Background
Vera transmigrated into the body of a disabled eleven-year-old girl after the original Vera died following months of pain and isolation. The body had suffered a catastrophic car accident that killed its Muggle foster mother, leaving complete spinal-cord injury, severe nerve compression, and paralysis below the waist. Kreacher found her after the accident and became her principal caretaker. 7
Living at Grimmauld Place as the Black family’s sole heir, Vera endured chronic pain and ineffective medicinal treatments. Her Hogwarts letter coincided with an Ancient Magic inheritance trial: a crystal awakened the Magic Circuit within her, healed burns on her wrist, and revealed that her paralysis was technically repairable. The required spell, Life Reconstruction, demands Mastery · High-Tier and at least 500 mana reserves. 1
Before beginning school, Vera acquired a rare yew wand with a Thestral tail-feather core, previously entrusted to Ollivander by Gregorovitch. Its golden patterns resonated directly with her Magic Circuit, and it accepted her immediately after ordinary wands rejected her. 3
Madam Pomfrey and Severus Snape later confirmed that ordinary healing could not restore her legs. Snape replaced her outdated medication with superior potions, reducing her pain and slowing physical deterioration, while Pomfrey arranged Hogwarts accessibility accommodations. 7
Appearance
Vera is a pale, thin girl whose frailty is emphasized by her wheelchair and the lasting effects of her injuries. She usually presents herself with careful composure despite chronic pain and physical exhaustion. 1 2
- Long, silver-gray wavy hair, often tied with a dark green ribbon. 1 2
- Originally black eyes that develop a faint golden halo when her Magic Circuit is active. 1
- Golden circuit-like markings sometimes emerge beneath her skin, particularly around her wrist and arms. 1 6
- Uses a magically modified wheelchair for mobility. 2 11
Personality
Vera is analytical, disciplined, and intensely self-reliant. Rather than accepting the limits of her condition or relying blindly on treatment, she studies mana flow, potion composition, magical theory, and the mechanics of her own Magic Circuit. Her long-term focus is regaining the ability to walk and securing enough power to control her own future. 5 25 26
She is politically cautious for her age. Vera recognizes Narcissa Malfoy’s offer of help as an attempt to gain influence over the last Black heir, reinforces Kreacher’s loyalty to herself, and conceals the full extent of her abilities from teachers and peers. 6 13 40
Though reserved and sensitive about being treated as helpless, Vera gradually accepts Harry and Hermione’s support. Her protectiveness toward them becomes a defining trait: she repeatedly withholds dangerous information, redirects threats away from Harry, and risks herself to alter Quirrell’s movements within the castle. 24 39 44
Abilities & Skills
Magic Circuit
Vera’s Ancient Magic inheritance manifests as a game-like system that tracks mana, attributes, skills, experience, and advancement.
- Grants bonuses to spell power, mana regeneration, and spell-learning speed. 1 25
- Allows her to perceive magical flows, enchantments, curses, residual spells, and hidden runes. 1 5 13
- Can briefly interfere with another being’s active magic through direct contact under demanding conditions. Vera disrupts McGonagall’s Animagus magic while touching her cat form. 12
- Alerts Vera to supernatural disturbances such as Black Fog and Voldemort’s dark magical presence. 30 32
Circuit Vision
Circuit Vision reveals the magical structure of objects, people, spells, and Hogwarts itself.
- Identifies cursed items, magical residue, Apparition traces, enchantments, and concealed magical mechanisms. 1 13
- Lets Vera recognize McGonagall’s Animagus form and observe the runes controlling Hogwarts’s moving staircases. 12 13
- Enables her to manipulate staircases and conceal evidence of magical combat through her connection to the castle. 13 49
- Prolonged use against large or complex magical systems causes pain and exhaustion. 5 11
Mana Tracing
Mana Tracing reads intense magical residue and reconstructs fragments of the caster’s actions and memories.
- Unlocks after Vera follows a residual Severing Charm on a training dummy. 5
- Allows her to learn spells by observing their mana paths, beginning with Diffindo. 5
- Reveals historical visions connected to the Room of Requirement, including a long-haired girl transforming an incoming Killing Curse into a Severing Charm. 25
- Places substantial strain on her mind, body, and mana reserves. 5 25
Spellcasting and Dueling
Vera learns spells unusually quickly by analyzing and reproducing magical flow rather than relying on conventional instruction.
- Casts Diffindo, Wingardium Leviosa, Expelliarmus, Impedimenta, Descendo, Petrification Spells, Stunning Spells, and defensive magic. 5 14 19 21 49
- Successfully performs Transfiguration on her first attempt by reproducing McGonagall’s demonstrated mana flow. 12
- Uses battlefield control, wheelchair mobility, barriers, disarming, and precise timing to defeat opponents much older than herself. 47 49
- Her limited stamina and mana reserves remain significant constraints despite her technical advantage. 5 26
Multicast
Multicast is an Ancient Magic technique that lets Vera combine spell effects.
- Initially casts two instances of the same spell simultaneously for an additional five mana. 5
- At Intermediate level, can layer up to three effects into one spell or cast two different spells using a single incantation. 25
- Uses Multicast-enhanced Impedimenta to delay Fluffy long enough for her group to escape. 21
Source Flow Reforging
Source Flow Reforging infuses a selected body part with mana, granting temporary enhanced function.
- Acquired from a flickering Ancient Magic rune in the Void Realm. 25 26
- Cannot currently affect areas below Vera’s waist, preventing it from restoring her ability to stand or walk. 26
- Strengthens her right arm, stabilizes her wrist, improves wand control, and increases casting precision. 26
- Can partially ease her spinal pain with continued practice. 30
Battle Resonance
Battle Resonance converts combat success into temporary and long-term growth.
- Raises magical power, casting speed, physical attributes, mana capacity, and Magic Circuit experience through victories. 14 22
- Reaching 75 Resonance triggers Magical Burst, temporarily increasing mana recovery and magical power by 75%. 49
- Encourages Vera to seek real combat carefully, as she considers battle more efficient than ordinary study for progression. 22 23
Occlumency
Vera begins studying Occlumency to protect her secrets from Dumbledore, Snape, and possible Legilimency.
- Initially fails to clear her mind because of her fears, pain, knowledge, and attachments. 40
- Hogwarts assists her in experiencing a state of complete mental calm, enabling an important breakthrough. 41
- Uses the resulting focus to outmaneuver Ron Weasley at Wizard’s Chess, though maintaining the state leaves her mentally exhausted. 41
Magical Creature Resonance
Vera can form a limited magical connection with certain creatures.
- Establishes a temporary resonance with Fluffy, sensing the dog’s separate consciousnesses, violence, loyalty, and duty to its master. 21
- Nearly calms Fluffy by speaking to its desire for approval, but cannot control all three heads at once. 21
- The Magic Circuit identifies Fluffy as tameable; success would grant control of the creature, increased Magic Circuit level, and 30 additional maximum mana. 20
Equipment
- Yew and Thestral tail-feather wand — Black yew wand decorated with golden spirals; contains Ancient Magic and resonates with Vera’s Magic Circuit. 3
- Enchanted wheelchair — Initially fitted with Levitation, Cushioning, defensive runes, and expanded storage. 2 8
- Enhanced Levitation Charm — Added by McGonagall so the wheelchair can travel freely over Hogwarts stairs without consuming Vera’s own magic. 11
- Invisibility Cloak — A rare Demiguise-hair cloak acquired through Black family wealth; used for covert exploration and nighttime duels. 19
- Astrolabe model of Vela — A handmade gift from Harry, inscribed: “For Vera, may your stars shine forever.” 28
Relationships
- Harry Potter — Closest friend and frequent protector. Harry defends Vera from Draco, shares Gryffindor with her, and repeatedly supports her medical care; Vera, in turn, mentors and covertly protects Harry from Quirrell and Voldemort. 4 10 43 44
- Hermione Granger — Dormmate, study partner, and trusted confidante. Hermione respects Vera’s independence while challenging her belief that needing help makes her a burden. 11 27 48
- Kreacher — Caretaker and fiercely loyal house-elf. Vera deliberately establishes herself as his sole master, while Kreacher provides food, medicine, training support, and constant concern. 5 6 7
- Nox — Vera’s Kneazle-blooded black cat and emotional companion. Nox senses dark magic, warns Vera of danger, and reacts aggressively to Quirrell. 3 10 39
- Draco Malfoy — Maternal cousin and hostile rival. Vera repeatedly defeats and publicly humiliates Draco after he mocks her disability, while referring to him as “Cousin Draco” to exploit his discomfort with their family connection. 4 19 24
- Minerva McGonagall — Head of House and prospective mentor. McGonagall arranges Vera’s accessibility accommodations, recognizes her Transfiguration talent, and invites her to a future Transfiguration Club. 11 13
- Severus Snape — A distant, harsh medical supporter. Snape condemns Vera’s prior treatment, supplies improved potions, and remains involved in managing her condition. 7 11 50
- Poppy Pomfrey — Vera’s primary healer at Hogwarts. Pomfrey monitors her paralysis, coordinates treatment, and advocates for her access needs. 7 40 43
- Albus Dumbledore — A cautious benefactor whom Vera does not fully trust. He arranges accommodations and offers Phoenix Tears, while Vera suspects he is also investigating her unusual abilities. 6 40 42
