Death of the Venomfang Chief, an Honest Talk

The people of Morningstar City knew nothing of Gabri's plans to strike at the Venomfang Clan, so they continued with their original arrangements. After lunch, Meyer, as the Sage Successor, invited both the Venomfang Clan and the Bull Clan to an unexplored ruin in the Morning Star Territory. Under Wendy and the others' direction, she put on a convincing display of divine power, leaving Gabri certain that she was the new Sage. Even Kha'Zix, who had steadfastly believed she was an impostor, began to waver.

After the display, Meyer followed the Sage Support Department's instructions, with Gray Hoof playing along. Claiming that she lacked the mana to conduct the blessing ceremony without a rest, she led everyone back to Morningstar City.

To reinforce the impression that her mana was depleted, Meyer also "graciously" declined to attend the evening banquet.

When Gabri learned that Meyer would not attend, his interest evaporated. He had hoped to ask the new Sage about her plans and whether she possessed the power to evolve Beastfolk bloodlines. Instead, he wore a long face throughout the banquet, as though someone owed him millions of D.

Likewise, Kha'Zix was disappointed to hear that the "impostor" Sage would not attend.

He had planned to approach her at the banquet and find out whether Faoken was backing her. If it was, he might be able to redirect Gabri's hostility toward her and make him leave the Venomfang Clan alone for the time being.

But she had not even come to the banquet. His plan had fallen apart before he could put it into action.

To Kha'Zix's surprise, however, nothing unusual happened all evening. The banquet was utterly uneventful.

No one from the Bull Clan made trouble for the Venomfang Clan. Even Gabri maintained a lukewarm attitude, as though their clash
