Background

Law was afflicted with Amber Lead Syndrome, leaving him frail and near death on Minion Island. Rosinante sought the Op-Op Fruit to cure him, but Van consumed it first and promised to treat Law once they escaped. Law was carried through Minion Island by Rosinante, Drake, and Van while the Donquixote Family and Marines closed in. 2 3

During the escape, Law remained dependent on the group despite his worsening condition. He was particularly distressed when Rosinante was injured protecting him, but followed Van and Rosinante's deception of the Marines by pretending to be unconscious. 4 7

After reaching a cave on Swallow Island, Law entrusted his life to Van's operation. Van repeatedly separated, cleansed, and repaired Law's body with the Op-Op Fruit, removing the toxins from his organs, bones, and blood. The treatment completely cured his Amber Lead Disease. 10

Law chose not to contact Rosinante afterward, reasoning that Rosinante's position as a Marine lieutenant colonel and Sengoku's adopted son left him unable to act freely. He also recognized that, as a member of the D. family who resented the World Government, he could not ultimately side with the Marines. 10

When Van proposed leaving the North Blue, Law committed himself to following him in order to grow stronger and seek justice for White Town. During their separation, he reunited with Shachi, Penguin, and Bepo, acquired the cursed sword Kikoku, and continued traveling with Drake and Baby-5 until Van met them again at Wikoff Island. 11 27

Personality

Law is blunt, observant, and notably impatient with behavior he considers foolish. He mocked the Marine lieutenant during Van's escape and ordered Baby-5 to stop crying while the group hid from Doflamingo. 9

Despite his harshness, he is loyal to those he accepts as companions. He worried intensely about Rosinante, trusted Van with a frightening operation, and committed himself to remaining at Van's side for strength and justice. 7 10 11

Law approaches combat pragmatically. He rejects rigid sword schools, believing swordsmanship exists to defeat an opponent by the most efficient available method. 44
