She instinctively looked at Hermione, only to find Hermione wearing an equally hesitant expression.
Vera smiled slightly, took the piece of fabric, and gently unfolded it. "This is an Invisibility Cloak. It's made from Demiguise hair, and it can make the people or objects it covers invisible."
In the wizarding world, such things were rare and expensive. But for the old pure-blood Black family, whose entire household was rotting in prison with Vera as its sole remaining heir, it was not that difficult to obtain.
So, before the school term had even begun, she had already packed this Invisibility Cloak for her future studies and daily life.
Anyone who had read the original story knew that the Potter family also possessed an inherited Invisibility Cloak, and that it was one of the famed Deathly Hallows.
However, before Voldemort attacked the Potters, Dumbledore had recognized the cloak's extraordinary nature and borrowed it from Harry's father, James Potter, in hopes of studying it.
Yet before he could return it, the Potters were attacked by Voldemort, and one-year-old Harry was sent to live with her Muggle aunt and uncle.
Thus, the Potter family's Invisibility Cloak remained with Dumbledore until Harry's first Christmas at Hogwarts, when Dumbledore returned it to him as a Christmas gift.
The only difference between the Potter family's Deathly Hallows version and an ordinary Invisibility Cloak was that it was permanently effective, remained invisible without interruption, and could not be broken by any spell.
In other words, while they remained effective, all Invisibility Cloaks worked more or less the same.
At this point in time, Harry had not yet received the Potter family's cloak, so using an ordinary one as an emergency measure was completely fine.
Harry and Hermione both sucked in a breath, carefully touching the magical fabric.
"This is incredible!" Hermione exclaimed. Her legs were completely hidden beneath the cloak, utterly invisible.
Harry's eyes sparkled. "With this, we can get to the Trophy Room without anyone noticing, and Filch won't catch us!"
Vera nodded, saying nothing about Peeves.
After all, she could explain owning an Invisibility Cloak by claiming her family had deep pockets. But if she explained how she had convinced Peeves, who could prank almost the entire school, these two little lionesses would definitely question her to the end.
"Even so, we can't let our guard down," she reminded them softly. "When we reach the Trophy Room and meet Malfoy, or even start the duel, Harry, you must keep the Invisibility Cloak with you at all times. That way, if anything happens, you can escape."
Harry nodded eagerly, then seemed to remember something and asked worriedly, "What about you two, then?"
Vera shook her head gently. "Don't worry about us. Remember, Malfoy's target is you, Harry. As long as we ensure your safety, Hermione and I will naturally find a way to get away."
She spread the cloak open and motioned for them to come closer. "This cloak is large enough to cover all three of us. As long as we're careful, no one will notice."
Harry and Hermione exchanged a glance, then nodded together.
Midnight arrived quickly. The three girls squeezed beneath the Invisibility Cloak and carefully made their way through the castle corridors.
"This cloak is amazing," Hermione whispered in admiration. "It can actually hide all three of us."
Vera raised a finger to her lips, signaling for Hermione to be quieter.
Her movements as she pushed the wheelchair were nearly soundless. A powerful Levitation Charm kept the chair floating an inch above the ground, perfectly avoiding any noise.
"The Trophy Room is just around that corner," Harry said in a low voice. The oil lamp in her hand lit the path ahead. "Do you think Malfoy will really come?"
"He has to," Vera answered softly. "For the Malfoy family's honor."
In truth, members of pure-blood families had done no shortage of despicable things in the past. Yet in modern society, these so-called pure-bloods seemed to care even more about their family reputations.
Of course, if it had been Draco's father, Lucius, there would certainly have been another way of handling things.
But Draco Malfoy was only eleven years old. Children that age had strong pride and could not stand being provoked.
"Shh!" Harry suddenly stopped and signaled for them to be quiet. Faint footsteps and a cat's meowing came from ahead.
"It's Filch and his cat!" Hermione whispered in terror.
Vera immediately covered Hermione's mouth and lowered her voice. "Don't make a sound yet."
They held their breath as Filch and Mrs Norris passed right in front of them. Only after the footsteps completely faded did Harry let out a long breath. "That was close..."
Only then did Vera loosen the hand covering Hermione's face and whisper, "Sorry. It was an emergency."
"Mmm... it's, it's fine," Hermione replied softly. Beneath the cloak, her little face quietly turned red all the way to her ears.
However, Vera, who was focused entirely on reaching their destination as quickly as possible, did not notice her expression at all.
Soon, the three stopped outside the Trophy Room. Vera signaled for them to wait, then pushed her wheelchair toward the crack in the door as magical circuits glimmered faintly in her eyes.
A moment later, she returned to her companions.
"There's no one inside, and no ambush," she said. "Let's go in first."
Hermione nervously bit her lip. "Could this be a trap? Malfoy might have told Filch."
The corner of Vera's lips rose slightly. "Then that would be exactly what I want."
Harry blinked in confusion, but there was no time to ask.
The three girls quietly slipped into the Trophy Room. Trophies, shields, and medals glimmered faintly beneath the moonlight. Vera motioned for them to hide behind a row of tall display cases.
"What do we do now?" Harry asked, instinctively gripping the armrest of Vera's wheelchair.
Vera gently patted the back of Harry's hand. "Wait. There are still a few minutes until midnight."
As she spoke, she turned and looked around. Although she had already come here during the day to scout the place and make some preparations, the Trophy Room felt different at night.
Moonlight poured through the high windows, casting mottled shadows across the ancient trophies and shields, as though every exhibit were telling the long history of Hogwarts.
Hermione looked around uneasily. "What if Malfoy doesn't come? We can't wait here all night."
Vera's gaze fell on the doorway, and the corner of her mouth lifted. "Don't worry... look at this."
Perhaps infected by her relaxed tone, Harry followed her gaze and spotted a golden trophy in one of the cases, engraved with the name James Potter.
James Potter was Harry's father.
Harry's eyes widened at once. She unconsciously moved closer to the trophy, her fingers lightly touching the glass case. "This is my dad's trophy!"
"A Quidditch trophy? It says, 'James Potter, Hogwarts Best Chaser, 1972'!" Hermione leaned closer in curiosity as well. "Harry, your father was also on Gryffindor's Quidditch team!"
Harry's green eyes shone beneath the moonlight. She turned to Vera, unable to hide her excitement. "Vera, you knew about this all along?"
Vera nodded gently. "I saw it when I passed by during the day. I thought you might be interested."
Harry's lips curved upward, and she hugged Vera tightly. "Thank you for telling me!"
For a moment, Vera stiffened awkwardly.
Just as she was about to say something, her ears twitched. She heard footsteps outside the door.
The three girls immediately became alert, and Hermione quickly pulled a corner of the Invisibility Cloak over them.
They swiftly hid behind a tall display case and held their breath. Harry unconsciously tightened her grip on her wand, only for Vera to gently hold her wrist.
The door was pushed open softly, and three figures slipped inside furtively.
Under the moonlight, Malfoy's face looked somewhat pale as he warily scanned the Trophy Room.
"Hmph, I knew they wouldn't come." His arrogant voice rang through the empty room, and he impatiently kicked the display case beside him.
Crabbe scratched his head clumsily. "Maybe she got scared?"
Goyle immediately chimed in. "Definitely! I heard Potter grew up among Muggles. Maybe she doesn't even know what a duel is!"
A smug smile curled across Malfoy's lips. "Hmph. By tomorrow, the whole school will know that the so-called Savior is nothing but a coward!"
Harry clenched her fists so tightly that Vera could practically feel her wrist trembling in her palm.
"Don't rush. Listen to me first..." Vera leaned close to Harry, and her lips accidentally brushed against Harry's ear as the wheelchair shifted slightly, making her shudder.
But soon, as Vera whispered into her ear, Harry's eyes brightened slightly. She turned toward Vera in disbelief.
Only after receiving Vera's approving look did she nod. She quietly tucked the Invisibility Cloak into her pocket, had Hermione remain there for the moment, and pushed Vera out with her.
"We're here, Malfoy!" Harry called out.
Malfoy spun around sharply, a flicker of panic flashing through his gray eyes. "You... where did you come from?"
"Enough nonsense." Vera raised a brow. "We arrived on time. Now, it's time for you to keep your promise, Cousin Draco."
"From now on, I forbid you from calling me that—"
Malfoy frowned in disgust, his hand instinctively reaching for the wand inside his robes. But before he could fully draw it, Vera moved first.
"Expelliarmus!"
A dazzling red light flashed, and Malfoy's wand flew from his hand toward Vera.
She caught it steadily and spun it elegantly between her fingers.
"You—" Malfoy's face instantly turned deathly pale.
Even he had not expected to fall into the same trap twice.
[Defeated opponent x1. Resonance +5] [Current Battle Resonance: 5. During this battle, spellcasting speed +5%, magical power +5%, all basic attributes +5%. Continue defeating enemies to gain new bonuses. Reset after this battle ends.]
Watching the messages flash across her retina, Vera curled her lips slightly and looked at the two lackeys behind him. "Are you scared?"
Crabbe and Goyle exchanged a glance and angrily tried to draw their wands, only for Vera to hit each of them with a Petrification Spell, freezing them in place.
Vera slowly pushed her wheelchair closer to Malfoy. Under the moonlight, her silver-gray hair gleamed with a cold sheen. "Now, you've lost."
Malfoy's lips trembled. "That isn't fair! You ambushed us!"
"Ambushed you?" Harry sneered. "Who provoked us first? Who insulted Vera in the Great Hall?"
Malfoy took a step back until his back hit a display case. "I, I was only..."
"Not convinced?" Vera watched the fifteen Resonance she had gained after defeating the three of them in succession. After calculating the experience and maximum magical power it would convert into later, she still found it insufficient. She tossed his wand back to him. "Want to try again?"
"Vera!" Harry rested a worried hand on her shoulder.
"It's fine. I want to try again." Vera turned her head and reassured her softly, then looked back at the outwardly fierce but inwardly timid young master before her.
In theory, as long as the battle had not ended, Resonance could accumulate without limit. The experience and maximum magical power gained afterward would naturally become even more considerable.
Since Malfoy had come right to her doorstep to provoke her, there was nothing wrong with treating him like an experience farm and beating him a few more times, was there?
Trembling, Malfoy caught the wand Vera had thrown to him. A flicker of hesitation and struggle flashed through his gray eyes.
He looked down at his wand, then up at Vera in her wheelchair. A trace of viciousness emerged on his pale face.
"You think I'm afraid of you?" Malfoy gritted his teeth and raised his wand. "Stupe—"
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
Vera was faster than him. With a single Levitation Charm, Malfoy floated straight into the air. Even his wand fell to the floor again from his fear of being suspended.
[Defeated opponent x4. Current Battle Resonance: 20.]
Vera looked at the prompt on her retina with satisfaction and pushed her wheelchair another step closer. "Still want to continue, Cousin Draco?"
Malfoy's face in midair had become ugly beyond words. He struggled to grab onto something, but could only flail helplessly through the air. "Put me down! You cripple!"
The moment those words came out, not only did Vera frown, but Harry began trembling with rage. She rushed forward in a single step, her wand pointed directly at Malfoy. "Say that again?!"
Malfoy struggled in the air, yet he still refused to yield. "I said she's a cripple! So what? It's the truth!"
Anger burned in Harry's green eyes, and a dangerous light had begun flickering at the tip of her wand.
But Vera gently raised a hand to stop her. "Don't be impulsive, Harry."
She pushed her wheelchair directly beneath Malfoy and looked up at the boy trapped by the Levitation Charm. Her voice was gentle, yet cold. "Draco, it seems you still haven't learned how to respect others."
Since that was the case, he could not blame her for what came next.
"Descendo."
With a light wave of Vera's wand, Malfoy fell from midair as commanded.
However, because of the preparations Vera had made in advance, she had not been too harsh.
[Defeated opponent x5. Current Battle Resonance: 25.]
Before long, Malfoy climbed up from the floor, baring his teeth in pain. He did not seem seriously hurt and even had time to pick up the wand he had dropped earlier.
He glared viciously at Vera. "Just you wait! If my father finds out—"
"Finds out what? That you broke school rules and came out in the middle of the night for a duel?" Vera scoffed. "That I disarmed you twice in a row and now you can barely stand?"
Malfoy's expression turned even uglier. Anger and resentment flickered in his gray eyes, but there was even more fear.
Even though he raised his wand with trembling hands, he did not dare cast another spell.
