Van recognizes Dory as the person who would later become “Red Flag” Drake, a Marine associated with the Worst Generation. Drake’s decision to remain with Van therefore becomes an early divergence from the expected course of his life. 2 3
Abilities & Skills
Ancient Zoan Physiology
Drake possesses the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Allosaurus, an Ancient Zoan Devil Fruit that gives him exceptional physical strength. 2
- His strength allows him to forcibly carry Rosinante during the escape from Vergo, despite Rosinante’s resistance. 4
- He is relied upon to carry Law and protect him while the group is pursued by Doflamingo and Vergo. 3 7
- Van considers his physical foundation strong enough to begin learning the Six Powers. 32
Physical Survival Skills
Drake regularly fills practical roles that keep the group alive while they are hiding or traveling.
- Keeps watch outside the Swallow Island cave while Van treats Law. 10
- Finds a water source and hunts a large wild boar for the group. 10
- Drives the speedboat used to mislead the Marines after the group escapes Swallow Island’s harbor. 9
- Helps organize the crew’s night watch and later directs the ship’s course toward the Goa Kingdom. 29 36
Planned Six Powers Training
Van identifies Drake as a suitable candidate for the Six Powers because of his physical ability, but no confirmed mastery is documented. 32
- Intended techniques include Soru, Tekkai, Kami-e, Geppo, Rankyaku, and Shigan. 8 32
- Van intends for Drake to use the techniques as both combat methods and extreme physical training. 32
Personality
Drake is loyal, protective, and level-headed under pressure. He follows Van despite fearing his new Devil Fruit power, protects Law during the Minion Island crisis, and remains beside Van when exhaustion leaves him vulnerable during Vergo’s pursuit. 2 3 5
He is also practical enough to question unsustainable plans. While hiding on Swallow Island, he points out that remaining concealed indefinitely is impossible and helps prompt Van’s decision to leave the North Blue. 11
Despite his affection for Van and the crew, Drake holds a longstanding desire to become a Marine. He believes Marines should uphold justice, but struggles with the possibility that this duty may one day put him against the people he considers companions. 36
Story Role
Minion Island Escape
Drake joins Van, Rosinante, and Law after the Barrels Pirates collapse. He carries Law during the escape, prepares to flee on Van’s orders, and later physically removes Rosinante from Vergo’s pursuit so Van can delay the enemy alone. 2 3 4
During the battle aboard the Marine surveillance ship, he supports the exhausted Van, carries him when necessary, and remains responsible for Law’s safety while Doflamingo attacks. 5 7
Swallow Island and Separation
After the group reaches Swallow Island, Drake serves as lookout, hunter, and provider while Van cures Law’s Amber Lead Disease. 10
When Van chooses to travel alone and draw attention away from the others, Drake accepts responsibility for Law and Baby-5. He later gathers trusted companions, secures a ship, and leads the separate group toward Wikoff Island. 11 13
Reunion and Germa Alliance
Drake reunites with Van at Wikoff Island alongside Law, Baby-5, Shachi, Penguin, Bepo, and Baiyan. He helps maintain the growing crew, reports information, assists with watches, and travels with the group to Germa. 27 29 31
At Germa, Van selects Drake for Six Powers training and expects him to strengthen his physical foundation during their stay. 32
Marine Ambition
Drake finally tells Van that he wants to join the Marines. Rather than oppose him, Van directs him to Foosha Village and advises him to seek Garp as a mentor, believing Garp’s support can prevent Barrels’ crimes from defining Drake’s future. 36
After reaching Foosha Village, Drake successfully gains Garp’s acceptance and moves onto Garp’s warship bound for Marine Headquarters. His departure concludes his role as one of the Fate Anchors of Van’s “Different Paths” event. 42
