Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pill Venom Art — theoretical method | 5 | Dugu Feng identifies the Poison Classic’s untested method of condensing poison within the dantian. It is considered dangerously unstable because uncontrolled poison would kill its user first. |
| Liquid Poison Pill | 6 | Dugu Feng compresses Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor Venom together with his accumulated toxins. Unlike Dugu Bo’s pre-existing solidified pill, Feng’s circulates through his meridians with Soul Power. |
| Poison-Attribute Soul Core — Dugu Bo | 7 | Dugu Bo destroys and rebuilds his solidified Poison Pill with Dugu Feng’s assistance, Nine Grade Purple Ganoderma, Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew, and Devouring Poison Gas. The completed core raises him from Rank 91 to Rank 93. |
| Stabilized Ice-Fire Poison Pill | 8 9 | The Eight-Petal Immortal Orchid stabilizes Feng’s Pill, while the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot add balanced Ultimate Ice and Ultimate Fire poison. Red-and-blue patterns form on the Pill. |
| Ice-Fire Poison Pill — external derivative | 36 37 | Feng condenses a temporary external pill using his internal poison as a buffer between ice and fire. Its detonation releases lethal Ice-Fire Poison over a wide area. |
| Poison-Attribute Soul Core — Dugu Feng | 41 | After absorbing the Thorn Dragon’s Soul Ring and reaching the Soul Saint realm, Feng refines his Poison Pill into a functioning Soul Core over four days, reaching level 75. |
Background / History
Dugu Feng first conceived the Poison Pill as a possible answer to the Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor venom harming Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan. Dugu Bo revealed that he already possessed a solidified poison pill, but its venom had fused too deeply with his body, Martial Soul, and Soul Power to be safely separated 4.
The Poison Classic described the Pill Venom Art as a theoretical practice: a cultivator would use their own body as a vessel and force numerous poisons to consume one another inside the dantian. Dugu Feng attempted it after using a strand of Dugu Bo’s origin venom to break through level 30, relying on Toad Style and the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum to survive the refinement 5.
He succeeded by combining Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor Venom with the toxins he had previously absorbed. The resulting Poison Pill was liquid rather than solid, allowing it to circulate with Soul Power and continuously “nourish poison with poison” 6.
Dugu Feng then adapted the method for Dugu Bo. Over six months, the two transformed Dugu Bo’s solidified Poison Pill into a true Poison-Attribute Soul Core, restoring his ability to rapidly recover Soul Power and raising his cultivation to Rank 93 7 8. Feng later completed the same transformation for himself after reaching the Soul Saint realm 41.
Manifestation
The Poison Pill resides in the user’s dantian and normally circulates invisibly through the meridians alongside Soul Power. Dugu Feng’s Pill is liquid, while Dugu Bo’s original version was solidified and unable to circulate properly 6.
- Dugu Feng’s stabilized Pill bears red and blue patterns representing Ultimate Fire Poison and Ultimate Ice Poison 9.
- Its ice-and-fire balance depends on poison serving as a buffer between the otherwise incompatible elemental forces 36.
- When condensed outside the body, it can become a small Ice-Fire Poison Pill that detonates after losing the stabilizing control of its wielder’s Soul Power 36.
Functions and Characteristics
Poison Refinement
The Pill Venom Art makes poison a cultivation resource rather than a source of backlash.
- It compresses and refines multiple toxins within the dantian instead of allowing harmful residue to remain scattered through the body 6.
- The Pill grows stronger by devouring rare and powerful poisons, following the principle of using poison to nourish poison 6.
- Dugu Feng’s Toxic Toad Martial Soul assists the process by converting absorbed venom into Soul Power and drawing poisonous components into the Pill 5 7.
- During Dugu Bo’s reconstruction, Devouring Poison Gas extracted poisonous Soul Power from his body; the purified energy strengthened Dugu Feng while the toxic portion fed his Pill Poison 7.
Ice-Fire Poison
After absorbing the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot, Dugu Feng incorporated extreme yin and yang properties into his Poison Pill.
- Ultimate Fire Poison burns the target from within.
- Ultimate Ice Poison freezes the body and Soul Power without obvious external signs.
- The two poisons can inflict simultaneous scorching heat and bone-piercing cold, leaving victims unable to live or die 8 37.
- The Pill must continue rotating to keep the opposing Ultimate Poisons stable 36.
Soul Core Conversion
A complete Poison-Attribute Soul Core is the advanced form of the Poison Pill.
- Formation requires both immense Soul Power and spiritual power; Dugu Feng could not complete it at Rank 37 despite having a stabilized Pill 8.
- Dugu Bo’s completed core rapidly absorbs external Soul Power and greatly improves his recovery in battle 8.
- Dugu Feng’s completed core similarly accelerates his recovery and cultivation, supporting his plan to form separate poison, fire, and ice Soul Cores in the future 41.
Ice-Fire Poison Pill
Dugu Feng can draw poison from his internal Pill to create a temporary, throwable Ice-Fire Poison Pill.
- The external pill uses poison as a stabilizing medium for Ultimate Ice and Ultimate Fire 36.
- Once detached from Dugu Feng’s Soul Power, it becomes unstable and may explode at any time 36.
- Its released poison can spread across several thousand meters; even the base toxins can rapidly kill ordinary Soul Kings and threaten Soul Emperors and Soul Saints 36.
- Creating one consumed roughly one-third of Dugu Feng’s Soul Power during his battle with Chrysanthemum Douluo 37.
Limitations and Risks
- The Pill Venom Art was originally considered a forbidden theoretical method because a damaged dantian could release its stored poison and kill the cultivator 5.
- A Poison Pill that solidifies cannot properly circulate through the meridians and may contribute to venom backlash, as seen with Dugu Bo’s original pill 4 6.
- Forming a Soul Core cannot be achieved through poison alone; sufficient Soul Power and spiritual power are indispensable 8.
- External Ice-Fire Poison Pills are unstable after leaving their creator’s control and demand substantial Soul Power to produce 36 37.
Known Bearers
- Dugu Feng — Creator of the liquid, circulating Poison Pill and the Pill Venom Art. He later refined it into a Poison-Attribute Soul Core supported by Ultimate Ice and Ultimate Fire 6 9 41.
- Dugu Bo — Possessed a solidified Poison Pill formed from the Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor venom. Under Feng’s guidance, he destroyed and rebuilt it as a Poison-Attribute Soul Core 4 6 7.
