Background / History

In the future depicted by Fall of the Empire, the Allied Forces are destined to defeat the Norman Empire within ten years. Their projected strength includes an army of nearly ten million, aerospace warships capable of blanketing the sky, and the protagonist party’s overwhelming combat power. Captain John Maslow is fated to die alongside the Emperor during that defeat. 11

During the Battle of Walden, three Allied legions contained the Empire’s Seventh Air Force through Anti-Magic Devices, which suppressed Imperial magic soldiers and forced the Empire into a costly defensive war. 16

The Allies conducted covert operations behind Imperial lines, including a roughly fifty-man infiltration unit that crossed the Empire’s defenses in a concealed truck. Wendy Brown’s patrol ambushed the unit, killing about thirty soldiers and capturing its commander and explosive cargo. 13

Lieutenant General Roxy Sankaster attempted to turn the Walden front into a decisive Allied victory by feeding the Empire false intelligence about an Anti-Magic Device site. She positioned the 3rd Legion’s Iron Wall special forces at a bait site five kilometers from the genuine device array and prepared a Speed Interference Field to eliminate the Imperial Black Eagle Special Forces. 19

The plan failed after Imperial forces infiltrated the Allied trenches and destroyed the real Anti-Magic Device base. With their anti-magic defenses gone, the Allied Forces’ three legions were driven from Walden within two hours; Imperial reports later recorded approximately 2,000 Allied prisoners, including fourteen officers and a brigadier general. 25 28 29

Following the loss at Walden, Allied leadership shifted toward covert action in Bahamut Town. Roxy authorized an assassination operation against John Maslow, using Baron Myka’s cooperation, staged unrest, a feigned counterattack, and Sellviya’s planned infiltration. 37

The Allied Forces’ Anti-Magic Devices were their principal defense against the Empire’s magic soldiers at Walden.

Troop Reputation

Ordinary Allied patrol soldiers feared Imperial magecraft soldiers, known to them as the Empire’s “Demon Corps” or “Demon Legion.” John Maslow’s claim to command such soldiers was enough to make trench guards hesitate despite his being alone and unarmed. 13 23

Major Operations

Walden Infiltration

An Allied special-operation squad infiltrated Imperial territory during a storm while transporting important cargo. Squad 14 detected and ambushed it from the air, leading the surviving commander to surrender. 13

Walden Anti-Magic Device Trap

Roxy’s command used false device intelligence to lure the Black Eagle Special Forces into an Iron Wall ambush. The operation was intended to destroy the Empire’s reconnaissance capability and open the way for an Allied breakthrough. 19

The plan collapsed when Imperial forces infiltrated the trench position, attacked its defenders, and destroyed the genuine Anti-Magic Device installation. 25 26

Bahamut Assassination Plot

After Walden, Roxy considered John Maslow a dangerous emerging Imperial commander whose alleged false-surrender tactic had reversed the battle. She ordered his assassination before he could grow into a larger threat. 37
