Appearance

- Black hair worn in a low ponytail. 21
- Usually appears in ANBU gear and a mask during covert duties. 21 38
- Possesses scarlet Sharingan eyes, later evolving them into Mangekyō Sharingan. 57
Personality
Itachi initially presents himself as calm, observant, and ideologically committed to preventing conflict between Konoha and the Uchiha. He judges Shu as violent, arrogant, and extremist, and regards Shisui as the best candidate to stabilize the clan. 22 39 42
His political certainty deteriorates as the Uchiha pursue independence through the Daimyō’s Court. Interpreting Shisui’s new position and the clan’s withdrawal from Konoha as betrayal, Itachi directs his resentment toward Shu and becomes willing to murder Kurenai to lure Shu into an assassination trap. 46 48 49
After his defeat, Itachi recognizes that his hostility toward Shu was rooted not only in ideology, but in jealousy of Shu’s talent, strength, popularity, and influence over people close to him. 51 His strongest remaining attachment is Sasuke: when Shu threatens Sasuke, Itachi immediately identifies Danzō as the architect of the assassination plot. 51
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan
Itachi possessed a Three-Tomoe Sharingan before awakening the Mangekyō. His eyes support his combat perception and are central to his status as a skilled Uchiha shinobi. 57
- Recognized Shu’s Mangekyō Sharingan, Susanoo, immense chakra, and space-time ocular technique as threats beyond his ability to confront directly. 47 48
- His Mangekyō awakening is triggered by Fugaku’s suicide. 57
Sukunahikona
Itachi’s Mangekyō technique manifests after Fugaku dies to spare him. 57
- Left eye — absorbs and restores injuries affecting Itachi himself. 57
- Right eye — transfers absorbed injuries to another target. 57
- Immediately restores Itachi’s crushed limbs. 57
- Cannot revive the dead; the technique fails to affect Fugaku after his death. 57
Ninjutsu, Weapons, and Sealing

- Launches large barrages of shuriken and uses Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique. 49
- Employs an Earth Style ambush during his battle with Shu. 49
- Uses Body Flicker to attack Shu at high speed, though Shu reacts first. 50 51

Background & History
ANBU and Root Involvement
Itachi graduated from the Academy at age seven after using Shadow Clones to attend classes, then joined the ANBU. Hiruzen initially regarded him as a possible bridge between the Uchiha and Konoha. 15 23
Following Fugaku’s defeat by Shu, Itachi reported on the clan’s instability to Danzō and described Shu as violent-tempered, arrogant, and extreme. Danzō subsequently tasked him with tracking Shu and offered Root support for eliminating him. 39 42
Break with Shisui and the Uchiha
Itachi supported Shisui’s candidacy for clan head, but Shisui’s plan to move part of the Uchiha into the Daimyō’s political structure shattered their shared vision of reconciliation with Konoha. Itachi blamed Shu for influencing Shisui and developed intense killing intent toward him. 42 46
He allied with a tiger-masked Uchiha claiming space-warping abilities to assassinate Shu. Their plan used the genjutsu-controlled Kurenai as bait, with the masked man promised Shu’s Mangekyō eyes in return for assisting. 48
Failed Assassination
Itachi attacked Shu with the masked man and attempted to exploit Shu’s presumed weaknesses through coordinated attacks, venomous insects, hostage tactics, and sealing traps. Shu neutralized every attempt, broke Itachi’s limbs, and forced him to identify Danzō as the one behind the operation. 49 50 51
After Root operatives attacked, Itachi’s confession and Kurenai’s testimony helped expose Danzō’s crimes before Konoha’s leadership. 54
Clan Judgment and Fugaku’s Death
The Uchiha clan later judged Itachi for murdering fellow clansmen and attempting to assassinate Shu. Though Shu initially proposed sparing him, Fugaku accepted responsibility for raising and pressuring Itachi, offering his own life to uphold clan law. 55 57
Fugaku’s suicide awakened Itachi’s Mangekyō Sharingan and Sukunahikona. The clan nevertheless continued to regard Itachi as a traitor, while Mikoto held him responsible for Fugaku’s death. 57 58
Relationships
- Uchiha Shu — Fellow clansman, rival, and attempted assassination target. Itachi’s resentment toward Shu is ultimately revealed to be deeply tied to jealousy; Shu defeats and humiliates him. 46 51
- Uchiha Shisui — Former close friend who shares Itachi’s earlier hope for Uchiha–Konoha reconciliation. Their relationship fractures when Shisui adopts the Daimyō alliance and refuses Itachi’s request for death. 46 56
- Uchiha Sasuke — Younger brother and Itachi’s greatest emotional vulnerability. Itachi exposes Danzō’s involvement when Shu threatens Sasuke’s safety. 51
- Uchiha Fugaku — Father. Fugaku sacrifices his life to spare Itachi from execution, directly triggering Itachi’s Mangekyō awakening. 57
- Uchiha Mikoto — Mother. She initially defends Itachi but slaps him after Fugaku’s death and leaves carrying Fugaku’s body. 55 57
- Shimura Danzō — Root leader who recruits Itachi against Shu and provides Root support for the assassination attempt. Itachi later betrays him under pressure. 39 51
- Tiger-Masked Man — Temporary ally in the plot against Shu. The two cooperate out of mutual interest, but the masked man abandons Itachi once Shu proves too dangerous. 48 50
- Kurenai Yūhi — Chosen as bait because she is one of Shu’s few close associates. Itachi intends to kill her to force Shu into the trap. 48 49
