An army of three hundred thousand might have seemed enormous, but Huo Hai had consumed a great many mangled corpses while creating motes of death spiritual power. Those consumed corpses alone had numbered roughly a hundred thousand.
Even so, heaps of corpses still lay on the ground, unused. It was not that Huo Hai did not want to use them; he had simply exhausted his supply of death spiritual power. With no other choice, he continued channeling his own spiritual power, consuming damaged corpses to create more motes of death spiritual power. The Demon Spirit Masters and Demonfolk along this route had all been dealt with by Star Gu.
As a result, despite everything that had happened overnight, not a single Demon Spirit Master had noticed anything wrong. Time slipped by, and before long, dawn arrived. Looking at the Undead Army before him, Huo Hai counted nearly five hundred thousand in total.
Most were corpses left behind by ordinary humans, with some Demonfolk corpses among them. A tiny fraction of the remainder were actually the corpses of Spirit Beasts and Magic Beasts. Perhaps these creatures had originally lived nearby.
When another Demon Spirit Master unit transported troops toward the front early that morning, they finally discovered something amiss midway through their journey. "This is bad! An Undead Army! It's Huo Hai! Hurry, send a distress signal!" The sight left their leader aghast. After issuing the order, he scrambled desperately to flee back the way he had come. Unfortunately, Huo Hai had already spotted them.
Before they could do anything, Star Gu swooped down and slaughtered them all in an instant. Every one of them died in a single strike. "Fine materials." Huo Hai smiled faintly. Whether Demon Spirit Masters or Demonfolk, both made stronger Undead than ordinary humans did.
