With a single blow, Darkseid snapped Russell's neck. Sensing that something was off, he grew wary. It was too quiet. The Justice League members wore strange expressions, but there was no grief at the loss of a companion.

The sound of bones resetting rang out. Russell raised his hand and grabbed Darkseid's feet, preparing to swing him around, follow up with a wildly improvised slam, then mock the frail god.

Russell grumbled inwardly as Darkseid smashed him to the ground with an elbow strike, then lifted him by the throat.
"Monster with an Immortal Body, your strength is lacking, but your genes have some value. You would make excellent material for strengthening Parademons."
Darkseid stared coldly at Russell, tightened his five fingers, and snapped his neck again before tossing him toward the Boom Tube behind him.
The instant Russell's "corpse" was flung away, he suddenly raised his hand and wrapped it around Darkseid's arm. A series of joint locks clamped down on his arm, shoulder, and back. Russell clenched his right fist, extending the bone spikes along his knuckles, and drove it into Darkseid's eye socket.
The Infinity Gauntlet had already been put away. Doomsday's hands needed no protection; wearing the Infinity Gauntlet would only protect the enemy instead.
Darkseid was startled that Russell had attacked again without even taking time to regenerate. His reaction came a step too late, and Russell's heavy punch scraped across his cheek, the bone spikes cutting a bloody gash through even his tough skin.
