Background
Early life and fear of Pokémon
Lillie’s fear of Pokémon originated in childhood, when Nihilego emerged from an Ultra Wormhole and attacked her. Her father, Mohn, protected her and disappeared into the wormhole, while the incident contributed to Lusamine’s eventual emotional collapse. Lillie later recovered these memories after Flutter Mane forced her to relive the trauma. 245
Despite her academic knowledge, Lillie initially regarded herself as incapable of becoming either a Trainer or a useful researcher. After failing her practical Trainer examination, she isolated herself during a snowy evening and found an injured Tandemaus beneath a bridge. She overcame her terror long enough to save it from falling into the sea, but froze afterward until Xingye found her. 44
Joining Odd Jobs
Lillie’s rescue of the Tandemaus led her to Kabukicho and Xingye’s Odd Jobs business. There, she saw Pokémon living as workers, friends, and customers rather than as frightening unknown creatures. Inspired by Xingye’s work helping Pokémon, she asked to join Odd Jobs; although Xingye initially rejected her because of her phobia, he accepted her as a trial assistant after she offered to contribute her knowledge instead. 45 46
She became an official Odd Jobs member after explaining that she wanted to stop living passively under others’ protection. Her initial duties included discreetly promoting the organization’s website, which she later reorganized and improved herself. 52 55
During Xingye’s three-month absence, Lillie managed Odd Jobs almost alone. She taught herself Pokémon language, handled commissions, accepted financial losses when jobs failed, and remodeled the office in a distinctly pink, personal style. 187 188
Growth as a Trainer
An Alolan Vulpix hatched into Lillie’s arms shortly after she joined Odd Jobs, becoming the first major step in confronting her fear. She later trained under Nemona, developed her practical battle instincts, and earned her first Gym Badge after defeating Kofu. 52 89 92
Lillie trained specifically to challenge her idol, Cynthia. Although Cynthia decisively defeated her Scream Tail, Lillie used Light Screen, Sunny Day, Play Rough, and Scream Tail’s unusual singing to create genuine openings against Garchomp. The defeat clarified the gap she still needed to overcome. 114 120
Her Junior Cup run marked a major shift in her battle style. Against Nemona, she abandoned an overly defensive approach and commanded Scream Tail aggressively enough to advance to the final. Though Xingye defeated her for the championship, Eevee evolved into Sylveon after refusing to surrender for her sake. 200
Conflict with Lusamine
Lillie’s relationship with Lusamine was defined by fear, love, and resentment. Lusamine monitored her, treated obedience as proof of happiness, and repeatedly insisted that control and punishment were expressions of maternal love. 115 135 211
When Lusamine attempted to use Nihilego to make Lillie obedient, Lillie finally resisted openly. With Scream Tail’s help, she escaped Aether Paradise’s underground facilities, discovered Lusamine’s collection of frozen Pokémon, and freed the captive Cosmog she named Little Nebula. 211
Unable to return home safely, Lillie accepted Xingye’s offer to live at Odd Jobs. She chose the guest room beside his and asked him to stop addressing her as “young lady,” marking her decision to be treated as an independent person rather than as someone to be managed. 213
Relationship with Xingye
Lillie and Xingye began as awkward classmates whose shared concern for Pokémon gradually became trust, partnership, and emotional dependence. Xingye helped her confront Pokémon, while Lillie gave Odd Jobs stability, organization, and a sense of home. 44 52 188
After the Junior Cup, Lillie admitted that Xingye’s care had given her the feeling of an ordinary family. She began resisting Lusamine’s control by declining her mother’s call and choosing her own happiness. 200
Following the Necrozma crisis, Lillie confessed that Xingye was her “sun” and kissed him. Xingye reciprocated her feelings and formally asked her to become his girlfriend. 286
Aura and later adventures
Lillie awakened Aura while fighting Jarvis’s forces in the Azoth Kingdom. She used it to connect with Pikachu, Magearna, and Diancie, freeing Diancie from control and helping the newly transformed Diancie defeat Mega Diancie with Continental Crush. 338
Though she initially struggled to control the ability and repeatedly collapsed from overuse, she developed Aura Synchronization with Diancie. This allowed her to sense opponents, direct Diancie’s diamond weapons mentally, and exploit narrow tactical openings. 339 393 397
Lillie later fought independently against Zinnia and Dark Matter in Mossdeep City. She protected Whismur, rejected Zinnia’s belief that only one “protagonist” matters, and triggered Diancie’s unique Mega Evolution through the Rainbow Meteorite Fragments. 370
Appearance
Lillie has emerald eyes and long hair that she commonly wears in a single ponytail. She favors soft pink clothing and decorations; her room and later Odd Jobs remodel both reflected this preference. 341 188
- Ties her hair into a ponytail when she has resolved herself to stake everything on a task. 414
- Wore a pink-and-white cherry-blossom kimono during Kitakami’s Festival of Masks. 334
- Wore a light-pink skirt-style swimsuit with a white gauze top during a beach outing. 234
- Is notably self-conscious when others comment on her appearance, especially Xingye. 120 234
Personality
Lillie is compassionate, conscientious, and unusually sensitive to Pokémon suffering. Her first defining act in the story is rescuing an injured Tandemaus despite being terrified of Pokémon, and she later risks herself to free Pokémon imprisoned by Lusamine and Jarvis. 44 211 338
She initially lacked confidence and relied excessively on memorized battle theory. Repeated battles taught her to adapt under pressure, make independent decisions, and accept that growth requires risk rather than perfect preparation. 89 120 200
Lillie remains gentle even when confronting enemies. Her compassion is also a tactical strength: she protected Whismur rather than treating it as an obstacle, and her faith helped it resist Dark Matter’s influence. 370
She is capable of jealousy and possessiveness where Xingye is concerned, but expresses these feelings directly rather than denying them. She considers herself his girlfriend, assistant, companion, family, and emotional support. 341 370
Abilities & Skills
Pokémon knowledge and language
Lillie possesses extensive theoretical Pokémon knowledge and originally sought to contribute to Odd Jobs as an assistant rather than a field worker.
- Uses her research knowledge to advise on Pokémon care and Odd Jobs commissions. 46 52
- Learned Pokémon language from scratch while managing Odd Jobs. 188
- Continues studying communication so she can better serve Pokémon clients. 210
- Her knowledge alone was initially insufficient in live battles; she needed experience to apply it flexibly. 89
Trainer tactics
Lillie developed from a defensive, theory-focused battler into a tactical Trainer capable of exploiting terrain, weather, timing, and opponent psychology.
- Uses defensive and field-control techniques such as Light Screen, Aurora Veil, Snow Warning, Sunny Day, and status effects. 116 120 200
- Identifies type weaknesses and coordinates doubles strategies effectively, such as protecting Gengar with Light Screen while directing Scream Tail’s ranged attacks. 116
- Can disrupt opponents psychologically; she destabilized Bede before sweeping his team. 397
- Has defeated Elite Four members Brassius, Poppy, Larry, and Hassel during her Champion assessment. 428 429
- Her early tendency to overcommit in close combat and defensive play remains a lesson she consciously works to overcome. 120 200
Aura
Lillie awakened Aura during the Azoth Kingdom operation and developed it into a central part of her Trainer style.
- Senses targets and identifies concealed opponents, including Greninja’s true body among its afterimages. 341
- Synchronizes her consciousness with Diancie to direct diamond weapons with exceptional precision. 393 397
- Used Aura to communicate encouragement to Whismur and reinforce its resistance to Dark Matter. 370
- Aura use is physically taxing; excessive use has caused her to collapse or lose the ability to maintain it during battle. 339 341
Z-Power and Mega Evolution
Lillie uses both Z-Power and Mega Evolution, often combining them with Aura-based coordination.
- Owns a custom pink Z-Ring developed by Xingye. 239
- Successfully attempted a Psychium Z-Move with Little Nebula; the resulting energy resonance opened a spatial fissure resembling an Ultra Wormhole. 245
- Used Little Nebula’s Searing Sunraze Smash to defeat corrupted Zamazenta in Ultra Space. 412
- Mega Evolves Diancie through her Key Stone; later activated Diancie’s unique Mega Evolution using Rainbow Meteorite Fragments. 370 393
