Background / History

Huo Hai originally lived on Earth as a kind but unemployed young man. After his girlfriend left him for a wealthy older man, he became bitter toward the idea that goodness would be rewarded. He was killed in a traffic accident after suppressing his instinct to help an elderly man, then swore that, if granted another life, he would become a “scourge” rather than a good person. 1

Before his death, he had memorized an old book left by his Earth grandmother, who knew methods of Gu raising, insect feeding, acupoints, and true-qi circulation. He had never successfully practiced its methods on Earth because he believed spiritual energy did not exist there. 1

His soul reincarnated into the body of another Huo Hai in the Spirit Realm Continent. The original Huo Hai had been killed when a Spirit Blood Realm Thunderbolt Rat shattered his soul during an attempt to capture it as a birthday gift for his grandmother. The Earth-born Huo Hai merged with the remaining soul fragments and memories, accepted the Huo Family as his own, and vowed to protect them and avenge the original owner. 2

To conceal his changed identity and incomplete memories, Huo Hai claimed amnesia caused by the Thunderbolt Rat’s lightning. He then began cultivating immediately, discovering that his new body absorbed spiritual energy at an extraordinary rate. 3

Huo Hai’s early objective was to become sufficiently strong and independent that neither great Lineages nor the Southern Cloud Kingdom could dictate his future. Although he initially viewed the Huo Family chiefly as a place where his close relatives could live safely, his resources, reputation, and protection gradually transformed it into a major power. 95 1102

His subsequent travels carry him from the Southern Nations into the Ink Lotus Domain, Heavenly Soul Domain, Central Domain, and Southern Region. Through his discoveries, he opens a passage between the Heavenly Soul and Central Domains, enabling the Celestial Star Sect to incorporate the Huo Family and eventually occupy the Heavenly Soul Domain. 1477 1484

Personality

Huo Hai repeatedly calls himself a future villain, but the identity is largely a reaction to the failures of his former life. He remains unable to mistreat servants, ignore abuse, or abandon people in danger; his decision to save Ji Mu despite wanting to remain hidden demonstrates that his compassion survives beneath the rhetoric. 4 25

He is cautious, secretive, and highly pragmatic. He conceals his transmigration, hides the true nature of his Gu insects, refuses to reveal their refinement method even to his family, and prefers preparation, reconnaissance, and indirect action over open confrontation. 3 10 43

Huo Hai is deeply protective of the people he accepts as family, particularly Huo Yuner. Her kidnapping provokes an extreme killing intent, though he still investigates the warehouse methodically rather than blindly entering the trap. 47 50

Killing affects him severely. His first human kill leaves him vomiting and horrified, while repeated slaughter during the Southern Mountain trial drives him into dangerous bloodlust and “war syndrome.” He actively seeks ways to restrain himself, including severing his feedback from the Star Gu during attacks and relying on Ji Mu’s intervention. 23 32 35 36

Repeated combat gradually leaves Huo Hai calmer and more detached around violence, though not indiscriminately cruel. He is ruthless toward enemies who threaten his family, but he can restrain his strength, cripple rather than kill opponents, or avoid conflict when another person’s political circumstances require it. 62 646

He is intensely perfectionistic in cultivation. Huo Hai repeatedly delays easy advances, rejects shortcuts that could damage his foundation, and seeks to complete every stage—from Spirit Veins and Star Cores to Law Radiance and Inner World development—as fully as possible. 561 1126 1447

Southern Mountain and Bloodlust

Huo Family Turmoil

Huo Hai conceals the Star Gu by allowing outsiders to believe he possesses a powerful concealed-weapon technique. His public trial success attracts alliances, marriage proposals, internal jealousy, and attempts to steal his supposed secret technique. 43

When Huo Yuner is abducted, Huo Hai secretly leaves the Huo Family compound, discovers that the kidnappers intended to kill both of them with explosive Spirit Stones, and destroys the mercenaries involved. Huo Hai’s reputation and resources allow the Huo Family to establish the South Sea Kingdom, absorb former Southern Forest and Southern Cloud Kingdom territories, and later relocate its main branch to the Ink Lotus Domain. After the Vast Earth Empire attacks Huo Hai despite his role in saving people during the war against the Medicine King Sect, he resolves to destroy it. Huo Hai liberates members of the Sea Anemone Tribe from the Hidden Assassins, develops a sibling-like bond with Xiao Kui, and uses the tribe’s trust to secure Floating Cloud Isle as a future Huo Family base.
