Gryffindor's flying lesson had been scheduled together with Slytherin's. After lunch break, they arrived at the lawn outside the castle.
All along the way, Vera could hear Harry muttering above her head about things like, "If Malfoy dares provoke us again this time, let me handle it."
Meanwhile, Hermione had been nervously murmuring all sorts of precautions for riding a broomstick.
Vera's ears were practically growing calluses from listening to them.
By the time they arrived, more than twenty flying brooms had already been neatly lined up on the grass, while students from Gryffindor and Slytherin stood around in small groups.
Even from a distance, Vera could hear Malfoy loudly bragging about his heroic feat of dodging a Muggle helicopter while riding a broom.
When he saw Harry pushing Vera over, he gave a disdainful snort and turned to walk farther away with his lackeys.
"That bastard..." Harry clenched her fists, veins standing out on the backs of her slender hands.
Seeing how annoyed she was, Vera could only gently take her hand to soothe her.
Even if they were going to teach that guy a lesson, they couldn't do it out in the open.
At the very least... they had to be a little discreet.
Vera narrowed her eyes as she looked at Malfoy in the distance.
Harry's Other Side
Madam Hooch, the flying instructor, arrived soon afterward. She had short gray-white hair and sharp yellow eyes, looking extremely capable.
Rather than immediately urging everyone to line up, she spotted Vera at once and hurried over.
"Miss Black." Madam Hooch crouched down until they were at eye level. "Professor Dumbledore has already explained your situation to me. Given the special nature of this class, you may pass the flying examination directly with an A.
"However, for your safety, you will need to observe from the side for the rest of the lessons. You won't need to participate in the practical exercises."
Vera nodded. "Thank you for your kindness, Professor... Let's do that."
Madam Hooch turned toward the other students and called for them to hurry up and get into position.
Harry and Hermione immediately gathered around Vera during the brief opening, looking at her with concern.
"Vera, will you be all right by yourself?" Harry crouched down, her green eyes full of worry. "Do you want us to push you over?"
Hermione hurriedly tugged at Harry's robes, telling her to stop talking.
"I'll be fine." Vera gently patted their hands. "Go to class. Don't keep Madam Hooch waiting."
Harry still wanted to say something, but Madam Hooch had already begun calling roll, so they reluctantly headed toward their brooms.
Vera wheeled herself to the edge of the field and quietly watched the lesson unfold.
In the original story, flying class had indeed been the beginning of Harry becoming a Seeker, but it wasn't much use to Vera.
For now, a wheelchair enchanted with a powerful Levitation Charm was already enough to meet her basic needs.
Learning to ride a flying broom ranked even lower on her list of priorities than becoming proficient with the Levitation Charm.
Even if she could stand again someday, she thought those things looked awfully uncomfortable.
At a time like this, it was better not to force herself.
Madam Hooch demonstrated how to summon a broom and the basic riding posture, then had the students begin practicing.
"Up!" Harry shouted at the broom on the ground, and it immediately leaped into her hand.
But only a few brooms were that obedient. Hermione's merely rolled over on the ground, while Neville's did not move at all.
Things went smoothly on Malfoy's side. His broom obediently jumped into his hand, and he smugly glanced at Vera from afar.
The provocation was obvious.
Vera had no reaction to such childish behavior, but Harry, standing directly across from Malfoy, silently took it all in.
Next, Madam Hooch spent quite some time demonstrating how to mount a broom without sliding off and correcting everyone's grip one by one.
"All right, when I blow my whistle, kick off with both legs and leave the ground. Kick hard," Madam Hooch said. "Hold your brooms firmly, rise a few feet, then lean forward slightly and come straight back down. Listen for my whistle—three—two—"
Before she could finish, Neville kicked off early out of nervousness, and his broom shot upward.
"Mr. Longbottom! Come back!" Madam Hooch shouted, but Neville's broom had already gone out of control. He could only scream in terror as it spun wildly through the air, ready to throw him off at any moment.
Vera frowned. She immediately drove her wheelchair forward and drew her wand. "Wingardium Leviosa!"
A stream of magic shot from the tip of her wand, precisely slowing Neville's fall.
At the same time, Madam Hooch quickly cast the Levitation Charm as well. The two magical forces supported the falling Neville together, lowering him slowly back to the ground.
Neville's face was deathly pale. His legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the grass, still clutching the out-of-control broom tightly in his hands.
"I... I'm going to be sick..." He weakly mimed vomiting.
Madam Hooch hurried over to check on him, then glared sternly at the class. "I am taking Mr. Longbottom to the hospital wing. While I am gone, no one is to fly without permission! Anyone who disobeys will be expelled!"
After she helped the trembling Neville away, Malfoy immediately burst out laughing. "Did you see that idiot Longbottom's face? He nearly wet himself!"
Harry glared angrily at Malfoy. "Shut up, Malfoy! Neville already feels awful enough!"
"Oh? Is the Girl-Who-Lived standing up for her new friend?" Malfoy sneered. Suddenly, he picked something up from the ground. "Look, it's that idiot's Remembrall!"
He held a transparent ball high in the air, red smoke swirling inside it.
"That was sent to Neville by his grandmother!" Harry snapped. "Give it back!"
Malfoy's gray eyes gleamed with malice. "Want it? Then come get it!"
With that, he jumped onto his broom and soared into the air.
Harry grabbed a broom without hesitation.
"No!" Hermione cried. "Madam Hooch told us not to touch them—you'll be expelled!"
Harry wasn't thinking that far ahead. She kicked off with both legs and was about to fly after him when Vera raised her voice from beside her. "Harry!"
Harry froze and turned toward Vera hesitantly.
Vera wheeled herself closer and lowered her voice. "Don't act rashly."
Malfoy circled in the air, smugly shaking the Remembrall. "What is it, Potter? Afraid to come up here? Or is your crippled friend holding you back?"
Anger flared in Harry's green eyes, and her knuckles turned white around the broom handle.
"Don't worry about me, Vera!" For the first time, she shouted at Vera so impatiently. "I'm going to teach that bastard a lesson today!"
Vera looked into Harry's furious green eyes and let out a soft sigh. "Then be careful."
Harry froze for a moment, then nodded forcefully and kicked off. Her broom immediately rose into the air.
Malfoy clearly hadn't expected Harry to really chase after him. He hurriedly turned his broom, intending to toy with the novice before him, but Harry's flying talent revealed itself at that very moment—
Her broom streaked across the sky like lightning, catching up to him in the blink of an eye.
Malfoy barely dodged her, his face going pale. "Are you insane? You'll be expelled!"
"Take care of yourself before that!" Harry shot upward sharply, closing in on him from below. With a beautiful sweep of her broom's tail, she forced him to give way.
The two chased and circled through the air, drawing startled cries from the students below.
Hermione covered her mouth, her face white as a sheet. "It's over, it's over... This is really over now..."
But Vera only tilted her head up, her gaze fixed on the two figures in the sky.
Such an aggressive pursuit was completely unlike the Harry she usually showed everyone.
Thinking back to the obvious guilt on Harry's face when Vera had asked whether she was good at fighting...
Vera narrowed her eyes thoughtfully.
Seeker
The chase in midair continued, and Malfoy had clearly been frightened by Harry's flying skills.
He frantically tried to shake her off, but Harry seemed glued to his tail, following him through every turn and dive.
"Is running away all you can do, Malfoy?" Harry mocked, smoothly sliding sideways to cut off his retreat.
Malfoy's face darkened. His gaze swept over Vera, who was calmly sitting in her wheelchair below and watching them, and a malicious smile suddenly appeared on his face. "Since you want this stupid ball so badly—catch!"
He tossed the Remembrall high into the air, then hurled it fiercely in Vera's direction!
"No!" Harry's expression changed. She let out a terrified scream and immediately turned her broom toward the ground in a dive.
Vera looked up at the Remembrall flying toward her, her pupils shrinking slightly. The magical circuits at her wand-holding fingertips instinctively glimmered.
However, she did not rush to dodge or intercept it with magic. Instead, she forced herself to stay calm and looked straight at the girl rushing desperately toward her.
Harry dived at incredible speed, her messy hair whipping wildly in the wind, her green eyes filled with fear.
She dived as though she did not care whether she lived or died. Just before the Remembrall could hit Vera, she thrust out her hand and caught it firmly in her palm. At the same time, her broom came to a sharp stop, barely halting in front of Vera.
"Are you all right?" Harry jumped off her broom and tightly gripped Vera's shoulders, her voice trembling from lingering fear. "That bastard actually... I thought I wasn't going to make it in time."
Vera gently shook her head, her gaze falling on the hand gripping the Remembrall. "I'm fine, Harry. You made it."
Only then did Harry release Vera's shoulders. The hand holding the Remembrall trembled slightly, while a blush slowly crept up her face. "I... I only..."
"Harry!" Hermione rushed over in panic. "Are you crazy? You could have broken your neck!"
"I wouldn't have." Harry raised the Remembrall in her hand, turned to Malfoy in the sky, and shouted, "See that, Malfoy? Your tricks don't work at all!"
Malfoy landed with a dark expression, anger and resentment flashing in his gray eyes. "Just you wait, Potter!"
The moment he finished speaking, a stern and furious voice rang out from the direction of the castle. "Harry Potter!"
Everyone who had still been talking jumped in surprise and turned to see Professor McGonagall striding toward them, her face more serious than ever.
Hermione gasped sharply, while Harry's face instantly went pale and her whole body began to tremble.
Vera gently held Harry's wrist. "Don't be afraid. Everyone saw what happened."
Professor McGonagall stopped before them, her eyes blazing with anger behind her glasses. "In all my years at Hogwarts, I have never seen anyone like you... How dare you—"
Harry bit her lip, a flicker of unease passing through her green eyes.
"It wasn't her fault, Professor!" Hermione anxiously tried to step forward and defend her.
"Say no more, Miss Granger."
Professor McGonagall's gaze swept over everyone before finally settling on Harry. "Miss Potter, come with me. The rest of you will continue your lesson—under Madam Hooch's supervision afterward."
Harry lowered her head, handed the Remembrall to Vera, and followed Professor McGonagall away.
Hermione wanted to follow, but Vera gently caught her wrist. "There's no point going after them now. Professor McGonagall will make a fair judgment."
Besides, Vera knew what would happen next—Harry would be recommended by Professor McGonagall to become Gryffindor's Quidditch team Seeker, the youngest Seeker in history.
While Vera was still comforting Hermione, Malfoy, who had received no punishment at all, swaggered over. "Looks like our Girl-Who-Lived is finally going to be expelled. This time, no one will protect you, Vera."
Vera gave him a cold glance, lightly spinning her wand between her fingers. "Oh? So you think your wand was disarmed before only because someone was protecting me?"
Malfoy's face instantly turned ugly. He subconsciously took a step back, his hand reaching for the wand inside his robes. "Y-you think I'm afraid of you? There are plenty of people here!"
He turned to look at his Slytherin companions, only to find that Crabbe and Goyle were the only ones who could barely stand behind him under the pressure. The other Slytherins merely watched their conflict with detached expressions.
Vera was not surprised by that result in the slightest.
Leaving aside the self-serving nature of most Slytherins, the Black family's standing among pure-bloods was exceptionally high, on par even with the Malfoy family.
Even though Vera had been sorted into Gryffindor, quite a few Slytherin students still wanted to befriend her.
She lightly pushed her wheelchair forward, slowly closing in on Malfoy. "Is that so? Then why don't we find somewhere private and have a proper talk?"
Malfoy's face went from white to green. In the end, he gritted his teeth. "You're insane! Your whole family is insane!"
With that, he turned and hurried away, with Crabbe and Goyle quickly following after him.
Watching Malfoy's retreating figure, Hermione finally breathed a sigh of relief, only to grow worried again right afterward. "Harry won't really be expelled, will she?"
Vera gently shook her head. "Don't worry. She'll be fine."
Of course, even if Harry really had broken school rules, could Hogwarts truly expel her?
Then who would deal with Voldemort afterward?
She wheeled herself to the edge of the lawn and looked thoughtfully toward the castle.
Although the process had gone a little differently, Harry's flying talent had still been noticed by Professor McGonagall.
What came next was obvious.
Sure enough, at dinner that evening, Harry ran into the Great Hall, her face unable to hide her excitement.
