Vera calmly wheeled herself over to the Gryffindor table and poured herself a glass of pumpkin juice.
Breakfast was even more lavish than usual today, with oddly shaped pastries and snacks covering the long table.
Harry piled her plate high with food, not forgetting to grab one each for Vera and Hermione. "Try this. It looks like a spider, but it's actually made of chocolate!"
Hermione cautiously took a bite. "It tastes pretty good... though it looks a little scary."
Ron, who was afraid of spiders, threw the chocolate spider in front of him a good distance away with a look of horror.
Vera took a bite of the chocolate as well. As the cloying sweetness melted over her tongue, she casually glanced toward the staff table and noticed that Quirrell's seat was empty today.
"Professor Quirrell didn't come to breakfast?" Hermione noticed the empty seat too.
Ron said indistinctly through a mouthful of sausage, "Maybe the garlic knocked him out."
Harry giggled and took a big bite of the fried egg in front of her.
After breakfast, the students left the Great Hall in twos and threes, preparing for the day's lessons.
The morning classes passed without incident, and in the afternoon, it was time for Potions.
Snape wore his usual gloomy expression, his black robes billowing behind him like bat wings.
"Today," he began coldly, "you will be learning to brew Forgetfulness Potion."
His gaze swept across the classroom before finally settling on Harry. "I hope certain people can focus their attention instead of spending all day thinking about irrelevant... activities."
Harry leaned back slightly and muttered under her breath, "It's not like I was zoning out..."
Vera lightly nudged her elbow, signaling for her to pay attention.
After Snape briefly explained the brewing process, he had them begin on their own.
Before long, all manner of strange smells filled the underground classroom.
A Snape-Specific Build Appears (Fifth Update)
Vera skillfully measured out the ingredients. Her Magic Circuit allowed her to clearly sense the paths of magical flow within the potion ingredients in her cauldron.
Every subtle shift in color and transformation of energy was laid bare before her eyes.
Of course, she was already used to such assistance. What pleased her even more was the boost Source Flow Reforging gave her in this regard.
"Source Flow Reforging," she murmured. Crimson patterns faintly lit up beneath her skin, perfectly concealed by her wizard robes.
Most of her magic was concentrated in her hands. Her fingers, which had always trembled slightly before, were now exceptionally steady as she precisely chopped and ground the Valerian and Mistletoe Berries, adding them to the cauldron and stirring at exactly the right moment.
The potion immediately changed from pale blue to milky white. Vera patiently added the remaining Moonstone powder and waited for the potion to produce the textbook silver mist.
Harry, meanwhile, was somewhat flustered. Her potion had already turned a strange shade of purple.
"Vera," she whispered for help, "I think something's wrong with my potion..."
Vera glanced over and whispered, "You added the Moonlight Stone powder in the wrong order... Add two drops of Unicorn Hair solution now. That should fix it."
Harry hurriedly did as she said, and the potion's color slowly returned to what it should have been.
"Thanks!" she whispered gratefully. Then she looked up, met Snape's unfathomable eyes, and instinctively froze.
Swallowing nervously and awkwardly, Harry blinked and unconsciously edged closer to Vera, who was still completely unaware of Snape approaching, trying to warn her.
But Vera still had her head lowered, intently stirring the nearly finished potion on the small desk specially adjusted to suit her seated height.
Snape's gaze drifted between the two of them for a while, lingering especially long on the two potions before them, whose progress was worlds apart.
At last, he silently walked over to Harry and lowered his head to inspect her cauldron.
"Miss Potter," he drawled, "your potion looks like Troll bathwater."
Harry's face flushed bright red. "Professor, I've tried my best..."
"Clearly, your 'best' is nowhere near enough," Snape said coldly. "Start over."
Just as he raised his wand to clear out Harry's cauldron, Vera looked up at him in time.
"Professor, Harry's potion is nearly finished. She only needs a little more time."
Snape turned his gaze to Vera, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Miss Black, I'm curious. Since when did you become Miss Potter's spokesperson?"
Vera met his gaze calmly. "I am only stating the facts, Professor. Harry's potion may not be the perfect color, but its effects should not be a problem."
The corner of Snape's mouth twisted into something resembling a sneer. "Because of your meddling, Gryffindor will lose—"
"Professor!" Harry suddenly interrupted him. She swiftly removed her glasses, her clear green eyes staring straight into Snape's. "Vera was only helping a classmate. She did nothing wrong. If you want to take points, then take mine!"
Snape's expression froze for an instant. His pitch-black eyes fixed tightly on Harry, while his lips trembled faintly.
The classroom fell utterly silent. Almost everyone held their breath, scarcely daring to breathe.
Still, Vera caught sight of Malfoy and his two companions grinning with malicious delight from the corner of her eye.
Snape's gaze lingered on Harry's eyes for far too long, leaving even the students who barely dared breathe looking over in confusion.
Finally, Snape slowly looked away. His tone seemed somewhat gentler than before. "Since you are so eager to recklessly stand up for your classmate, then... Miss Potter, remain after class to clean the cauldrons."
Harry's shoulders slumped, but she was clearly relieved.
"Now," Snape said, turning toward the front of the classroom, "continue brewing your potions."
With that, he turned and strode toward the front, his black robes billowing behind him.
While his back was turned, Harry winked at Vera and whispered, "At least he didn't take our points..."
Vera frowned and gently shook her head at her. "You didn't have to do that."
"Of course I did. Besides, you taught me that method before. It worked well, didn't it?"
Harry gave a sly smile, her green eyes gleaming with triumph. "But now I won't be able to get to the Great Hall until later."
Vera sighed helplessly and said softly, "Then I'll wait for you."
"No need." Harry's eyes curved as she lowered her voice. "If I miss dinner, just grab me an extra sandwich. Cleaning cauldrons is hard work."
"But..." Vera wanted to say more, only for Hermione to gently tug at her sleeve.
She came back to herself and realized Snape was glaring at them again with a displeased expression.
Vera pressed her lips together and fell silent.
They endured until the end of class, when Snape ordered each of them to bottle up a vial of potion and hand it in.
Vera and Hermione's potions were naturally textbook silver, their surfaces gleaming with a pearly luster.
Harry's potion was slightly darker, but Snape merely frowned and said nothing more.
"Submit an essay on the brewing of Forgetfulness Potion before the weekend, no less than twelve inches long," Snape announced as the bell rang. "Class dismissed."
The students felt as though they had been granted a reprieve. They quickly packed up and fled the cold underground classroom, happily rushing toward the Great Hall.
Vera and Hermione wheeled out of the classroom when Snape's cold voice came from behind them. "Miss Potter, you may begin scrubbing the cauldrons."
Harry shrugged and resignedly stayed behind to clean the cauldrons.
"Are we really not going to wait for her?" Hermione asked worriedly, glancing back.
"She said she wanted sandwiches." Vera looked back at Harry's slender figure in the classroom, facing Snape alone, and silently let out a breath.
Hermione nodded, and the two of them headed toward the Great Hall together.
Along the way, they saw plenty of students laughing and playing in the corridors as they celebrated Halloween.
As if recalling something, Hermione suddenly lowered her voice. "Vera, that feeling you mentioned last night... will it happen again today?"
Vera's hand paused slightly on her wheelchair. "I'm not sure, but it never hurts to be careful."
Hermione nodded thoughtfully and did not ask further.
The two arrived at the Great Hall and sat down together at the Gryffindor table. Hermione immediately picked up a sandwich and set it beside her, intending to take it away later.
"How long do you think Snape will keep Harry?" Ron had somehow come over, his mouth stuffed with pumpkin pie. "The sun's almost down."
Hermione shook her head. "Hopefully not too long..."
As Vera listened to them talk, she silently tightened her grip on the wheelchair's armrests, her expression darkening.
If the plot really had inertia, could it be that... Harry would be the one to encounter the Troll instead?
Snape Regrets It Bitterly (Not Really) (Sixth Update)
The moment she reached that conclusion, Vera was horrified. Looking at the dazzling spread of food before her, she lost her appetite entirely and almost instinctively tried to turn her wheelchair toward the Potions classroom to find Harry.
"Vera, what's wrong? Why do you look so pale?"
Even as she happily ate amid the cheerful atmosphere around them, Hermione, as perceptive as ever, immediately noticed something was wrong with Vera's complexion. She hurriedly held down the wheelchair that was about to roll away and asked in confusion.
Vera pressed her lips together, unconsciously gripping the armrests tighter.
The fact that Quirrell would release a Troll was knowledge she only possessed because of her godlike perspective.
Although Quirrell was still absent from the staff table, she had no evidence at all of what he might do next.
Not to mention that Harry possibly being in danger was only her own guess. Even Vera could not be certain how far the plot's inertia would drive events.
But she knew that if she simply sat and waited, and Harry really was kept behind by Snape until late, then happened to run into the released Troll, something could go wrong.
After all, in the original story, luck had played a major role in the Golden Trio successfully knocking out the Troll.
She could not tell Hermione the truth. Her gaze swept over the noisy Great Hall, and after biting her lip, she leaned forward and placed both hands on Hermione's back in an extremely intimate posture.
To uninformed outsiders, it looked as though they were hugging.
But only Hermione knew that Vera's hands resting on her shoulders were trembling faintly as Vera breathed unevenly against her ear and whispered, "Hermione, I have a bad feeling."
Vera lowered her voice, warm breath brushing Hermione's ear. "Harry has been alone in the Potions classroom for too long. I want to go check on her."
Hermione's brows immediately furrowed. "But Professor Snape said—"
"I know." Vera gently took her hand. "Do you remember that special sense I mentioned last night? It's back now."
As soon as she finished speaking, Hermione's brow furrowed even more deeply, and her expression became serious.
"Vera, look at me first." Hermione pushed herself back slightly and stared at her solemnly. "Do you know about a psychological disorder Muggles call PTSD?"
PTSD was a severe stress disorder caused by intense psychological trauma from sudden disasters, natural catastrophes, and similar events. It could cause patients to relive traumatic experiences, become hypervigilant, and exhibit avoidance or emotional numbness.
Ever since Vera had suddenly suggested finding the twins last night to buy prank items for self-defense, Hermione had wanted to say this.
But considering Vera's mental state, and with Harry always beside them, Hermione had not found an opportunity. She also could not bluntly point out the possible hidden psychological trauma of her friend.
But now, Harry had only been away from them for a short while, and Vera was already so panicked that she was even anxious to find Harry.
It was difficult for Hermione not to think of those symptoms.
Her friend had suffered a car accident that had devastated both her body and mind, and she was still afflicted by its aftereffects.
Vera froze slightly, then realized what Hermione was worried about.
She gently shook her head. "No, Hermione, this isn't PTSD. My premonition... is special. You can think of it as... a kind of prophecy."
She hesitated, then lowered her voice. "Since the car accident, I can sometimes sense danger approaching.
And now, that feeling has returned, and it's stronger than it was last night."
Hermione's brow knitted even more tightly. "You said the same thing yesterday, but nothing happened... Are you sure this isn't just psychological?"
"I'm sure." Vera looked directly into her eyes and said each word clearly. "Can you trust me one more time?"
Hermione's expression softened somewhat. "But..."
"Please, let me go take a look." Vera said softly. "If everything is normal, I'll come right back, okay?"
Hermione bit her lip. Looking at Vera's pitiful appearance, even the hardest heart would have softened by now.
Besides, she had only wanted to look after Vera in the first place.
"How about this?" Vera continued softly. "If you're worried, you can come with me, okay?"
Ron, listening beside them in complete confusion, said, "What are you two talking about? What danger could Harry be in?"
"Snape may be scary, but he wouldn't actually hurt a student, right? At most, he's making her do some hard labor."
Since he had been eating the whole time, Ron had clearly not heard their entire conversation, but he had given Vera a more convenient excuse.
"Ron's right. Maybe I'm overthinking it. But... I still want to make sure Harry is all right." Vera softened her expression and gently tugged at Hermione's wizard robes.
She was already beautiful to begin with, and the expression she showed now was so unlike her usual self that it was impossible to refuse her.
Hermione took a deep breath and finally made up her mind. "All right. I'll go with you."
