Appearance
Sakazuki is an exceptionally tall man with a sharply chiseled face and an inherently severe, brutal presence. He wears a Marine vice admiral’s Justice cloak over a dark-red floral shirt and commonly keeps a cigar in his mouth. 43
- Tall, imposing build.
- Stern facial features and a cold, scrutinizing gaze.
- Justice cloak bearing the Marine insignia.
- Dark-red floral shirt beneath his uniform cloak.
- Usually seen smoking a cigar. 43
Personality
Sakazuki follows Absolute Justice, believing that evil must be eradicated completely and that hesitation toward it is itself a betrayal of justice. This doctrine makes his ship rigidly disciplined, emotionally cold, and exceptionally dangerous for its personnel. 41 43
He displays open contempt for weakness, particularly toward Rosinante’s clumsiness and fear. When confronted with the destruction of civilians alongside pirates, he dismisses the recruits’ horror and maintains that evil deserves no mercy. 43 44
Despite his severity, Sakazuki is observant and results-oriented. He immediately recognizes the implausibility of Rayne’s claim that Blood Axe Barton’s officers killed one another, but declines to pursue the matter because the pirate crew was eliminated. 48 49
Abilities & Skills
Magma-Based Attack
Sakazuki can coat his arm in magma and launch a gigantic magma fist over extreme range.
- Struck the Broken Finger Pirates’ ship from nearly a kilometer away. 44
- Completely destroyed the vessel, killing the pirates and the kidnapped civilians aboard. 44
- Generated heat intense enough for Rayne to sense it as a catastrophic threat before the attack landed. 44
Command and Military Operations
Sakazuki commands a warship that specializes in high-risk suppression operations in the first half of the Grand Line. 41 43
- Orders total elimination rather than capture when confronting pirate forces. 43 45
- Assigned Lieutenant Colonel Dal and thirty soldiers to assault the Blood Axe Pirates’ fortress. 45
- Sent Rayne and Rosinante into frontline operations to expose them to combat. 45
- Redirected his fleet to the Misty Archipelago after receiving a distress signal from the Seagull 3. 49
- Ordered Dal to lead a reconnaissance speedboat into the archipelago because the main warship was too large and vulnerable for its waters. 49
Relationships
- Corvo Rayne — A recruit who voluntarily chose Sakazuki’s internship fleet. Sakazuki recognizes Rayne’s unusual composure and later becomes suspicious of his role in the Blood Axe Pirates’ destruction, though he prioritizes the successful result over an investigation. 43 48 49
- Rosinante — A recruit assigned to Sakazuki by Sengoku for harsher training. Sakazuki openly disdains Rosinante’s weakness and treats him as insignificant aboard the warship. 43
- Lieutenant Colonel Dal — A subordinate entrusted with landing operations, pirate-fortress assaults, and reconnaissance missions. 45 49
- Zephyr — Chief instructor who warned recruits that Sakazuki’s fleet had the highest casualty rate and only approved Rayne’s request after testing his resolve. 41
- Sengoku — Sent Rosinante to Sakazuki’s warship to receive more iron-blooded training. 43
Story Role / Major Arcs
Elite Training Camp Internship Selection
Sakazuki is introduced as one of six vice admirals available for the Elite Training Camp’s final internship. Zephyr identifies his fleet as the most combat-heavy and lethal assignment, with a record of the highest casualties among the available warships. Rayne becomes the sole recruit to choose him. 41
Broken Finger Pirates Incident
Upon Rayne and Rosinante boarding his ship, Sakazuki establishes Absolute Justice as its sole governing principle. When the Broken Finger Pirates attack, he destroys their ship with a long-range magma strike rather than permitting a boarding action, killing both the pirates and their captive civilians. 43 44
Blood Axe Pirates Assault
Sakazuki authorizes a nighttime extermination raid against the Blood Axe Pirates after confirming that their fortress island contains no civilians. He orders the landing force to eliminate every pirate and personally includes Rayne and Rosinante in the breach operation. 45
After the battle, he sees through the report claiming that Barton and his officers died through infighting. He does not expose Rayne, judging the pirate crew’s destruction to be the only outcome that matters. 48 49
Misty Archipelago Reconnaissance
After the Seagull 3 sends a fragmented distress signal mentioning a “ghost ship” and “spider,” Sakazuki immediately changes course toward the Misty Archipelago. He dispatches Dal, Rayne, Rosinante, and selected elites aboard a reconnaissance speedboat to investigate the missing gunboat and locate Great Whirlpool Spider Squard. 49 50
