Background

Six thousand years before the main story, the Seventy-Two Demon God Pillars descended upon the Holy Demon Continent. Their aura transformed humans, magical beasts, and other native creatures into the populations collectively known as the Demon Race. Long Haochen later argues that much of the race therefore shares ancestry with the continent’s original inhabitants rather than being wholly separate from humanity 67 167.

The first Demon God Emperor was remembered as both an artifact spirit of a Demon God Pillar and a member of the Dragon Race. Under the early Demon God Emperors, the Demon Race conquered most of the continent and came close to exterminating humanity 2 6.

The second Demon God Emperor discovered that total extermination would cause mass starvation: demons could fight but could not reliably sustain agriculture, livestock, or manufacturing. He ordered that humanity must never be completely destroyed, establishing a policy that later emperors inherited 6.

Feng Xiu returned to the past after witnessing the Demon Race’s eventual decline and Heart City’s recapture by humanity. He resolved to prevent that future by reforming demon society, solving its food crisis, and pursuing eventual human-demon integration rather than endless conquest 5 12.

Government and Territory

The Demon Race is ruled through a rigid imperial hierarchy centered on the Demon God Emperor.

• Demon God Emperor — Holds supreme authority over the race. Feng Xiu’s status is reinforced by the absolute obedience of the Black Dragon Guard, the Heaven-defying Demon Dragon Clan, and the Demon Gods 5.
• Seventy-Two Demon Gods — The race’s highest-ranking supernatural rulers, each associated with a Demon God Pillar. Their rank determines their status, influence, and often their military resources 117 178.
• Demon God Pillars — Sources of power for the Demon Gods. Pure-blooded Demon Gods are heavily dependent on them, while Human-Demon Hybrids can retain diminished strength even if their pillars are destroyed 131.
• Twenty-four provinces — The Demon Race’s territory is divided into twenty-four provinces; Central Province is the largest and contains the capital 5 6.
• Demon Capital Heart City — The largest city on the continent. The Demon Emperor Palace stands at its center, while the Moon, Star, Necromancer, and Hell Demon Gods maintain palaces at its corners 5.

Low-ranking demon races	Often descended from animals corrupted by Demon God Pillars. Feng Xiu considers many of these groups too inhuman to include in his integration plan 67.

Society and Economy

The Demon Race’s greatest structural weakness is its inability to maintain production.

• Demons are naturally powerful combatants, but they struggle with farming, toolmaking, and other productive work 6.
• Dark attributes make agriculture and other life difficult to sustain in much of their territory 6.
• The Temple Alliance, despite holding less territory and having a smaller population, produces at least ten times as much food as the Demon Race 6.
• Demon territory relies on human farmers, livestock keepers, craftsmen, cooks, border trade, and merchant guilds to survive 6.
• Food shortages can cause provincial unrest and have repeatedly shaped Demon Race military decisions 6 111.

Andu Province was especially important because fishing supplied approximately forty percent of the Demon Race’s annual grain supply. When fish vanished from its coast, Feng Xiu considered war only as a desperate response to the worsening food crisis 111.

Military

Demon Gods and Clan Armies

The Demon Gods are the race’s principal high-level military assets.

• Demon Gods ranked within the top thirty-six may maintain direct clan armies 117.
• Those ranked in the top sixty are generally Ninth Tier or stronger, while lower-ranked Demon Gods are typically peak Eighth Tier 118.
• Demon God Transformation allows a Demon God to draw power from their pillar; its effects vary depending on the pillar 178.
• Feng Xiu is regarded as the strongest Demon God Emperor in the race’s history, possessing one million spiritual power, a demigod body, the Golden Dragon Spear, and the Destruction Godhead 97.

Demon Eliminators

The Demon Eliminators were established to hunt the Temple Alliance’s Demon Hunt Squads. Feng Xiu himself formerly served among them, and A Bao later became one of their leading figures 114.

Story Role

The Demon Race initially functions as humanity’s traditional enemy, with Demon Hunt Squads sent into its territory to kill demon soldiers and Demon Eliminators organized to destroy those squads 65 114.

Its portrayal becomes increasingly complex through Long Haochen’s upbringing in Demon territory, his family ties to Feng Xiu, and the revelation that many demons and hybrids are native descendants of the Holy Demon Continent rather than irredeemable outsiders 67 167.

Internal division is a recurring weakness. A Bao and several Demon Gods oppose Feng Xiu’s reforms, while Human-Demon Hybrid heirs such as Gu Changfeng represent the integration faction 149 167.

During the Abyss Plane invasion, the Demon Race repels multiple abyssal kings in Narik Province and agrees to a coordinated front-and-rear assault with the Temple Alliance 206 207. After the Abyss Plane collapses and famine ends, popular support grows for Long Haochen and Feng Xiu’s proposed peaceful unification of the continent 208.
