Harry touched her hair in surprise, then turned to Vera with a grateful smile.
"Focus, Miss Potter." Professor McGonagall's voice came from the front.
Harry hurriedly turned back, picked up her wand, and began that day's practice.
However, ever since getting her new broom, Harry had been in an excited state all day. She had previously been able to turn a matchstick into a needle with little trouble, but now she repeatedly failed.
Watching Harry hold her wand with the same absent-minded expression, Vera could not help facepalming. She reached out and pressed down Harry's hand before she could swing it. "Harry, focus."
Only then did Harry snap back to herself as if waking from a dream. She looked ruefully at the unchanged matchstick on the desk.
"Vera..." She looked at Vera awkwardly. "Was I spacing out just now?"
Vera sighed helplessly, gently took Harry by the wrist, and guided her through the proper wand movement. "Focus. Picture the shape of a needle—I'm only guiding you through it once."
Harry took a deep breath, her green eyes fixed on the matchstick as she tried her best to imagine the texture and shape of metal.
With a flick of her wand, the matchstick finally slowly transformed into a silver needle. Its point was slightly bent, but it had succeeded nonetheless.
Professor McGonagall watched their work and nodded in satisfaction. "Very good, Miss Potter. Please maintain that level of concentration next time."
Harry scratched her hair sheepishly. "Thank you, Professor."
After class, Harry excitedly grabbed Vera and Hermione. "Did you see that? I did it! Though it was with Vera's help..."
Hermione hugged her textbooks and shook her head helplessly. "If you could stay focused, you wouldn't need any help at all. Professor McGonagall said Transfiguration requires the most concentration of any magic."
"I know I was wrong..." Harry stuck out her tongue. "It's just that the new broom is so exciting!"
Vera lightly patted her shoulder. "You can get excited after training tonight. For now, we need to go to Charms."
In Charms, Professor Flitwick announced that they would be learning the Unlocking Charm that day.
Since Vera had already mastered it beforehand, she took the initiative to help Harry correct her wand movements.
"Move your wrist like this," she said, demonstrating the proper motion. "Imagine the lock cylinder is a flower, and you're using magic to gently part its petals."
Harry carefully copied her movements, then suddenly asked in a low voice, "Vera, did you use this spell to open that door that night?"
Vera gave a quiet hum.
"That's amazing." Harry sincerely praised her. "You always learn so many spells ahead of everyone else."
Vera gently shook her head. "Focus on practicing. Professor Flitwick is watching you."
Harry quickly turned back and continued practicing the Unlocking Charm, a small smile secretly rising on her lips.
Author's note: Promo: "The Demoness's Operator Training Journal"
Transported into a steampunk world where supernatural powers coexisted with mechanical craft, Vesper accidentally obtained a gacha game system that let her recruit Operators, train Operators, and dispatch Operators to challenge dungeons.
Secret knowledge, supernatural materials, potion formulas, ritual procedures—using these dungeon drops, she improved herself, fed her Operators, and won people over.
From then on, a mysterious organization quietly rose to power—
The pure holy maiden favored by the Blazing Sun, the obscure servant of Nightmist, the vampire detective of 221 Baker Street, the rose princess burdened by the guilt of a fallen nation, the silent witch of Silver Sky Island...
As powerful figures from different factions revealed one after another the great existence they truly followed, the mysterious organization finally began stepping from behind the scenes into the spotlight. Beneath the magnificent shadow woven by them all, the world could only tremble.
Steam roared, royal power crumbled, kingdoms upon jeweled stars teetered on the brink, while black eagles and giant dragons circled the ash-filled skies.
The annihilating red moon soaked through six planes, and seven fallen angels fought without end. Ancient secret beings awakened one after another, tendrils of corruption reached over from beyond distant galaxies, and the nine pillar gods looked down upon all living things from on high.
Vesper said nothing and simply kept pulling the gacha.
"Hello, what's your DPS?"
Peeking, Huh?
After barely enduring dinner, Harry pushed Vera along while constantly urging Hermione to return to their room with them.
Ron also wanted to see what the Nimbus 2000 looked like, but he could not enter the girls' dormitory. He could only sit in the common room with Neville, staring at each other.
Once they returned to the dormitory, Harry impatiently tore open the package. A brand-new Nimbus 2000 appeared before them—
It had elegant, glossy lines, a mahogany handle, and a long tail made from neatly bound, straight twigs. The words "Nimbus 2000" gleamed in gold at the top of the handle.
"It's so beautiful!" Harry carefully stroked the broom handle, her green eyes sparkling with excitement.
Hermione could not resist leaning closer for a look. "The workmanship really is far better than the school's Cleansweep Series."
Vera wheeled herself closer and lightly ran her fingers over the grain of the handle. "Try it and see how it feels."
Harry immediately gripped the broom and mimed mounting it. Her whole person seemed to shine differently. "It's perfect! It feels like an extension of my arm!"
"Then you'd better perform well," Vera said with a smile. "Don't let Professor McGonagall's expectations down."
Harry nodded firmly, then seemed to remember something and looked at Vera. "Oh, right, I promised I'd take you flying before... Want to try after training tonight? Wood probably won't mind!"
Vera froze slightly. She had not expected Harry to remember that promise.
She quickly glanced down at her legs and softly said, "Next time. Tonight, you should get familiar with your new broom first."
Harry keenly noticed her hesitation. She crouched down until she was level with Vera in her wheelchair. "It's okay. I can carry you very steadily. If you're worried, we can start from a very low height..."
"Harry," Vera quietly interrupted, "you don't need to be in such a hurry."
Harry wanted to say more, but Hermione timely cut in. "Didn't Wood say training starts at seven? If you don't leave now, you'll be late."
"Oh! I almost forgot!" Harry jumped up, grabbed her broom, and rushed outside. Then she ran back from the doorway. "Vera, we'll talk about it when I get back!"
Watching her hurriedly leave, Hermione helplessly shook her head. "When will she ever fix that impatience of hers...?"
Vera chuckled softly and wheeled herself to the window. From there, they could see the Tomori lights of the Quidditch Pitch in the distance.
Hermione walked over to her side and hesitated before speaking. "Vera... You still really want to try flying, don't you?"
Vera's fingers unconsciously rubbed the wheelchair armrest. Her faintly trembling lashes cast fragmented shadows beneath Tomori's light. "Mm."
"Then why did you refuse Harry?" Hermione asked softly. "Is it because..."
"My legs?" Vera shook her head and said frankly, "Not entirely, but mainly because I don't want to affect Harry's training. Professor McGonagall specially prepared that broom for her. She carries all of Gryffindor's hopes."
And I can't help Harry when it comes to Quidditch.
Hermione nodded thoughtfully. "You're always so considerate."
Vera shook her head. "It's just... I'm used to thinking things through."
Outside the window, several little black dots had appeared above the Quidditch Pitch. The shouts of the Quidditch players could faintly be heard.
Hermione checked the time. "I'm going to the library to return some books. Want to come?"
"No." Vera withdrew her gaze. "I want to read here for a while."
After Hermione left, the dormitory fell quiet. Vera pulled a copy of "Advanced Spell Analysis" from the shelf, only to realize that she could not focus at all.
She put the book down and took out the model star chart Harry had given her earlier. Her fingertips lightly brushed the slightly rough parchment, tracing the outline of Vela on the chart as though starlight flowed beneath her fingers.
The star chart gave off a soft blue glow in the dim dormitory, casting its light across the ceiling like a tranquil Milky Way flowing through the night sky.
Outside the window, the Tomori lights of the Quidditch Pitch shone especially brightly in the darkness. She could vaguely see several tiny black dots darting through the air.
She suddenly remembered Harry's green eyes glittering beneath the sunlight, the excitement on her face as she hugged her broom, and the earnest way she had crouched before Vera's wheelchair and promised to take her flying.
"Honestly... I can't do anything with her." Vera muttered softly, but the corners of her mouth rose beyond her control.
She set down the star chart and wheeled herself to the window, watching Harry train in the distance.
Her Magic Circuit slowly circulated within her body. She closed her eyes and felt the path of magic flowing through her veins.
"Source Flow Reforging." Vera quietly chanted, and blood-red patterns emerged over her skin once more.
She tried concentrating her magic in her eyes, and her vision immediately became incomparably clear—the distant Quidditch Pitch seemed to be right before her, and she could even see Harry's excited expression as she rode her broom.
Vera blinked in surprise. The extraordinary visual experience made her heart beat a little faster.
She carefully watched each of Harry's flying movements, seeing her nimbly evade Bludgers, dive sharply, then suddenly pull upward like a streak of red lightning.
Vera's fingertips lightly touched the window glass, and her gaze unconsciously softened.
However, that enhanced vision lasted less than ten minutes. Vera withdrew her magic with a gasp, fine beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
"Still not enough..." She lowered her head to look at her faintly trembling hands. "I need more magic to sustain it."
Still, aside from fighting, she really could not think of any way to quickly raise her magic limit and Magic Circuit level.
Malfoy, that irregularly respawning experience pack, had also gone quiet for the time being. Within Hogwarts, where else could she fight and farm experience quickly?
Vera narrowed her eyes and looked toward the Forbidden Forest in the distance.
She stared at the dark outline of the Forbidden Forest. Moonlight traced the treetops with silver, making the woods seem even more mysterious and unfathomable.
"Nox." She softly called, and the gray cat, which had grown a little larger again, immediately leaped down from the cat tree and landed lightly in her lap.
Vera stroked the cat's sleek fur and pondered. "What do you think? Should I go take a look?"
Nox tilted his head. His amber eyes shone in the dim dormitory as though he were truly considering her question.
Vera sighed softly. Reason told her that a first-year entering the Forbidden Forest alone was practically courting death.
But there would be a plot later where Harry and the others were punished and sent to patrol the Forbidden Forest, where they encountered Voldemort killing a Unicorn.
Maybe... I could give it a try.
Suppressing her pounding heart for now, Vera withdrew her gaze, picked up a book, and began reading.
Only when the whistle signaling the end of training sounded did Vera look at the time. It was already nearly nine.
Harry would be back soon.

Chapter 58: Halloween Eve
Just as Vera had expected, it was not long before the dormitory door was violently pushed open.
Harry rushed in with a flushed face. Her hair was even messier than usual, her robes were covered in grass clippings and mud, but the excitement in her green eyes was practically overflowing.
"It was amazing! Absolutely amazing!" She gestured wildly. "The Nimbus 2000 is so much more responsive than the school brooms! Wood said we can definitely have our names engraved on the Quidditch Cup this year."
Vera handed her a cup of water. "Slow down. Catch your breath first."
Harry took the cup and drained it in one gulp, then casually wiped her mouth. "Vera! You have to try it! How about I take you for a lap?"
Vera looked at her sparkling eyes and helplessly shook her head. "It's too late now, and you're covered in sweat."
"Then can we set a time?" Harry leaned closer without giving up. "Please~ I promise I'll be really steady!"
Vera laughed at her childish pleading. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Then... when you win your first Quidditch match, I'll agree. All right?"
Harry's eyes instantly lit up at Vera's condition. She crouched before Vera's wheelchair and gripped Vera's hand with a little force, as if making an especially solemn oath:
"I'll definitely win the match! You can't go back on your word then!"
Vera was startled by her sudden movement. The warmth from Harry's palm made her instinctively want to pull her hand away, but Harry held it even tighter.
Vera unconsciously held her breath and looked into Harry's eyes. With a mixture of helplessness and fondness, she softly said, "I never break my word."
"Then it's settled!" Harry excitedly sprang to her feet. "Wood said our first match will be here soon."
Vera looked at Harry's slightly flushed cheeks after exercising and gently shook her head. "It's late. Go wash up first."
Harry's shoulders immediately slumped. "Oh... You're right. Curfew's almost here."
She reluctantly put the Nimbus 2000 into the wardrobe, then could not resist looking back at it several more times before finally slipping into the bathroom.
