265 325
- Princess Ailafia — Wendy views Ailafia's childhood connection to John and attempt to recruit Laiya as a direct declaration of war in their romantic-political rivalry. 279 325
- Meyer Sistana — Wendy alternates between mentoring, teasing, and exploiting the naïve Beastfolk sage. She convinces Meyer to care for the Governor's Office garden and misleads her into planting carrots upside down. 378 384 449
- Marda — A close Faoken colleague and accomplice in administrative and prison-security schemes. Marda is also one of the few people to recognize that Wendy's Gambling God Challenge victories may be the result of extraordinary luck rather than skill. 378 459
Story Role / Major Arcs
Delayed Patrol and Allied Ambush
Wendy confronts John over Squad 14’s stalled patrol and reluctantly leads the unit into the night. Her battlefield judgment turns the mission into a major success, unintentionally ruining John’s attempt to appear incompetent and retire. 12 13
Anti-Magic Device Operation
During the covert operation near the Walden Front, Wendy questions John’s cautious pace but accepts his explanation. She scouts the suspected Anti-Magic Device site with four scouts, confirms the cores through Magic Eye, and leads Squad 14 away when John falsely claims the location is bait. She interprets his attempt to defect alone as a noble sacrifice and swears to carry out his orders. 18 20
Walden Victory Aftermath
After the Anti-Magic Device’s destruction and the Imperial victory at Walden, Wendy trains at the shooting range every day. She feels guilty that she could not protect John during the operation and resolves to become stronger so she can follow him properly. 28
“Maslow Quotations” Program
Wendy oversees Squad 14’s compulsory recitation of John’s statements after Dormammu has them compiled as official “Empire Spirit” material. When John attempts to stop the practice, she instead proposes a permanent study group, helping turn his unwanted propaganda into a broader cult-like movement. 33 34
Bahamut Operation
Wendy accompanies John and Laiya toward Bahamut Town. She becomes involved in John’s troop-division plan, endures his revenge for withholding the jeep’s poor condition, and later identifies the suspicious value of a merchant caravan’s gold—forcing John to reconsider his attempted extortion. 38 41 44
At Stone Village, Wendy mistakes the terrified civilian Mike for an Allied spy and eagerly proposes interrogating him. John rebukes her, exposing her continuing tendency to equate fear and suspicious behavior with enemy activity. 49
Stone Village and Horseshoe Mountain Operations
While guarding John's tent at Stone Village, Wendy treats nine villagers led by Siegfried as potential assassins and establishes extensive security before hearing their intelligence. After determining that Siegfried's unusual aura does not match Imperial, inherited, or Allied magic systems, she accepts his information and leads ten Mage Soldiers against an Allied Fifth Legion force of 431 soldiers. 54 55
Wendy's unit captures an Allied major, which she attributes to John's policy of winning civilian support. John uses the moment to teach that the Empire's true enemies include those who exploit civilians and undermine public trust, further deepening Wendy's devotion to “Maslow Spirit.” 56
Three-Village Raid
John entrusts Wendy and Squad 14 with an overnight attack on Allied strongholds in three villages. Wendy limits the squad's demolition magic to preserve captured supplies and returns with enemy communications equipment, jewels, and currency valued at roughly 80,000 Imperial D. 64 70
Her attempt to deny the exhausted squad rest in order to demonstrate loyalty leads John to reprimand her for creating a “rat race.” Despite this, Wendy sincerely tells him that he is the best commander in the world and that serving under him is her greatest fortune. 70
Bahamut Town Counterintelligence
Wendy interrogates Baron Myka after the Bahamut Town operation and intends to ensure his execution for his role in the assassination attempt against John. Myka recognizes her Brown royal heritage and tries to trade intelligence about an Allied spy for immunity, but Colonel Jett's existing investigation makes his information obsolete. 84
Wendy later reveals that Captain Baronov was the Allied spy responsible for leading Mage Soldier squads into an ambush. She orders Mia to report the stopped assassination plot to Dormammu and keeps Squad 14 behind to protect John and help govern Bahamut Town. 85
Horseshoe City Conflict
As commander of the Guard Unit, Wendy confronts First Division soldiers looting a centaur shop and abusing its owner. She defeats their captain, threatens the group with her Magic Rifle, and forces them to return the stolen goods. 136
Major General Tony Laila attempts to have Wendy harshly punished, but John accepts responsibility for her actions and protects her through the claim that her overloaded rifle could not actually fire. Wendy is removed from command of the Guard Unit as a compromise rather than being surrendered to Tony's authority. 136
Wendy later joins Laiya and Siegfried in the covert capture of Tony. She uses sedatives to prevent Laiya's excessive force from killing him and criticizes Laiya while encouraging her to develop better restraint. 138
Fifth Legion Campaign
Wendy assists John's campaign against Roxy Sankaster's Fifth Legion, including reconnaissance and attacks on enemy facilities. Her casual remarks about lightning lead John to devise a lightning-rod field capable of interfering with Orion Frost's spatial magic, and she oversees the emergency forging and placement of forty metal columns at Chokehold Peak. 156 179
During John's fatal strike against Roxy's army, he orders Wendy off the battlefield because he fears her unpredictable luck will interfere with his plan. Wendy misinterprets her evacuation and subsequent aerial search assignment as an opportunity to hunt surviving enemies, especially Roxy. 233 234
Battle for Faoken
Wendy continues to support John during the Faoken campaign, though he tries to protect the former Squad 14 members by assigning them to clear magical beasts along a safer evacuation route. Her eagerness for combat frustrates him, but reflects her enduring desire for military merit and usefulness. 203
She later delivers the intelligence that Allied spies have boarded the enemy transports carrying Hellfire Suicide Dolls, resolving John's apparent choice between infiltrating the fleet and destroying the Bloodhowl Legion's Anti-Magic Devices. John's relief leads him to call Wendy his lucky star and goddess of luck. 246
After the battle, Wendy recognizes Sellviya as a serious romantic rival and resolves to keep Sellviya from taking John away or turning him into someone less brilliant. 265
Royal Revelation and Promise
Wendy returns early from leave to reveal that she is the wandering princess of the Brown Kingdom. Her attempted aerial reunion ends disastrously when her depleted Mage Pack malfunctions and sends her spinning into John, breaking three of his ribs. 341
She explains her collateral royal descent and the suspicious deaths of the Brown royals. When John reveals the deeper conspiracy behind the kingdom's fall, Wendy realizes that a straightforward restoration is impossible. John instead promises to stand beside her until she can return to the Brown Kingdom with the strength to reclaim her throne. 342 343
Faoken Administration
As John's deputy and Faoken's Minister of the Department of Government Affairs, Wendy takes part in administrative planning, intelligence work, personnel matters, and political deception. She helps John and Marda arrange Meyer's controlled prison escape by monitoring the foxfolk sage's repeated failed escape attempts and mocking her gullibility. 378
Wendy also becomes increasingly mischievous in her treatment of Meyer, persuading her to maintain the Governor's Office garden and falsely telling her that carrots should be planted upside down. 384 449
Steel Bone Armor Development
Wendy is among the first soldiers to see and test Fanny's Steel Bone Armor. She immediately recognizes its battlefield potential and praises it as a sacred weapon and work of art, then remains at the testing ground to experience the armor personally. 447 449
Gambling God Challenge
Wendy organizes Faoken's Gambling God Challenge and enters after learning that the winner may make one reasonable request of John. Her hidden goal is to win an official date with him and gain an advantage over her romantic rivals. 429 456
Despite being a novice at Triumph Cards, Wendy advances through repeated improbable victories. Her opponents mistake her obvious inexperience for unfathomable strategy, while Marda concludes that Wendy may be favored by the Goddess of Luck. 459 460
In the final, Akweiler's excessive caution causes him to fold a straight flush to Wendy's accidental bluff. When his later cheating attempt is derailed by an impossible sequence of coincidences, he concedes defeat, and Wendy becomes Faoken's first Gambling God—while remaining largely unaware of why she won. 461 462 463
