Background / History

Sasuke is Fugaku Uchiha's younger son and Itachi's younger brother. Before entering the Academy, he had already received training in basic taijutsu and shuriken techniques due to his position within the clan. 3

His hostility toward Uchiha Shu began when Itachi, through Shisui, attempted to introduce the two boys as potential friends. Shu ignored them and shut the door in front of Sasuke and Itachi, a humiliation Sasuke never forgot. 2

At the Academy, Sasuke's pride was severely shaken when Shu revealed a Three-Tomoe Sharingan at the same age. Sasuke challenged him to a spar and accepted a wager requiring the Uchiha clan to provide Shu with Sharingan-related techniques if Sasuke lost. 3 He was decisively defeated in taijutsu, shurikenjutsu, ninjutsu, and genjutsu despite using a wire-guided shuriken trap and the Great Fireball Technique. 3 4 Though left in tears, he remained determined to honor the wager. 5

After Shu injured Fugaku, Sasuke challenged him again. His fury awakened his One-Tomoe Sharingan, but Shu defeated him once more and coerced him into calling him “Dad” under threat of death. 37

Fugaku's later suicide and Itachi's failed attempt to assassinate Shu further damaged Sasuke's family. Sasuke confronted Shu with a kunai after awakening his Two-Tomoe Sharingan, blaming him for the family's collapse; Shu rejected the accusation and warned Sasuke not to return until his eyes could rival Shu's. 58 60

Years later, Sasuke was assigned to Team 7 under Shu. Although he still dislikes and distrusts Shu, he recognizes Shu as the strongest Uchiha and seeks to become his formal disciple in order to restore his family’s standing and eventually surpass Itachi. 70 71 72 73

Personality

Sasuke is proud, competitive, and highly sensitive to insults against his family and Uchiha identity. Shu repeatedly exploits these traits, provoking Sasuke into unfavorable wagers, reckless attacks, and emotional outbursts. 3 4 37

Despite his volatility, Sasuke values honor. After losing their first duel, he accepts responsibility for the wager rather than refusing it outright. 5 He can also think tactically when pressured: after realizing direct attacks could not overcome Shu, he combined smoke, steel wire, shuriken, and Fire Release into a coordinated trap. 4

Later trauma makes him more calculating. He sets aside some of his pride to pursue Shu’s instruction, viewing discipleship as the most practical route to power, recognition, and eventual revenge against Itachi. 71 72
