Morel could not be bothered to listen to their banter. With his pipe between his teeth, he walked around to the tree hollow and examined the traces left after the silvery-white patterns had faded.

Gela Jiang had already jumped down from the roots. He walked several steps down the slope toward the shore, then looked back.

Morel raised his head.

"At least for now." Gela Jiang raised a hand, and water circled once around his palm. "The monsoon matches what this place should have. We can leave."
