"It wasn't a total waste." Bai Zhu shook nonexistent blood from his hand and returned his Zanpakuto to his system inventory. "At least we know what that Experimental Subject is."
Milluki was still staring at the pitch-black hole. He turned, looking thoroughly constipated. "You've got some nerve saying that! We spent half the night catching a lump of crap, and the real target got away. You call that progress?"
"Know your enemy and know yourself, and you'll never lose." Bai Zhu tossed out the line, but his mind was racing.
A Paper Person with no thickness who could slip into any crack. It was the perfect ability for hiding or escaping. No wonder he and Milluki had lost the trail back in the villa district.
It would have been a first-rate assassination ability, yet the Creation Society had turned him into a seed dispenser.
What a waste.
Hisoka had already lost interest. He idly played with a Playing Card and tipped his chin toward the stairs.
"Next stop, hmm?"
He licked his lips, that sick excitement rekindling in his eyes. "I marked quite a few. We can visit them one by one. Maybe we'll run into another 'Paper Person.'"
"Let's go."
Bai Zhu wasted no words and led the way downstairs.
No one was getting any sleep that night.
With Hisoka, a freak who might as well have been a human radar, leading them, the three combed almost every corner of the Basha Islands.
Most of the infected people they found had ended up like the old man in Room 307: mindless Rotten Meat Monsters reeking of decay. Bai Zhu could not even be bothered to draw his blade. He usually blasted them apart with a highly compressed burst of Reiatsu, then burned what remained.
It was quick and clean.
