Spirit Blood Realm 13 Breaks through by circulating spiritual energy into and through his blood vessels, gaining more than tenfold physical strength. 13

Background / History

Huo Hai originally lived on Earth as a kind but unemployed young man. After his girlfriend left him for a wealthy older man, he became bitter toward the idea that goodness would be rewarded. He was killed in a traffic accident after suppressing his instinct to help an elderly man, then swore that, if granted another life, he would become a “scourge” rather than a good person. 1

Before his death, he had memorized an old book left by his Earth grandmother, who knew methods of Gu raising, insect feeding, acupoints, and true-qi circulation. He had never successfully practiced its methods on Earth because he believed spiritual energy did not exist there. 1

His soul reincarnated into the body of another Huo Hai in the Spirit Realm Continent. The original Huo Hai had been killed when a Spirit Blood Realm Thunderbolt Rat shattered his soul during an attempt to capture it as a birthday gift for his grandmother. The Earth-born Huo Hai merged with the remaining soul fragments and memories, accepted the Huo Family as his own, and vowed to protect them and avenge the original owner. 2

To conceal his changed identity and incomplete memories, Huo Hai claimed amnesia caused by the Thunderbolt Rat’s lightning. He then began cultivating immediately, discovering that his new body absorbed spiritual energy at an extraordinary rate. 3

Personality

Huo Hai repeatedly calls himself a future villain, but the identity is largely a reaction to the failures of his former life. He remains unable to mistreat servants, ignore abuse, or abandon people in danger; his decision to save Ji Mu despite wanting to remain hidden demonstrates that his compassion survives beneath the rhetoric. 4 25

He is cautious, secretive, and highly pragmatic. He conceals his transmigration, hides the true nature of his Gu insects, refuses to reveal their refinement method even to his family, and prefers preparation, reconnaissance, and indirect action over open confrontation. 3 10 43

Huo Hai is deeply protective of the people he accepts as family, particularly Huo Yuner. Her kidnapping provokes an extreme killing intent, though he still investigates the warehouse methodically rather than blindly entering the trap. 47 50

Killing affects him severely. His first human kill leaves him vomiting and horrified, while repeated slaughter during the Southern Mountain trial drives him into dangerous bloodlust and “war syndrome.” He actively seeks ways to restrain himself, including severing his feedback from the Star Gu during attacks and relying on Ji Mu’s intervention. 23 32 35 36

Abilities & Skills

Gu Refinement and Insect Command

Huo Hai combines his Earth grandmother’s Gu techniques with the Spirit Realm’s spiritual energy. He uses blood to establish master-servant bonds and spiritual energy to rapidly nourish, evolve, and control his insects. 8 9

  • Refined Little Gold, a golden winged centipede Gu created from venomous, armored, and flying insect stock. 8 9
  • Refined more than five hundred Star Gu, beetle-like swarm insects controlled through their king, Little Star. 19 21
  • Uses Gu insects for reconnaissance, theft, tunneling, tracking, corpse disposal, and resource collection. 10 21 24
  • Commands the Star Gu as assassins capable of piercing throats, attacking brains through nostrils, and overwhelming Spirit Bone Realm beasts through numbers and anatomy-based tactics. 25 29
  • Can form a Star Gu shield that intercepts arrows and consumes physical weapons such as throwing knives. 26 35
  • Little Gold’s venom can kill a Spirit Practitioner Realm Ironclad Hound King when used through surprise and careful preparation. 38 39
  • The Star Gu expend large amounts of stored energy when resisting lightning, spiritual power, or elemental attacks. Their limited intelligence also allows well-concealed human ambushes to escape detection. 24 34
  • Huo Hai recognizes that his insects are external tools whose growth and ultimate potential remain dependent on his own cultivation. 38

Perfect Foundation Establishment

Huo Hai refuses an ordinary cultivation path and pursues the Three Foundation Formations, an expensive sequence intended to perfect the body, bloodline, and bones. 16

  • Completed the Body-Refining Spirit Formation in secret using two hundred stolen Body Tempering Pills and Spirit Stones. 12
  • Achieved a Perfect Spirit Body, allowing continuous natural absorption of spiritual energy and exceptionally high compatibility with it. 12 13
  • His spiritual veins were found to be abnormally open, while a crystal-ball test produced an exceptionally bright cyan light. 15
  • Deliberately suppresses advancement into the Spirit Bone Realm until he can perform the Blood Tempering Spirit Formation. 19
  • Seeks Blood Refining Pills and Bone Tempering Pills through Imperial City Academy points to continue perfecting his foundation. 21 40

Combat Training

Although initially inexperienced in real combat, Huo Hai studies foundational fist, palm, and leg techniques and improves rapidly through his perfected body. 16 17

  • His technical fighting ability surpasses that of most Spirit Blood Realm cultivators before he gains meaningful battlefield experience. 17
  • Uses spiritual power to reinforce his body before reaching the Spirit Practitioner Realm. 19
  • Learns through Southern Mountain that training alone does not prevent hesitation under lethal pressure. 23
  • Uses Fang Howler fangs and bone spines as improvised short weapons after the Star Gu kill the beast. 29

Memory and Observation

Huo Hai retains knowledge from Earth while carrying fragments of the original Huo Hai’s memories. His research-oriented approach makes him unusually methodical in studying unfamiliar insects, herbs, venoms, and medicinal properties. 2 7 8

  • Records insect observations in Chinese characters, both to preserve his Earth identity and to keep his notes unreadable to others. 8
  • Memorizes an entire introductory Spirit Art almost instantly. 16
  • Applies practical anatomical knowledge to kill stronger enemies by exploiting vulnerabilities rather than relying on direct force. 28 29

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Profound Grade dagger — weapon given by Huo Kai for the Imperial City Academy trial; normally suitable for Spirit Practitioner Realm users. 19
  • Grass Gu cage — waist-worn container used to conceal the Star Gu swarm without placing the insects inside his body. 21
  • Gu-insect pouch — used to carry and hide Little Gold during travel and registration. 20
  • Fang Howler fangs and bone spines — retained after the Spirit Bone Realm beast’s death for use as makeshift short weapons. 29
  • Imperial City Academy card — blood-bound identification and point-storage card received upon admission. 41
  • Explosive Spirit Stones — Huo Hai recovered more than ten thousand from the warehouse trap intended to kill him and Huo Yuner. 50

Relationships

  • Huo Kai — father and Huo Family Lineage Head; strict about Huo Hai’s foundation and suspicious of his rapid advancement, but fiercely protective of his future. 2 14 15
  • Huo Family grandmother — doting grandmother whose ninetieth birthday led the original Huo Hai to confront the Thunderbolt Rat; she remains deeply worried over his injuries and memory loss. 2 3
  • Earth grandmother — source of the Gu-raising book and the insect-cultivation knowledge Huo Hai adapts in the Spirit Realm. 1 6
  • Huo Yuner — younger Huo Family relative whom Huo Hai treats as a sister; she helps feed Little Gold, receives the academy recommendation slot he relinquishes, and becomes his greatest emotional vulnerability. 9 18 47
  • Little Gold / Xiao Jin — Huo Hai’s golden centipede Gu; a loyal scout, thief, poison user, and companion capable of sensing his distress. 9 14 38
  • Little Star — king of the Star Gu swarm; formed through a blood-and-spiritual-energy ritual and serves as Huo Hai’s means of commanding the swarm. 19 20
  • Ji Mu — ally and increasingly close companion during the Southern Mountain trial; she supports Huo Hai through war syndrome and repeatedly restrains his bloodlust. 26 32 35
  • He Ya — arrogant He Family rival whose insults and careless boasting first lead Huo Hai to steal the He Family’s Body Tempering Pills. 7 9 10
  • He Wang — He Family Third Young Master and recurring enemy; Huo Hai foils his attempt to seize Ji Mu and later survives his ambushes. 25 35
  • Huo Yan — resentful Huo Family member who covets status, hates Huo Hai’s direct-line position, and is implicated in arranging the trap involving Huo Yuner. 18 47

Reincarnation and Integration

After dying on Earth, Huo Hai reincarnates into the Huo Family heir’s body, merges with the original owner’s remaining soul fragments, and uses supposed amnesia to protect his secret. Imperial City Academy Trial

Huo Hai gives up the Huo Family’s recommendation slot so Huo Yuner can receive it, choosing instead to enter Imperial City Academy through the Southern Mountain trial. He builds the Star Gu swarm, accumulates 17,352 point cards, and gains admission alongside Ji Mu. 18 19 41 42

Southern Mountain and Bloodlust

During the trial, Huo Hai experiences his first kills, saves Ji Mu from He Wang, destroys hostile mercenaries, defeats a Fang Howler and an Ironclad Hound pack, and struggles to avoid becoming addicted to slaughter. Ji Mu becomes essential to restoring his self-control. 23 25 29 32 38

Huo Family Turmoil

Huo Hai conceals the Star Gu by allowing outsiders to believe he possesses a powerful concealed-weapon technique. His public trial success attracts alliances, marriage proposals, internal jealousy, and attempts to steal his supposed secret technique. 43

When Huo Yuner is abducted, Huo Hai secretly leaves the Huo Family compound, discovers that the kidnappers intended to kill both of them with explosive Spirit Stones, and destroys the mercenaries involved.
