Fierce Battle Outside the Chapel (5)

The massive catapults were among the few weapons capable of threatening the city walls. After only a few rounds of bombardment, they were destroyed by a human knight order that suddenly charged out from the woods to the side. Relying on their superior speed, the knights burned the catapults, slaughtered many Cultists of the Damned tasked with maintaining them, then fled back into the city before the Undead troops could surround them.

Driven mad with rage, Anub'rekhan turned the Undead officers guarding the catapults directly into a field of shattered remains. Gargoyles returning from reconnaissance reported that Tyr's Hand's walls stretched for an astonishing distance and had several small gates specifically for human cavalry to enter and exit.

The knight order that had appeared so suddenly had slipped out through one of those side gates, destroyed the Undead's ranged weapons in one stroke, then escaped back through another gate.

Furious but lacking any better option, the Crypt Fiend lord Anub'rekhan could only resort to the most primitive method of attack. He ordered all Undead soldiers to swarm the walls, suffering enormous casualties as they clashed with the Scarlet Crusade soldiers waiting in tight formation atop the ramparts.

Abbendis positioned a fully assembled knight order at another gate, ready to leave the city at any moment and strike the Undead lines again.

Following their superiors' orders, the rangers began altering their previous battle plan. The Undead force no longer needed them to prioritize killing low-ranking commanders. Under the orders of that not particularly intelligent Crypt Fiend lord, the enemy had lost its entire command structure.

Their targets now were the larger elite Undead soldiers, as well as the more dangerous Undead mages and Howling Banshees. Ordinary Undead soldiers were left to the other ranged fighters and Crusade melee units.
