Background

Bai Zhu was formerly a wealthy but severely withdrawn shut-in from modern Earth. Before transmigrating, he spent most of his life indulging in expensive cosplay games; after arriving in the Hunter × Hunter world, he received an Achievement System that rewards completed objectives with Reiatsu, Kidō, Achievement Points, healing techniques, and other draws 1.

By the beginning of the story, he has spent months in Sankara Town, Kakin Kingdom, attempting to complete a regional achievement connected to the Creation Society church. He lives under the care of Aunt Hannah and Uncle Gelo, helping with their business and treating them as found family 1 2.

A hidden achievement triggered by taking Milluki Zoldyck’s mechanical cockroach opens the quest chain Ella’s Suffering Holy Infant. Bai Zhu links the achievement to the Creation Society, its suspicious pregnant visitors, and the Zoldycks’ investigation of the organization 1 2.

Although he initially plans to leave Sankara Town and take the Hunter Exam to see the wider world, the mystery surrounding Ella and the church draws him into a long conflict with the Creation Society 2.

Personality

Bai Zhu is survival-conscious, opportunistic, and intensely motivated by system rewards. He routinely weighs risks against possible Achievement Points, but he is not passive: when he sees a useful opening, he manipulates people, bluffs authority, or provokes enemies into exposing themselves 1 6 15.

He uses shameless humor as both entertainment and strategy. His insults toward Milluki, inappropriate remarks toward Illumi, dramatic attack names, and insistence on theatrical “protagonist” moments often destabilize opponents or conceal his own fear 3 18 49.

Beneath his self-preserving attitude, Bai Zhu repeatedly chooses to protect vulnerable people. He shields Ella from Pige Aaron, intercepts the bishop’s attack meant for her, risks himself to save Number Nineteen, and refuses to abandon Ella even while exhausted and outmatched 8 24 30 46.

His concern does not make him conventionally gentle. Bai Zhu can be casually cruel to enemies, such as gagging Pige Aaron with his own socks after restraining him, and he often treats deception as a game 9 10.

Bai Zhu’s pursuit of the Creation Society achievement brings him into contact with Milluki and Illumi Zoldyck. After noticing that the church’s children possess unnaturally similar Nen, he leverages the discovery to force Illumi into a temporary alliance 1 3.

He follows the trail to Ella and Pige Aaron’s farmhouse, infiltrates it as a stranded traveler, provokes Aaron into combat, and defeats him almost instantly with Bakudō #4: Hainawa 6 8 9.

Creation Society Church Raid

With Milluki providing surveillance support and Illumi infiltrating in Ella’s identity, Bai Zhu enters the church disguised as a believer. He sabotages its infrastructure, fights the silver-robed bishop, and creates surface-level chaos to draw out the organization’s forces 15 18 19.

During the Holy Advent Ritual crisis, he protects Ella from the bishop, draws Hadō #33: Sōkatsui, and destroys a Black Crystal Fragment despite the severe drain on his Reiatsu 24 25. He later receives the third-stage achievement reward after the ritual is stopped or delayed 32.

Holy Knight Hunt and Prisoner Rescue

Still injured, Bai Zhu acts as bait to draw Holy Knights away from Milluki’s command center. He survives coordinated pursuit with Milluki’s dangerous Exploding Beetles and later fights alongside Milluki’s Mechanical Bee and Earthworm swarms 35 37 39 40.

After encountering the woman in white, Bai Zhu invests almost all of his remaining Achievement Points in Body Enhancement. He then attacks a prisoner convoy, frees Number Nineteen, and attempts to rescue the other pregnant captives 43 44.

The woman in white murders the remaining prisoners when they cannot be recovered. Bai Zhu suppresses his anger, carries Number Nineteen to safety, and escapes in Milluki’s modified vehicle 46.

Minazuki and the Final Church Assault

With Ella’s ritual nearing completion, Bai Zhu activates his Random Bankai Trial Ticket and draws Minazuki. The temporary power lets him break through Holy Knight formations without killing them and reach the church entrance before the ten-minute limit expires 49.

He releases Minazuki outside the church, dismantles Black Crystal defenses, restrains Holy Knights and ritualized children without killing them, and enters the church with Milluki to reach Ella and the trapped Illumi 50.
