Background
Qiangbalu served as his town's sheriff when pirates attacked it. Though wounded by gunfire, he fought the invaders alone with an iron shovel until Van intervened, treated his wounds, and disabled the pirates with his Operation Room. Qiangbalu then prevented the pirates from escaping and organized the town's response. 26
Viewing Van's aid as a debt that had to be repaid, Qiangbalu supplied Van's group with provisions and helped the townspeople purchase two captured pirate ships for five million Beli. He then knelt and requested permission to follow Van to sea. Van initially considered refusing, but accepted after losing contact with Drake and finding Qiangbalu useful in handling practical matters. 26 27
Appearance
Qiangbalu is a burly, middle-aged man standing over seven meters tall. His imposing build allows him to shield several people at once and makes him immediately intimidating to ordinary opponents. 26 30 32
- Massive, muscular physique.
- Initially fought with a huge iron shovel. 26
- Later wielded a blade nearly three meters long against the Lord of the Coast. 39
Personality
Qiangbalu is courageous, protective, and straightforward. He continued defending his town despite being injured and without the means to resist gunfire effectively. His first concern after Van incapacitated the pirates was preventing their escape and ensuring they could not retaliate against the townspeople. 26
He is deeply loyal to Van, whom he addresses as captain, and follows orders without hesitation. Van trusts him with guarding the ship, protecting Blue Moon and the younger crew members, supervising dangerous situations, and monitoring people Van considers suspicious. 27 36 37
Although dependable, Qiangbalu is not particularly sophisticated. Van identifies him as naturally gifted but previously limited to brute strength, and he makes a counting error during the crew's money-counting contest despite using a sensible denomination-sorting method. 29 32
