History
Calamity Planet became the Blue River System's only prison planet after its severe climate and barren conditions made it a place of exile. Formerly an ocean world known as Blue Ocean Planet, it was transformed into a desert after a meteorite melted its ice and caused its water to disappear. With the death penalty abolished, vicious male serious offenders were sent there as their final destination. First Prison was one of the planet's three major prisons. 1 48
Before Lu Mi's tenure, First Prison was administered by the corrupt Gold-Grade Gibbon Energy Master Ren Chong. Lu Mi arrived as deputy warden, openly defied Ren Chong's attempt to force his submission, and later suppressed a Diamond-Rank inmate after that prisoner's Energy Lock Ring failed during a riot that killed 263 inmates and Ren Chong. Yan Mei appointed Lu Mi as warden three days later, while Ming Qiuxue suspected that Lu Mi had engineered the circumstances of his promotion. 171
Under Lu Mi, First Prison operated through violent, fear-based discipline and developed the Blue River System's highest accidental inmate-death ranking. Despite their public rivalry, Lu Mi and Ming Qiuxue became close friends after Lu Mi took office. 1 9 171
Yu Tu's arrival as prisoner 0456 placed First Prison at the center of a political conflict. Although Yu Tu had originally been ordered to Second Prison, Lu Mi secretly had the transfer redirected to First Prison through falsified escort orders. 3 37
As outside authorities repeatedly sought to interrogate or transfer Yu Tu, Lu Mi increasingly defied orders. After evidence emerged that prison staff had been manipulated to endanger Yu Tu and that the authorities were targeting both Yu Tu and Ming Qiuxue, Lu Mi openly refused to surrender him. 41 42 43
When Ming Qiuxue began his rebellion, Lu Mi transformed First Prison from a detention facility into a revolutionary force. Nearly seventy percent of its officers removed their caps and epaulets, renounced their official identities, and marched from the prison to fight for their future. 47 48
The Directorate's subsequent assault on Calamity Planet forced the First Prison rebels into a wider conflict alongside Second Prison's forces. After the destruction of Second Prison and Imperial bombardment, surviving members of the rebellion escaped to Shelter No. 1 and later regrouped in Little Seven Castle, where they began planning a future beyond imprisonment and Directorate rule. 50 53 61
Facilities and Security
- Main gates and exercise yard — Black iron gates and a large yard where serious offenders exercise under guard. During the F Annihilation Plan, First Prison's officers pass through these gates after renouncing their identities and marching to Second Prison. 1 48
- Single-numbered cells — Cells 01–09 are private rooms with beds, bathrooms, and limited television access; they are considered luxurious accommodations for high-status prisoners. Yu Tu is assigned to Cell 05. 3
- Special Interrogation Room — A facial-recognition-secured room equipped with an interrogation chair, torture rack, and wall-mounted torture instruments. 3
- Infirmary — Overseen by Doctor Rete; used for prisoner treatment and for concealing deaths attributed to inmates' injuries. 7 33
- Workrooms — Prisoners rotate through seven workrooms to complete labor assignments. Workroom Seven is the prison's assembly room. 32
- Cafeteria — A supervised group dining area included in the required daily activities for serious offenders. 29
- Warden's monitoring room — Contains live surveillance feeds and a large emergency-control console; Lu Mi uses it to activate First Prison's first-level defense system during a sandstorm. 8
- Warden's office — Contains prison-wide surveillance feeds, electronic personnel records, field-duty status indicators, and a communications system used to coordinate emergency responses. 9
- Cang Qi's workshop — A restricted workshop containing Cang Qi's machinery and experimental equipment. Even Lu Mi cannot enter without Cang Qi's authorization. 13
- Sky Prison Cell — A restricted, star-bound facility above Calamity Planet built by Cang Qi for Prisoner 01, Lan Su. It is reached through a secured transit passage and aerial skybridge. 24
Security Measures
- Serious offenders are fitted with Energy Lock Rings, though exceptionally dangerous Energy Masters may also be shackled. 1 7
- Yu Tu's original restraints included custom shackles with spikes driven through his wrists and ankles—devices Rete identifies as restraints commonly used by nobles on slaves. 7
- Cang Qi's Soundless Path can soundproof a cell by creating a barrier around its entrance. 4
- First Prison maintains surveillance, field-duty communications, emergency defenses, and status monitoring for its guards. 8 9
- Prisoners are expected to earn a monthly base wage through labor; failure to meet the requirement results in progressively worse food and living conditions. 9
- Higher authorities can require prisoners to complete scheduled recreation, cafeteria meals, work assignments, and compensation-related tasks; noncompliance may be used as grounds for transfer. 28
- Tian Chi later reveals that the Emperor secretly installed self-destruct devices beneath Calamity Planet's three major prisons. 53
Personnel
- Lu Mi — First Prison's warden. He maintains strict control through intimidation, punishment, and personal intervention before leading its personnel into rebellion. 1 9 48
- Cang Qi — Deputy Warden and Advanced Mechanist. He develops security technology including the Soundless Path and built the Sky Prison Cell. 4 24
- Zhang Jiao — Lu Mi's secretary and a clerical prison officer who handles superior directives and interrogation procedure. 9 10
- Lin Luo — Deputy Warden whose Gold-Grade Rainbow Illusion Butterfly enabled the falsification of Yu Tu's escort orders. 9 37
- Rete — First Prison's doctor, responsible for treating prisoners and cooperating with Lu Mi's falsified death reports. 7 33
- Black Shadow — Lu Mi's mutated black-panther pet mech; it guards Yu Tu and functions as Lu Mi's additional set of eyes. 2 33 41
- Mo Ke and Luo Wei — Prison officers and reliable subordinates who assist Lu Mi with investigations, body removal, prisoner restraint, and the rebellion. 9 41 47
- Vicks — An inspector responsible for maintaining order on Calamity Planet. His unauthorized attempt to inspect and question Yu Tu provokes Yu Tu's violent resistance and Lu Mi's suspicion. 19
- Peter — A First Prison officer exposed as Falcon No. 03, an externally controlled spy who helped manipulate events around Yu Tu. Lu Mi kills him after discovering the implanted Slave-Taming Eye in his left eye. 41 42
- Ren Chong — First Prison's former warden, a corrupt Gold-Grade Gibbon Energy Master who dies during the riot that precedes Lu Mi's appointment as warden. 171
Rules and Discipline
First Prison's rules are enforced harshly and sometimes arbitrarily. Lu Mi sends prisoner 1279 to Ghoststone Forest for allegedly disrespecting a superior, while another rule prohibits the destruction of public property. 1 17
The prison officially frames its mission as “convincing people through virtue,” but it has the Blue River System's highest accidental inmate-death ranking under Lu Mi's administration. 9 41
- Serious offenders are prohibited from using Source Energy openly. 10
- Unauthorized visits or private interrogations of Yu Tu are forbidden under Lu Mi's orders. 8 19
- Lu Mi officially forbids prisoners from becoming officers' or other prisoners' “pets” in exchange for protection. 24
- Killing another serious offender can result in confinement in Ghoststone Forest, even when committed in self-defense. 33
- Serious offenders must follow their assigned daily schedule, including recreation, meals, labor, and compensation-related activities. 28 29
Ghoststone Forest
Ghoststone Forest is a naturally formed ghost-mine forest on northern Calamity Planet and serves as a punishment site for First Prison. 1 33
- Its ghoststone induces dangerous illusions and can distort prisoners' perceptions. 34
- Yu Tu receives a fifteen-day sentence there after attacking Ai Mu in Workroom Seven. 33
- During Yu Tu's confinement, Lu Mi learns that Yu Tu's apparent happiness is caused by harmful hallucinations centered on an idealized version of Lu Mi. 34
- During a blizzard, Ming Qiuxue uses an authenticated emergency interrogation order to remove Yu Tu from Ghoststone Forest while Lu Mi is absent. 35
Major Incidents
Lu Mi's Appointment
Lu Mi arrives at First Prison as a Diamond-Grade Black Panther Energy Master and deputy warden under Ren Chong. After Ren Chong attempts to humiliate him by demanding that he serve tea as a gesture of submission, Lu Mi pours the tea over him and violently overpowers him. 171
A month later, a Diamond-Rank inmate's Energy Lock Ring fails during a riot, leading to the deaths of 263 prisoners and Ren Chong. Lu Mi suppresses the inmate, and Yan Mei appoints him First Prison's new warden three days later. Ming Qiuxue later concludes that Lu Mi likely orchestrated the riot to remove Ren Chong and gain the position. 171
Yu Tu's Detention
Yu Tu arrives at First Prison under heavy restraints and is registered as prisoner 0456, a number symbolizing “You are mine.” He receives a private cell because of his former achievements as First Commander. 1 3
His confinement immediately exposes problems with the prison's water supply and security procedures. Lu Mi later orders Cell 05's water activated and gives Yu Tu exceptional protection from unauthorized personnel. 3 8
After authorities require Yu Tu to perform the standard activities assigned to serious offenders, Lu Mi creates an individualized schedule for him while attempting to keep his abnormal abilities and political importance concealed. 28 29
Workroom Seven Killing
Prisoner Ai Mu orchestrates a disturbance in Workroom Seven, destroys surveillance, and attempts to assault Yu Tu. Yu Tu retaliates with white vines and a screwdriver, leaving Ai Mu gravely injured. 32 33
Lu Mi publicly punishes Yu Tu with fifteen days in Ghoststone Forest, then secretly suffocates the surviving Ai Mu in the infirmary and orders Rete to report the death as a consequence of his injuries. 33
Internal Conspiracy
After Yu Tu is tortured in Second Prison, Lu Mi investigates the Workroom Seven incident and discovers altered work schedules, staff involvement, and prisoners who incited Ai Mu. 41
The inquiry exposes prison officer Peter as “Falcon No. 03,” an agent communicating with an unknown master. Peter possesses a Slave-Taming Eye, also called a Slave-Driving Eye, an implanted device that allows external monitoring, communication, and potential self-destruction. 42 43
The device's construction also proves that an unknown mechanic has achieved highly advanced space-folding technology. Lu Mi concludes from Peter's memories that Yu Tu was meant to be sent to Second Prison and that Ming Qiuxue was the conspiracy's intended second target. 43
Rebellion
The authorities suspend Ming Qiuxue, place Qi An in control of Second Prison, and order Yu Tu transferred to Third Prison. Lu Mi refuses the transfer and physically forces his way into Second Prison with First Prison officers. 43
Following Ming Qiuxue's decision to rebel, Lu Mi removes his official insignia and rallies First Prison's personnel to join the F Annihilation Plan. First Prison's officers subsequently abandon their institutional identities and march on Second Prison. 47 48
Nearly seventy percent of First Prison's officers remove their caps and epaulets before leaving the prison under Lu Mi and Yu Tu's leadership. They join Ming Qiuxue's forces in fighting Qi An, the Imperial Army, and the Prison Directorate. 48 49
Directorate Counterattack and Evacuation
Deputy Director Tian Chi arrives with more than one hundred Prison Directorate spacecraft and orders the execution of the rebels. Under Imperial orders, prison gates are opened and violent offenders from the major prisons are released to attack First and Second Prison's rebel forces. 49 50
After Qi An detonates the device beneath Second Prison, Ming Qiuxue shields the surviving rebels with the Longevity Lock. Imperial bombardment devastates the escapees, forcing the remaining First Prison personnel and their allies to flee to Shelter No. 1. 53
The surviving group later regroups in Little Seven Castle. With Calamity Planet submerged and the Imperial Army temporarily withdrawn, the former First Prison and Second Prison rebels begin pursuing a broader movement for freedom, dignity, and the restoration of Lan Su. 61
