History

Hu Donghan acquired the ghost as an ordinary Mortal Ghost after his expedition to Lonely Soul Ridge. Although disappointed by its white Ghost-Spirit Light and limited apparent potential, he discovered that it possessed an Attribute-less Soul Body—an essential prerequisite for cultivating a Medicine Spirit Ghost. 13 15 16

After forming a Soul List, Hu Donghan bound a portion of the ghost’s soul to it and began the three-stage Medicine Spirit Ghost cultivation process: nourishing the soul, changing the body, and solidifying the form. He fed it Wandering Souls until it reached its absorption limit, then bought a Ghost Spirit Herb to provide the medicinal fragrance necessary for body transformation. 17 18 31

Hu Donghan extracted the ghost’s yin qi and ghost qi to convert the Ghost Spirit Herb into medicinal fragrance, preserved a trace of its soul within the Soul List, and ordered its Soul Body to disperse and reform. The process created a small, thin Ghost Wraith with the former herb growing from its head. 32

The newly formed ghost immediately attempted to resist Hu Donghan’s control and pleaded for release. In response, Hu Donghan used the Soul List to erase its intelligence, leaving it an obedient puppet. He then sustained it in a Soul-Forming Ground using the energy from destroyed Wandering Souls until its Soul Body fully solidified. 33 34

At Little Jade Flat, Hu Donghan concealed its true identity by presenting it as a rare Medicinal-Scent Ghost. Its herb-cultivation results allowed him to exceed the field’s monthly quota, draw Earthfire Hall’s interest, and enter the hall as a pill-refining disciple. 37 43 47 48 50

Appearance

The Medicine Spirit Ghost is a thin humanoid Ghost Wraith whose defining feature is a Ghost Spirit Herb-like growth emerging from its head. Its Soul Body grew from child-sized at formation to roughly Hu Donghan’s height after solidification. 32 34

  • Its Ghost-Spirit Light is green, marking it as a Low-Grade Ghost Demon. 33
  • The herb on its forehead can detach and spread a medicinal-scented yin aura across a medicine field. 40
  • Its Soul Body contains dense yin qi and can independently absorb ambient yin qi and ghost qi after solidification. 34
  • Its public “Medicinal-Scent Ghost” identity is based partly on its unusual herb-topped appearance. 47 48

Nature and Intelligence

The ghost initially developed emotional awareness during its transformation, communicating fear, pain, gratitude, anticipation, and eventually a desire to escape Hu Donghan’s control. 17 33

Hu Donghan regarded this independence as unacceptable and erased its intelligence through the Soul List. It thereafter follows commands instinctively, without hesitation or independent judgment. 33 42

Abilities & Skills

Spirit-Herb Cultivation

A Medicine Spirit Ghost naturally enhances spirit-herb growth within an area determined by its strength.

  • Its inherent effect doubles the growth rate of nearby spirit herbs; focused cultivation can theoretically accelerate selected herbs by up to thirty times if it has sufficient yin energy. 16
  • During its first field test, it spread medicinal-scented yin aura across roughly one mu of land. 40
  • It could maintain that effect for roughly four shichen before further use threatened to damage its Soul Body. 40
  • Six-Section Grass within its field grew at approximately two and a half times the normal rate over a two-day observation period. 43
  • Its controlled area increased by two fen after one month of cultivation. 43
  • Its aura also reduced herb losses from weeds, pests, disease, and similar cultivation hazards at Little Jade Flat. 43

Yin Aura Generation

The Ghost Spirit Herb on its head releases the medicinal-scented yin aura responsible for its agricultural effects.

  • The herb detaches from its forehead and settles among the crops while the aura spreads outward. 40
  • The aura consumes substantial yin energy; direct consumption of Wandering Souls was initially inefficient and impurity-prone. 40
  • Approximately 150 Wandering Souls were estimated to restore its depleted aura, while uninterrupted full-strength use could require more than 300 per day. 40
  • It must spend at least half a shichen converting newly absorbed energy into usable special-effect yin aura. 40

Ghost Wraith Restaurant

Hu Donghan modified its Soul-Forming Ground into a feeding area nicknamed the “Ghost Wraith Restaurant.”

  • Its soul force attacks and purifies Wandering Souls, turning them into refined yin energy and ghost energy. 42
  • The facility can process approximately four Soul Rings of Wandering Souls at once. 42
  • The Medicine Spirit Ghost requires roughly one hundred Wandering Souls for a full meal. 42
  • The purified energy supports both its feeding and continued cultivation. 42

Profound Yin Heart Method and Spells

Hu Donghan taught the Medicine Spirit Ghost the Profound Yin Heart Method and two basic spells.

  • It cultivates the Profound Yin Heart Method when not tending herbs or feeding. 42
  • After one month, it had reached the peak of Qi Refining First Layer under the method. 43
  • It became proficient in the two spells taught by Hu Donghan after developing spiritual power. 43
  • Its advancement remains constrained by Hu Donghan’s own cultivation level. 43

Spirit Liquid Condensation

A Medicine Spirit Ghost can condense spirit liquid bearing the effects of a selected spirit medicine according to its realm and cultivation. Such liquid may be consumed directly or used in alchemy. 16

Pill Refinement

A Medicine Spirit Ghost can refine pills if provided a suitable pill formula, medicinal ingredients, and pill furnace.

  • Its initial refinement success rate may be low but improves through repeated refinement. 16
  • Hu Donghan sought access to Earthfire Hall specifically to obtain formulas, a pill furnace, and spirit fire for this purpose. 44 50
  • No completed pill refinement by the ghost is documented.

Limitations

  • It was originally a Mortal Ghost, a grade with limited natural growth potential; Hu Donghan’s transformation method elevated it to a Low-Grade Ghost Demon. 13 33
  • Intensive herb cultivation rapidly drains its yin aura and can damage its Soul Body if continued past its limit. 40
  • Its capabilities depend on a continuing supply of Wandering Souls and a stable yin-energy environment. 33 40 42
  • Hu Donghan’s forced erasure of its intelligence made it completely obedient, but unable to act creatively or manage itself independently. 33 42
  • Its true identity and effects are concealed because its growth acceleration would attract unwanted attention. 40 47

Relationships

  • Hu Donghan — Master and creator; bound the ghost to his Soul List, transformed it from a Mortal Ghost, erased its intelligence, and uses it as a cultivation resource and agricultural tool 17 32 33 42.
  • Lang Tianya — Indirect supplier; regularly provides Wandering Souls used to nourish and sustain the Medicine Spirit Ghost 31 34 41.
  • Niu Ergen — Trusted subordinate who guards the Small Medicine Field and keeps Hu Donghan’s ghost-related activities secret 39 41.
  • Wang Ruolong — Inspected the ghost’s herb-growing effect after Hu Donghan presented it under the Medicinal-Scent Ghost cover identity 47.
  • Heaven-Seizing Ancestor — Examined the ghost and recognized that its herb-growth enhancement greatly exceeded surviving records for Medicinal-Scent Ghosts 48.

Trivia

  • The Medicine Spirit Ghost was created from the Ghost Spirit Herb that remains visibly fused into its Soul Body. 31 32
  • Hu Donghan possesses two Soul Lists, allowing him to eventually control two Soul Bodies of the same type; he plans to cultivate a second Medicine Spirit Ghost when his resources permit it. 16 17 34
  • Hu Donghan’s public claim that it is a Medicinal-Scent Ghost is plausible because such ghosts are rare and poorly documented within the Yin Soul Sect. 47
