History
Calamity Planet became the Blue River System's only prison planet after its severe climate and barren conditions made it a place of exile. With the death penalty abolished, vicious male serious offenders were sent there as their final destination. First Prison was one of the planet's three major prisons and operated under Warden Lu Mi's violent, fear-based rule. 1
Yu Tu's arrival as prisoner 0456 placed First Prison at the center of a political conflict. Although Yu Tu had originally been ordered to Second Prison, Lu Mi secretly had the transfer redirected to First Prison through falsified escort orders. 3 37
As outside authorities repeatedly sought to interrogate or transfer Yu Tu, Lu Mi increasingly defied orders. After evidence emerged that prison staff had been manipulated to endanger Yu Tu and that the authorities were targeting both Yu Tu and Ming Qiuxue, Lu Mi openly refused to surrender him. 41 42 43
When Ming Qiuxue began his rebellion, Lu Mi transformed First Prison from a detention facility into a revolutionary force. Nearly seventy percent of its officers removed their caps and epaulets, renounced their official identities, and marched from the prison to fight for their future. 47 48
Facilities and Security
- Main gates and exercise yard — Black iron gates and a large yard where serious offenders exercise under guard. 1
- Single-numbered cells — Cells 01–09 are private rooms with beds, bathrooms, and limited television access; they are considered luxurious accommodations for high-status prisoners. Yu Tu is assigned to Cell 05. 3
- Special Interrogation Room — A facial-recognition-secured room equipped with an interrogation chair, torture rack, and wall-mounted torture instruments. 3
- Infirmary — Overseen by Doctor Rete; used for prisoner treatment and for concealing deaths attributed to inmates' injuries. 7 33
- Workrooms — Prisoners rotate through seven workrooms to complete labor assignments. Workroom Seven is the prison's assembly room. 32
- Cafeteria — A supervised group dining area included in the required daily activities for serious offenders. 29
- Warden's monitoring room — Contains live surveillance feeds and a large emergency-control console; Lu Mi uses it to activate First Prison's first-level defense system during a sandstorm. 8
- Sky Prison Cell — A restricted, star-bound facility above Calamity Planet built by Cang Qi for Prisoner 01, Lan Su. 24
Security Measures
- Serious offenders are fitted with Energy Lock Rings, though exceptionally dangerous Energy Masters may also be shackled. 1 7
- Yu Tu's original restraints included custom shackles with spikes driven through his wrists and ankles—devices Rete identifies as restraints commonly used by nobles on slaves. 7
- Cang Qi's Soundless Path can soundproof a cell by creating a barrier around its entrance. 4
- First Prison maintains surveillance, field-duty communications, emergency defenses, and status monitoring for its guards. 8 9
- Prisoners are expected to earn a monthly base wage through labor; failure to meet the requirement results in progressively worse food and living conditions. 9
Personnel
- Lu Mi — First Prison's warden. He maintains strict control through intimidation, punishment, and personal intervention. 1 9
- Cang Qi — Deputy Warden and Advanced Mechanist. He develops security technology including the Soundless Path and built the Sky Prison Cell. 4 24
- Zhang Jiao — Lu Mi's secretary and a clerical prison officer who handles superior directives and interrogation procedure. 9 10
- Lin Luo — Deputy Warden whose Gold-Grade Rainbow Illusion Butterfly enabled the falsification of Yu Tu's escort orders. 9 37
- Rete — First Prison's doctor, responsible for treating prisoners and cooperating with Lu Mi's falsified death reports. 7 33
- Black Shadow — Lu Mi's mutated black-panther pet mech; it guards Yu Tu and functions as Lu Mi's additional set of eyes. 2 33 41
Rules and Discipline
First Prison's rules are enforced harshly and sometimes arbitrarily. Lu Mi sends prisoner 1279 to Ghoststone Forest for allegedly disrespecting a superior, while another rule prohibits the destruction of public property. 1 17
The prison officially frames its mission as “convincing people through virtue,” but it has the Blue River System's highest accidental inmate-death ranking under Lu Mi's administration. 9 41
- Serious offenders are prohibited from using Source Energy openly. 10
- Unauthorized visits or private interrogations of Yu Tu are forbidden under Lu Mi's orders. 8 19
- Lu Mi officially forbids prisoners from becoming officers' or other prisoners' “pets” in exchange for protection. 24
- Killing another serious offender can result in confinement in Ghoststone Forest, even when committed in self-defense. 33
Ghoststone Forest
Ghoststone Forest is a naturally formed ghost-mine forest on northern Calamity Planet and serves as a punishment site for First Prison. 1 33
- Its ghoststone induces dangerous illusions and can distort prisoners' perceptions. 34
- Yu Tu receives a fifteen-day sentence there after attacking Ai Mu in Workroom Seven. 33
- During Yu Tu's confinement, Lu Mi learns that Yu Tu's apparent happiness is caused by harmful hallucinations centered on an idealized version of Lu Mi. 34
Major Incidents
Yu Tu's Detention
Yu Tu arrives at First Prison under heavy restraints and is registered as prisoner 0456, a number symbolizing “You are mine.” He receives a private cell because of his former achievements as First Commander. 1 3
His confinement immediately exposes problems with the prison's water supply and security procedures. Lu Mi later orders Cell 05's water activated and gives Yu Tu exceptional protection from unauthorized personnel. 3 8
Workroom Seven Killing
Prisoner Ai Mu orchestrates a disturbance in Workroom Seven, destroys surveillance, and attempts to assault Yu Tu. Yu Tu retaliates with white vines and a screwdriver, leaving Ai Mu gravely injured. 32 33
Lu Mi publicly punishes Yu Tu with fifteen days in Ghoststone Forest, then secretly suffocates the surviving Ai Mu in the infirmary and orders Rete to report the death as a consequence of his injuries. 33
Internal Conspiracy
After Yu Tu is tortured in Second Prison, Lu Mi investigates the Workroom Seven incident and discovers altered work schedules, staff involvement, and prisoners who incited Ai Mu. 41
The inquiry exposes prison officer Peter as “Falcon No. 03,” an agent communicating with an unknown master. Peter possesses a Slave-Taming Eye, an implanted device that allows external monitoring, communication, and potential self-destruction. 42 43
Rebellion
The authorities suspend Ming Qiuxue, place Qi An in control of Second Prison, and order Yu Tu transferred to Third Prison. Lu Mi refuses the transfer and physically forces his way into Second Prison with First Prison officers. 43
Following Ming Qiuxue's decision to rebel, Lu Mi removes his official insignia and rallies First Prison's personnel to join the F Annihilation Plan. First Prison's officers subsequently abandon their institutional identities and march on Second Prison. 47 48
