Background & History

Xiu was raised by Uchiha Hazuki, whom he calls “Aunt Hazuki” and treats as a mother figure, alongside Uchiha Izumi, who considers herself his older sister. Even as a child, he possessed unusual items and abilities that Hazuki recognized as extraordinary. His knowledge of future events makes him distrustful of the Uchiha leadership and determined to prepare for the approaching clan crisis. 9 12

After receiving Shisui’s Transcription Seal, Xiu shifts from merely intending to preserve Hazuki and Izumi to considering intervention on behalf of more Uchiha. He equips Hazuki with the Twin Masks, gives Izumi the Healing Pacifier, and implants a Kamui-based fatal-attack safeguard into Izumi’s eyes. 9 11 12

At age six, Xiu graduates early from the Ninja Academy after defeating Kurenai Yuhi in a Genjutsu-based examination. Though Kurenai is assigned as his squad leader alongside Hazuki and Izumi, she later yields the team’s decision-making authority to him after recognizing the disparity in their strength. 16 18 21 22

During the team’s first C-rank escort and modeling mission to the Land of Iron, Xiu kills Kakuzu after testing his own regenerative body against the latter’s attacks. Xiu’s conflict with Uchiha Fugaku escalates when Fugaku attempts to compel him to attend clan meetings. Xiu defeats and humiliates the clan head, then later backs Shisui’s candidacy for clan head. After Itachi and a tiger-masked man lure him into an ambush through a Genjutsu-controlled Kurenai, Xiu defeats Itachi and exposes Danzō as the source of the assassination order. Xiu later uses Impure World Reincarnation to revive Nohara Rin, initially intending to use her existence against Obito. Rin becomes part of his household, while his relationships with Izumi and Rin gradually become emotionally complicated. 60 61 64 66

Personality

Xiu is arrogant, sharp-tongued, and intensely independent. He rejects authority based on rank, clan status, or tradition, responding far better to sincere requests than to commands. He considers most rules negotiable and measures people largely by whether they respect him and those under his protection. 24 33 41

His arrogance is supported by genuine ability, but he is not simply reckless. Xiu prefers to pressure opponents into breaking first, then crush them after they have exposed their weaknesses. His ideal revenge is not a quick death but the destruction of an enemy’s wealth, relationships, ambitions, reputation, and sense of self. 24 30

Despite this cruelty, Xiu is consistently protective of people he recognizes as his own. He takes the most dangerous position during missions, scouts with Shadow Clones, supplies Hazuki and Izumi with life-saving items, and shields Kurenai even while insulting her. 11 12 33 50

Wealth changes his lifestyle dramatically. After taking Kakuzu’s fortune, he embraces the comforts of his hot-spring inn, gambling machines, fine food, billiards, and financial independence, while still directing much of his wealth toward Hazuki’s security. 30 40
