To Huo Hai, these people were nothing. What truly concerned him was why they had targeted him. Men willing to die on command were clearly not something an ordinary person could train.

So what did they want from him? That was the crucial thing Huo Hai needed to learn.

If the Four Great Families were behind this, what should he do? What if it was the Imperial Clan, or several Lineages working together? What had drawn their attention to him? Huo Hai wanted answers to all of it.

At least for now, Huo Hai still lacked the strength to face the Four Great Families. That would change only if his Star Gu advanced a level, or if he found higher-grade insects and refined a stronger generation of Star Gu. Insects resembling Star Gu simply did not occur in nature.

Worried that the talkative fellow ahead might also be willing to die rather than talk, Huo Hai could only watch him carefully. He even had Little Butterfly relay every word the man said. At the same time, Huo Hai used the opportunity to teach her.

Little Butterfly was fairly intelligent. With proper teaching, she should be able to understand a great deal, which would make her much easier to work with. Huo Hai hoped to raise her into a commander who could one day coordinate every insect under his control in battle.

And so Huo Hai walked along reading, glancing now and then at the people behind him. He kept to the main road. The roads around Imperial City Academy ran in every direction and were crowded with travelers. For two days, his pursuers found no good chance to strike. Letting Huo Hai escape would be bad, but being seen by others would be just as bad.
