Not long after Romon entered the underground caves, he began to feel as though he was about to lose his way.
The place was practically a labyrinth, with one layer of chambers after another, passage after passage, cavern after cavern. Worse, the caverns and passages all looked remarkably alike. A moment's distraction was enough to lose his bearings and leave him unable to tell where he was.
In the demons' world, the surface was plagued by bitter cold, storms, magical beasts, and countless other dangers, so most demons were cave dwellers who lived underground.
Only castles stood aboveground, proclaiming sovereignty over their territories. He had learned this from an Imp he had captured.
Romon had visited a similar region before: the Underdark.
Only after venturing deep into the Abyssal World this time did he discover, to his surprise, that despite their similarities, the Abyssal World and the Underdark were entirely different.
Romon paused, a thoughtful expression appearing on his face.
Although he had not been here very long, he had already noticed something unusual.
It was the omnipresent demonic corruption.
This demonic corruption was difficult to describe. It seemed to be mixed with negative energy, yet it was not quite the same thing.
It was something like a distortion.
It did demons no harm whatsoever and even strengthened them.
To foreign species, however, it was highly corrosive. This barely perceptible demonic corruption was difficult for ordinary professionals to detect or expel.
Of course, upon closer examination, this demonic corruption was not entirely harmful. It often destroyed the body's original structure and induced mutations that allowed it to adapt to this cruel world.
This demonic corruption is well worth studying! A glowing barrier formed by his domain enveloped him as he used the power within his body to purge the corruption.
