| Name | Wendy Brown (温蒂) |
| Gender | Female |
| Affiliation | Imperial Army; 14th Mobile Magitech Soldier Squad; Seventh Air Force 11 17 |
| Occupation / Role | Magitech soldier; deputy captain/vice-captain of Squad 14 11 17 |
| First Appearance | Chapter 11 |
Background / History
A five-year veteran of the Imperial magitech forces, Wendy previously served under a captain who disregarded her advice and led their squad into an Allied ambush. Most of the unit was killed; Wendy and the captain survived, but he blamed her for the loss. She was consequently demoted from master sergeant to sergeant. Hoping that a vice-captain appointment would let her prevent another needless disaster, she was instead assigned beneath John Maslow in the newly formed Squad 14. 12
Wendy initially viewed John as another politically favored academy officer placed over more experienced soldiers. His seven-hour delay of the squad’s patrol, repeated rank-based humiliations, and threats of dismissal reinforced her distrust. 11 12
Her view changed after John ordered the delayed night patrol. Wendy led the squad to ambush an Allied infiltration force, killing about thirty enemy soldiers, capturing its commander, and seizing its explosives. Believing the patrol timing had been deliberate, she began to regard John as an exceptional strategist. 13
Appearance
Wendy is a young woman with a compact, youthful appearance, usually seen in the black-and-gold uniform of an Imperial magitech soldier. 11
- Chestnut, ear-length short hair. 11
- Azure eyes. 11
- Thin lips and a round face. 11 33
- Carries a magic rifle and wears a magic pack for assisted flight on operations. 13 17
Personality
Wendy is disciplined, candid, and highly protective of her squad. Her previous commander’s betrayal made her unwilling to silently accept decisions that might endanger soldiers, even when military hierarchy forces her to obey. 12
She is also enthusiastic and literal-minded. John’s improvised explanations and patriotic speeches repeatedly convince her that his selfish schemes are acts of strategic brilliance or selfless leadership. Her admiration grows into a strong personal desire to follow him and become strong enough to protect him. 20 28
Around John, Wendy is informal, mischievous, and competitive. She teases him over the Imperial jeeps, attempts to evade his retaliatory punishments, and becomes jealous when he praises Laiya Binote. 35 38 41 Her zeal can become reckless: she eagerly conducts ideological drills and wrongly detains a frightened villager as a suspected spy. 33 49

- Squad 14 — Wendy serves as its deputy captain and combat leader. She is protective of its members, organizes them quickly for missions, and later acts as their ideological instructor for the “Maslow Quotations.” 12 17 33
- Laiya Binote — A fellow subordinate under John’s joint operation. Wendy recognizes Laiya’s Black Eagle reputation, but competitively guards her own place as John’s “right-hand woman.” 34 35
- General Dormammu — His order makes Wendy the pilot instructor for the army’s official “Maslow Quotations” program. 34
Story Role / Major Arcs
Delayed Patrol and Allied Ambush
Wendy confronts John over Squad 14’s stalled patrol and reluctantly leads the unit into the night. Her battlefield judgment turns the mission into a major success, unintentionally ruining John’s attempt to appear incompetent and retire. 12 13
Anti-Magic Device Operation
During the covert operation near the Walden Front, Wendy questions John’s cautious pace but accepts his explanation. She scouts the suspected Anti-Magic Device site with four scouts, confirms the cores through Magic Eye, and leads Squad 14 away when John falsely claims the location is bait. She interprets his attempt to defect alone as a noble sacrifice and swears to carry out his orders. 18 20
Walden Victory Aftermath
After the Anti-Magic Device’s destruction and the Imperial victory at Walden, Wendy trains at the shooting range every day. She feels guilty that she could not protect John during the operation and resolves to become stronger so she can follow him properly. 28
“Maslow Quotations” Program
Wendy oversees Squad 14’s compulsory recitation of John’s statements after Dormammu has them compiled as official “Empire Spirit” material. When John attempts to stop the practice, she instead proposes a permanent study group, helping turn his unwanted propaganda into a broader cult-like movement. 33 34
Bahamut Operation
Wendy accompanies John and Laiya toward Bahamut Town. She becomes involved in John’s troop-division plan, endures his revenge for withholding the jeep’s poor condition, and later identifies the suspicious value of a merchant caravan’s gold—forcing John to reconsider his attempted extortion. 38 41 44
At Stone Village, Wendy mistakes the terrified civilian Mike for an Allied spy and eagerly proposes interrogating him. John rebukes her, exposing her continuing tendency to equate fear and suspicious behavior with enemy activity. 49
