The city's tremors were biological electrical waves at an extremely high frequency. They ricocheted through the underground pipes, the water, and even the dust in the air, reaching every corner of the city.
Bai Zhu felt numbness creeping up from the soles of his feet into his calves. A fine buzzing filled his ears and made his head ache. He pressed a hand to his temple and tried to extend his senses, searching for the flow of Reiatsu around him.
No good. The once-clear distribution of energy around him had dissolved into chaos.
Piercing "static" was everywhere. Living things, inanimate objects, even the movement of the air itself had blended together. He could no longer tell where the monsters were or where the civilians were. The resonance field was like a fistful of chaff scattered across a radar screen. His senses were impaired in every direction.
Milluki plopped down on the ground and set his terminal on his knees.
"Those bastards are using the Hive to jam every frequency." His hands blurred over the keyboard, the flesh of his round face quivering with excitement.
"They think they can lock down the whole map with my family's tech? Did they really think I wouldn't recognize it just because they scrubbed the production numbers?" Red warning windows piled up on the screen. Each shrill alarm was cut short by lines of green low-level code.
Milluki bypassed the system's surface logic and followed its highest-frequency guidance signal, forcing a channel open through the network.
The progress bar shot to full.
"Got you." Milluki slammed the Enter key.
The terminal screen flickered twice, then displayed an encrypted tiered menu. A line of bold black text sat at the top.
[Future Technology · Biological Engineering Center]
"Future Technology?" Milluki read the name aloud.
