Background / History
Shisui served under Uchiha Shu’s father after graduating as a ninja. When Shu’s father died covering his team’s retreat and Shu’s mother later died from illness, Shisui felt responsible for their orphaned son and visited him every few days. 1
By the time Shu turned six, Shisui had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan and disclosed his Kotoamatsukami to the Third Hokage. He initially trusted Hiruzen and believed the Hokage’s views differed fundamentally from Danzō’s, but Shu’s warnings forced him to consider that revealing his ocular ability had made him a target. 1 6 7
Personality
Shisui is kind, conscientious, and strongly inclined to shoulder responsibility for others. His care for Shu originates in a sense of duty to his former captain, while his concern for the Uchiha stems from genuine compassion rather than personal ambition. 1 8
He initially approaches the Uchiha–Konoha conflict with idealism and faith in reconciliation. Repeated discussions with Shu expose his political inexperience, his underestimation of Danzō, and the danger of relying on goodwill alone. Rather than rejecting the criticism, Shisui accepts it with embarrassment and gradually becomes more pragmatic. 7 8
As clan head, he remains committed to peace but becomes willing to pursue structural change, external alliances, and even eventual separation from Konoha if coexistence proves impossible. 45 46
Appearance
Shisui is a young man with short, slightly curly hair. When activating his Mangekyō Sharingan, his eyes turn red with shuriken-shaped tomoe. 1
- Commonly presents a warm, approachable demeanor. 36
- His reputation as “Body Flicker Shisui” makes him one of the Uchiha clan’s most respected younger members. 8 36
Abilities & Skills
Mangekyō Sharingan
Shisui awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan before the events of Chapter 1. Unlike Shu’s Eternal Mangekyō, Shisui’s ocular power carries the usual danger of eventual blindness through overuse. 1 7
- His Mangekyō pattern resembles rotating shuriken. 1
- Possesses sufficient prestige and combat reputation to be regarded as the strongest of the Uchiha’s younger generation. 36
- Understands the destructive potential of Susanoo and recognizes it as the Sharingan’s “third power.” 36
Kotoamatsukami
Shisui’s signature Mangekyō technique can silently alter another person’s will. Its exposure to Hiruzen makes Shisui vulnerable to political exploitation and Danzō’s interest in taking his eyes. 1 7
- Revealed the technique to the Third Hokage out of trust. 1
- Later regrets exposing it and recognizes that its existence has placed him in a passive position. 7
- Hiruzen admits that he had considered using the ability himself. 32
Phantom Body Flicker
Shisui gives Shu a scroll containing his signature technique, Phantom Body Flicker, for Shu’s birthday. 8
- Creates a body resembling a Shadow Clone that can ignore attacks. 8
- Its evasion properties make it especially compatible with Shu’s intangibility. 8
Transcription Seal
Shisui transfers knowledge of the Transcription Seal directly to Shu through their Sharingan. 9
- Shu immediately masters the seal after receiving it. 9
- The seal can be used to store ocular power and trigger techniques under preset conditions, as demonstrated later by Shu. 12
Political Strategy
Though initially inexperienced, Shisui develops into an effective political organizer after adopting and adapting Shu’s advice. 7 45
- Negotiates directly with the Daimyo of the Land of Fire. 45
- Secures Uchiha access to the Imperial Guard Bureau, Guardian Shinobi positions, and the Daimyo’s military structure. 45 46
- Arranges his own appointment as Senior Vice Minister of War. 47
- Proposes splitting the clan between Konoha and a Court-based branch family for political protection. 46
Equipment / Items
- Phantom Body Flicker scroll — Given to Shu as a birthday present. 8
- Information on Rin Nohara’s burial site — Obtained for Shu’s plan involving Obito. 60
