History

Hu Donghan acquired the ghost as an ordinary Mortal Ghost after his expedition to Lonely Soul Ridge. Although disappointed by its white Ghost-Spirit Light and limited apparent potential, he discovered that it possessed an Attribute-less Soul Body—an essential prerequisite for cultivating a Medicine Spirit Ghost. 13 15 16

After forming a Soul List, Hu Donghan bound a portion of the ghost’s soul to it and began the three-stage Medicine Spirit Ghost cultivation process: nourishing the soul, changing the body, and solidifying the form. He fed it Wandering Souls until it reached its absorption limit, then bought a Ghost Spirit Herb to provide the medicinal fragrance necessary for body transformation. 17 18 31

Hu Donghan extracted the ghost’s yin qi and ghost qi to convert the Ghost Spirit Herb into medicinal fragrance, preserved a trace of its soul within the Soul List, and ordered its Soul Body to disperse and reform. The process created a small, thin Ghost Wraith with the former herb growing from its head. 32

The newly formed ghost immediately attempted to resist Hu Donghan’s control and pleaded for release. In response, Hu Donghan used the Soul List to erase its intelligence, leaving it an obedient puppet. He then sustained it in a Soul-Forming Ground using the energy from destroyed Wandering Souls until its Soul Body fully solidified. 33 34

At Little Jade Flat, Hu Donghan concealed its true identity by presenting it as a rare Medicinal-Scent Ghost. Its herb-cultivation results allowed him to exceed the field’s monthly quota, draw Earthfire Hall’s interest, and enter the hall as a pill-refining disciple. 37 43 47 48 50

Appearance

The Medicine Spirit Ghost is a thin humanoid Ghost Wraith whose defining feature is a Ghost Spirit Herb-like growth emerging from its head. Its Soul Body grew from child-sized at formation to roughly Hu Donghan’s height after solidification. 32 34

• Its Ghost-Spirit Light is green, marking it as a Low-Grade Ghost Demon. 33
• The herb on its forehead can detach and spread a medicinal-scented yin aura across a medicine field. 40

Nature and Intelligence

The ghost initially developed emotional awareness during its transformation, communicating fear, pain, gratitude, anticipation, and eventually a desire to escape Hu Donghan’s control. 17 33

Hu Donghan regarded this independence as unacceptable and erased its intelligence through the Soul List. It thereafter follows commands instinctively, without hesitation or independent judgment. 33 42

Spirit-Herb Cultivation

A Medicine Spirit Ghost naturally enhances spirit-herb growth within an area determined by its strength.

• Its inherent effect doubles the growth rate of nearby spirit herbs; focused cultivation can theoretically accelerate selected herbs by up to thirty times if it has sufficient yin energy. 16
• During its first field test, it spread medicinal-scented yin aura across roughly one mu of land. 40
• It could maintain that effect for roughly four shichen before further use threatened to damage its Soul Body. 40
