Background

Jingliu was summoned from another world by Xu Yuan’s Contract Summoning Card. The card formed an Equal Contract between them, placing her in Douluo Continent with her strength converted to its cultivation system. Upon arrival, she identified herself as a discarded Xianzhou soldier and wandering swordswoman, warning Xu Yuan that associating with her could bring trouble 2 3.

She is the former Sword Champion of the Xianzhou Luofu and a member of the High-Cloud Quintet. Her greatest unresolved attachment is Baiheng; the possibility that Xu Yuan’s summoning could eventually reach the High-Cloud Quintet era gives her renewed hope and raises her trust in him 2 3.

After arriving in Douluo Continent, Jingliu becomes Xu Yuan’s principal protector and begins teaching him the Sword Dao. Over five years of training at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, she helps shape him into a committed swordsman while their bond gradually develops beyond companionship 22 23.

Appearance

Jingliu is a tall woman with long silver-white hair that fades into pale blue near the ends. She has crimson eyes and commonly wears a black silk blindfold patterned with a silver moon 2 3.

Personality

Jingliu is restrained, cold-spoken, and intensely focused on the sword. She believes a sword is an instrument for severing life and death, and that a true blade must not be dulled by hesitation or distractions 6.

Despite her aloofness, she is fiercely protective of Xu Yuan. She encourages him to settle grievances, accompanies him through dangerous cultivation, and immediately responds whenever he faces a threat 4 41. Her protectiveness frequently becomes possessiveness as Xu Yuan grows closer to other women, particularly Acheron 48 61 91.

Baiheng’s death remains her deepest emotional wound. Jingliu recognizes imitations of Baiheng as false, but still accepts temporary comfort from Sparkle’s transformation and later breaks down emotionally when Baiheng is truly summoned 27 148.

Jingliu is summoned immediately after Xu Yuan’s initial Martial Soul assessment. Her appearance as a nine-ring Titled Douluo shocks Notting City and causes major continental factions to seek her allegiance 2 3 5.

She backs Xu Yuan during his confrontation with Yu Xiaogang, giving him the confidence to retaliate against the man who sought to use him as an experimental subject 4 5.

Sunset Forest and Sword Training

Jingliu escorts Xu Yuan to Sunset Forest, protects him during cultivation, and begins training him through sword duels. A Mara episode turns one lesson into a dangerous battle until Xu Yuan’s Abundance blessing restores her clarity 6 7.

She intimidates Dugu Bo, helps Xu Yuan secure access to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, and guards him during his immortal-herb refinement and Soul Ring absorption 8 9 13.

Five Years at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

Jingliu formally commits Xu Yuan to five years of disciplined Sword Dao training. By the end of this period, they travel together as close companions whose relationship is no longer purely mentor and student 22 23.

Contract Companions and Romantic Rivalry

The arrival of Sparkle and Acheron repeatedly triggers Jingliu’s Mara and jealousy. Xu Yuan mediates these conflicts with his Abundance blessing, while Jingliu becomes increasingly direct about her attachment to him 26 27 48 61.

After receiving Gold of Life, Jingliu advances to the Emanator level and competes with Acheron both as a protector and for Xu Yuan’s attention 61 62 70.

Marriage to Xu Yuan

Following Xu Yuan’s Dragonlord inheritance, Jingliu accepts a private arrangement with Acheron and asks Xu Yuan to become her husband according to Xianzhou tradition 83.

Afterward, she identifies herself as Xu Yuan’s first wife and insists that she will not yield the position of principal wife, even while accepting his relationships with others 84 91.

Reunion with Baiheng

Xu Yuan eventually obtains a Foxian Marriage Contract Summoning Jade fragment and uses it to summon Baiheng. Jingliu, who had waited six years for the possibility, embraces Baiheng in tears 148.

Jingliu later warns Xu Yuan that Baiheng is bound to him by fate and demands that he treat Baiheng well 150.

Later Battles

Jingliu continues serving as Xu Yuan’s foremost sword-wielding protector. She destroys Ice Empress’s 400,000-year lightning tribulation with one strike and later kills Tang Xiao after he attacks Xu Yuan outside an auction house 66 142.
