As soon as the words left her mouth, Lin Wan'er began calculating the average lifespan of soul masters. A possibility flashed through her mind, and she abruptly rose from her seat.
"So that means they're not dead yet!?"
Her voice was filled with shock and delight, making the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, who was eating heartily beside her, glance over. Fox Consort's alluring upturned eyes were full of confusion; clearly, she did not understand what the Holy Maiden was so surprised about.
"Cough, cough! Sorry, I got a little excited just now."
Lin Wan'er waved to signal for the Three-Eyed Golden Lion to carry on, then sank back into thought.
Although she had already considered abandoning the Home-Stealing Plan after being born in the Star Dou Great Forest and encountering the Ferocious Beasts, that decision had merely been a reluctant one based on her analysis of the timeline.
In truth, she very much wanted to raid Tang God King's home.
Unfortunately, the dead could not be brought back to life. Even Soraka, a God-level Martial Soul, possessed no authority related to resurrection.
Therefore, the Tang Sect's four great affiliated clans—the Strength Clan, Speed Clan, Breaking Clan, and Defense Clan—had most likely already vanished without a trace by the time of the Unrivaled era.
This could be seen from the fact that when Tang Ya dejectedly explained the Tang Sect's decline to Huo Gua, she had never once mentioned the four great affiliated clans that had once flourished.
Otherwise, Tang Ya, as the current sect master of the Tang Sect, would not have fallen so low that she needed to rely on Shrek Academy, without even managing to secure the status of an Inner Courtyard disciple.
But now, Fox Consort had personally said that it had only been a little over a hundred years since Tang God King had taken his delicate little wife, Xiao Wu, away.
Then did that mean the four great affiliated clans, which had yet to meet their destruction, and even Bai Chenxiang, the wife of Ma Hongjun among the Seven Monsters, had not yet died with their hearts full of resentment and dissatisfaction toward Tang God King? It had to be said that Bai Chenxiang, as a member of the Speed Clan, granddaughter of clan leader Bai He, and Ma Hongjun's lover—
Her personality and every other aspect suited Lin Wan'er's tastes quite well. She was one of the more successful and normal pairings in the original work.
But unfortunately, Bai Chenxiang had ultimately been unable to accompany Ma Hongjun to the God Realm when he became a god.
The reason was that Ma Hongjun had failed his Level One God assessment and somehow ended up becoming the Level Two Phoenix God instead.
When Lin Wan'er had first read that part, she had once believed it was because Ma Hongjun had not worked hard enough in his daily life, leaving him with an insufficient foundation and forcing him to be separated from his wife by life and death.
But after countless readers continued theorizing and digging deeper, they arrived at a conspiracy theory centered on Tang God King.
Tang God King could not tolerate teammates who had followed behind him becoming Level One Gods and enjoying the same status and treatment as him. So, he secretly interfered, causing Ma Hongjun to fail the Fire God's Level One God trial and settle instead for the Level Two God trial of the Phoenix God.
At that thought, disgust appeared on Lin Wan'er's face. "None of the Tang Sect's successive sect masters or Tang San were good people. Especially the Clear Sky Sect. If Bibi Dong hadn't been too much of a Love Brain and too obsessed with personal gain, perhaps tragedies like the later events of the Unrivaled era would never have happened."
With the Home-Stealing Plan already taking shape in her mind, Lin Wan'er knew when to stop. Her expression changed as swiftly as a Sichuan opera mask, and she considered how her current strength was still nowhere near enough to serve as a snack for Bai Chenxiang and the affiliated clans.
So, she turned her gaze toward Di Tian, whose face might be cold but whose heart was not.
Under Lin Wan'er's eager gaze, Di Tian felt a chill run through him unlike anything he had ever experienced. His puzzled golden eyes swept toward the Holy Maiden, who was smiling like a flower. The voice that emerged from his throat remained fairly polite. "What does the Holy Maiden require? Why are you looking at me like that?"
Still unaware that Lin Wan'er had set her sights on him, Di Tian looked a little awkward. Ever since taking on his heavy responsibilities, he had rarely dealt with hatchlings he could crush with a single finger.
Especially when the hatchling before him was not some tough-skinned little boy, but a little girl who looked as if water would seep out with a pinch—one who could burst into tears and earn the sympathy and maternal instincts of Ferocious Beasts like Bi Ji.
"Grandpa Di Tian, I have an unreasonable request and would like your help. Can you agree to it?"
Lin Wan'er blinked. Considering that Di Tian was just a tiny bit over a hundred million years older than her, she decided not to call him directly by name and instead added a suffix for him.
On one hand, she wanted to close the distance between them. On the other, she was quite curious to see how Di Tian, who had never even been a father, would respond to her affectionate form of address.
"An unreasonable request? Holy Maiden, please speak freely. So long as it is within our power, we will certainly devote our utmost efforts to accomplishing it."
Di Tian, who possessed a clear sense of hierarchy and respected his lord, resembled an old butler. His wording was impeccable.
However, Lin Wan'er still caught the tenderness and helplessness that flickered within his golden eyes.
Seeing this, Lin Wan'er became even more determined to help the soul beasts and those unfortunate people escape Tang God King's schemes. Of course, the premise of helping them was that it had to benefit both herself and others. This was not some outbreak of saintly compassion where she saw everyone as pitiful and helped them without the slightest regard for herself. People like that were simply naive fools.
Oh, right. The kind of person she had just described definitely was not Xiao Wu, so please do not read too much into it.
"Holy Maiden?"
Having received no response, Di Tian called out to the Holy Maiden again, trying to get her to state the specifics so he could provide a clear answer.
"Sorry, Grandpa Di Tian. I was just thinking about how to explain the pros and cons of this matter to you simply."
After taking several more steps forward, Lin Wan'er realized that she needed to tilt her head up to look at Di Tian. For the first time, she truly understood that hilarious saying: Be careful, or I'll jump up and punch you in the knee.
"Grandpa Di Tian, could you bend down a little? It's too tiring talking to you while looking up like this."
The Beast God nearly failed to keep his expression under control. Half amused and half exasperated, he lowered his head and seriously listened as the little adult Holy Maiden explained her somewhat immature, possibly useful plan.
After carefully listening to the plan Lin Wan'er laid out in full, Di Tian appeared quite surprised. He had not expected that less than a day after arriving in the Star Dou Great Forest, the Holy Maiden would learn of the current state of the human continent's sects from Fox Consort and already devise a plan against Tang San.
The several Ferocious Beasts knew about both the four great affiliated clans of the newly risen Tang Sect, which had gradually become marginalized and begun idling away their days after losing their purpose, as well as Bai Chenxiang, who had not been brought to the God Realm.
But their views on matters of the continent and soul masters were not as complicated as Lin Wan'er imagined.
Because in the eyes of Di Tian, the Beast God, it was only natural for soul beasts to look down on soul masters and soul masters to look down on soul beasts. The two races simply had no way of coexisting.
If you did not believe it, just look at the Blue Silver Emperor and the Soft Bone Rabbit. Though they were the older party, had they not still been toyed with by male soul masters only a few decades old?
They seemed deeply loving in ordinary times and were praised as role models for their generation.
Yet when it came to critical matters concerning the shared survival and future of the soul beast race, not only were they unqualified to participate in the final decision-making discussions, they could not even whisper in their husbands' ears to improve soul masters' view of soul beasts as lowly food.
How tragic, lamentable, and infuriating!
I had quite a lot of fun writing this chapter. Readers who have seen the Divine Realm Legend comic definitely went wild over Ma Hongjun and Bai Chenxiang's tragic BE pairing, especially when the God of Desire tried to tempt Ma Hongjun. That image of his tears has stayed with me to this day.
Fundamentally, what I'm writing should not be much different from male-oriented, male-protagonist Douluo fanfiction. It's just a bit more delicate from a female protagonist's perspective, with a style that leans more neutral or softer.
But don't worry: this is a light, satisfying, no-CP story with a strong female lead. At most, she'll get close with Huo Gua, Wang Dong, and the others. If you have sincere suggestions that aren't about directing the whole story, I'll consider them as appropriate. Please don't wait for the chapters to pile up—comment and save it!
