Background / History
Faoken was captured by the Empire’s First Ground Army Group eight years before John Maslow’s governorship. The region remained an embattled military frontier, repeatedly harassed by hostile forces until the damaged First Ground Army Group was withdrawn and the Second Army Group under Doran assumed its defense. 241
Following the Fauken Campaign, John was appointed Governor of Faoken, Viscount of Faoken, and lieutenant general of the 303rd Independent Division. His campaign record and rapid promotion made him the fastest-promoted lieutenant general in Imperial history. 391
The Empire subsequently granted Faoken broad autonomous authority. John used this latitude to pursue local legislation, military expansion, industrialization, and diplomatic partnerships with neighboring Beastfolk clans without relying on the Imperial council. 364
Faoken’s first reconstruction phase focused on reclaiming land, containing epidemics, clearing camps, building drainage, establishing trade, and stabilizing relations with the surrounding clans. 370 Within six months, its former improvised harbor had expanded into a major commercial port whose scale rivaled the largest ports of the Ostan Duchy. 497
Government and Administration
John’s administration combines material incentives with strict political control.
- Population registration — Residents and cooperating Beastfolk are registered through the civil affairs office, issued temporary residence permits, and offered free rations. The government also records occupational skills for future labor assignment. 370
- Infrastructure policy — Faoken’s first major road was planned to connect the port with the red iron mine, using paid Beastfolk labor. 370
- Public health — Military inspections and epidemic quarantine were completed during the initial reconstruction phase; Netherwater Grass was confirmed as an effective treatment for Rotfever. 370
- Local military authority — Faoken maintains its own territorial forces, including the 303rd Independent Division, naval training units, Mage Soldiers, and the Rapid Response Force. 364 401
- Talent recruitment — The Faoken Ancient Ruins Exploration Plan offers explorers seventy percent of recovered treasure, expedition services, honorary citizenship, and rewards for ancient magitek discoveries. Its underlying purpose is to attract skilled personnel to Faoken. 399
- Chief Construct Engineer — Fanny Westron was recruited as Faoken’s Chief Construct Engineer, retaining personal rights to her designs while Faoken receives manufacturing rights for her combat constructs. 426
Development and Infrastructure
| Initiative | Documented Development |
|---|---|
| Mining and trade | Mining operations and border trade posts became operational during Faoken’s early expansion. 399 |
| Magecraft industry | The Imperial Research Institute established a Magic Workshop in Faoken to produce magitek devices. 399 |
| Magic Crystal power | Revival City’s Governor’s Office uses three enormous Magic Crystals to power lighting, water, ventilation, barriers, and other systems; the crystals can theoretically operate for over fifty years. 404 |
| Cultivation Towers | Faoken constructed multi-level agricultural towers that combine compatible magical crops, recycle mana, and accelerate growth. Two premium towers can each generate about 2 million D in revenue every six months at a cost of 500,000 D. 405 |
| Industrial transport | Magecraft vehicles, trains, road machinery, construction sites, and expanded trade routes were demonstrated to visiting Beastfolk elders as evidence of Faoken’s industrial capacity. 404 |
| Secret shipyard | A hidden shipyard inside Sea-Gate Cliff constructed the Faoken Pioneer, an armored warship with enhanced magic defenses, artillery, torpedo launchers, Beam Magic Cannon ports, and interference-resistant communications. 472 |
Revival City
Revival City is Faoken’s administrative and industrial center. Its visible transformation—from former Fang Clan territory into a city of farmland, cultivation towers, factories, roads, and mixed human-Beastfolk labor—became a central tool of Faoken’s diplomacy. 404
Faoken’s regional emblem depicts a golden hand holding a magic gear and an ear of wheat on a dark-blue field, representing industry, magecraft, and agricultural development. 406
Military Forces and Technology
Steel Bone Armor
Faoken’s most significant mass-production military equipment is the Steel Bone Armor—also called Steelbone Assault Type 1 armor—developed by Fanny years ahead of its expected appearance. 447
- A 2.2-meter dark-silver exoskeleton using magic circuits, hydraulic joints, shock absorbers, and three retractable Magic Cores. 447
- Includes identification runes that lock all joints around unauthorized users. 447
- Uses a seven-layer defensive structure, including mithril-steel plating, impact-dispersing alloy, cushioning layers, and health-monitoring magic fiber. 447
- Can withstand a full-force High Mage attack without fracturing, though the wearer still suffers part of the impact. 447
- Its detection core can identify magic fluctuations, life signs, and heat signatures within 300 meters and project the information into the wearer’s vision. 447
- Operates for approximately eight hours and enables an ordinary wearer to run thirty kilometers, leap seven meters, and strike with High Mage-level force. 447
- Kevin Perus’s testing confirmed that the armor improves speed, physical power, spellcasting speed, and spell power without obstructing magic use. 468
Faoken’s workshop could produce five hundred sets per month at an estimated cost of 3,000 D per suit, with projected standardized output eventually reaching 3,000–6,000 units monthly if materials permit. 448
Steel Bone Corps
The Steel Bone Corps fields armored soldiers with at least High Mage-level combat power. During the Black Panther conflict, Samantha commanded 1,200 Steel Bone soldiers against the Black Panther Clan’s allied army. 504
The corps suffered a 4.1% loss rate during the Battle of Blood Oath Rock, substantially below the expected 15% casualty rate. 526
Crystal Cannons
Faoken developed crystal-based artillery capable of permanently reshaping terrain and magical conditions.
- An early crystal shell test destroyed and crystallized an area more than three kilometers wide around an abandoned fortress, creating a Forced Low-Magic Domain. 406
- The Annihilation Crystal Cannon later crystallized Black Panther soldiers within a one-kilometer radius into purple crystal statues, breaking the enemy army’s morale and forcing Crown Tier commander Victor to retreat. 504
- Faoken identified projectile speed as a remaining weakness requiring improvement after the Battle of Blood Oath Rock. 526
Rapid Response Force
Laiya was ordered to form a 100-person Rapid Response Force drawn from all Faoken units and races. John intended it to serve as a loyal, highly destructive force for resolving threats when negotiation failed. 370
The force later received priority for Steel Bone Armor deployment, with 150 members scheduled for equipment within the first month of production. 448
Demon King’s Army Support
Balga Istania, the Crown Tier World-Shattering Fist, was assigned to protect John in Faoken for two years. 349 Initially resentful and openly hostile to Beastfolk, Balga later recognized John’s abilities, renewed his loyalty, and offered to obey John’s personal orders. 384 412
At Blood Oath Rock, Balga killed Crown Tier commanders Gana and Victor within a spatial duel domain, decisively contributing to the destruction of the Saga Kingdom’s eastern expeditionary army. 524
Relations
- The Empire — Faoken remains an Imperial autonomous region, though its legal autonomy gives John significant independence in governance, military organization, and emergency action. 364 464
- Morning Star Clan — Faoken established a long-term cooperation framework involving discounted grain, agricultural support, mage-forged horseshoes, equipment, and non-direct military support. 383 Adam Morning Star’s later assassination attempt severely damaged the clan’s standing with Faoken. 412 415
- Black Marsh Clan — Kazak abandoned plans to oppose Faoken after witnessing its military and magical strength, then sought deeper cooperation, education, and reform for his people. 412
- Bull Clan — Faoken’s alliance with the Bull Clan deepened through the Sage project, military intervention, and assistance with the Geothermal Rift. After Gabri was critically injured at Blood Oath Rock, Golden Horn pledged the Bull Clan’s eternal loyalty to Faoken in exchange for treatment. 485 524
- Hohenheim Family — The Hohenheims allied with Faoken after John offered treatment for Marshal Cain’s Nightmare Curse. Fritz later committed the family’s political influence to supporting Faoken’s interests. 433 440
- Saga Kingdom — Faoken maintains tense commercial and political dealings with the Saga Kingdom while covertly influencing its internal royal succession struggle through Robrek Black Abyss. 489 491 495
- Demon King’s Army — The Demon King’s faction provided Faoken with Balga’s protection and later granted John a Holographic Compass with access to the Eye of Truth Corps intelligence network. 349 488
Major Conflicts
- Fauken Campaign — John’s earlier victory established his reputation and led to his appointment as Faoken’s governor. 391
- Morning Star assassination attempt — Adam Morning Star attempted to kill John and sabotage Faoken’s facilities; John subdued him, while Balga permanently stripped Adam’s ability to gather mana. 412 415
- Froststar–Venomfang plot — John identified simultaneous attacks on the Black Marsh and Morning Star Clans as a diversion intended to weaken Revival City before an assassination attempt. 418
- Black Panther conflict — Faoken’s Steel Bone Corps and crystal artillery intervened in support of the Bull Clan, routing the Black Panther coalition. 504
- Battle of Blood Oath Rock — Faoken, the Bull Clan, Morning Star Clan, Black Marsh Clan, and allied forces annihilated the Saga Kingdom’s eastern expeditionary army of 45,000 troops and three Crown Tier commanders. 524
Trivia
- Faoken’s port expanded roughly tenfold in six months. 497
