Background / History

Di Tian is an ancient Beast God who has lived for countless ages. He remembers the standing of the Nine Dragon Kings and recognizes the decline of the Dragon Clan following their deaths in the Dragon God’s war. Despite his own exceptional strength, he remains subject to heavenly tribulations and cannot overcome the prohibition on Soul Beasts attaining godhood directly 7 8.

He serves the recovering Silver Dragon King beneath the Lake of Life and commands the forest’s core Ferocious Beasts. Da Ming and Er Ming guard the lake under his orders, including an explicit prohibition against revealing the hidden master’s existence 6 9.

Appearance

In human form, Di Tian is tall and imposing, with a handsome but dignified face, long black hair, and deep, unfathomable eyes. Even while standing casually, he radiates overwhelming power 7.

  • Clothing: Black robes 7.
  • True form: A massive, winged Golden-Eyed Black Dragon 75.
  • Dragon features: Hard black scales, blade-like claws, golden vertical pupils, and blue patterns between the scales; Wukong reproduces these features exactly through Seventy-Two Transformations 75.

Personality

Di Tian is cautious, authoritative, and deeply invested in the survival of the Soul Beast race. He initially treats Wukong’s ambition to become a god as unrealistic, but changes his judgment when the monkey demonstrates resolve, legitimate recognition from the Dragon Kings, and practical means of concealing his identity after Transformation 7 8.

His mentorship combines protection with demanding expectations. He quietly shields Wukong from the Ferocious Beasts’ discouragement, yet insists that cultivation must be tested through combat. During Wukong’s fight with Golden Lion, he prevents Scarlet King from intervening because constant protection would hinder her growth 11 48 49.

As trust develops, Di Tian becomes an affectionate, teasing elder. He jokes about Wukong’s frequent requests and impatience, respects his private advantages, and does not investigate the Twin Dragon Staff further once assured that Wukong remains loyal to their race 45 46 80.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Accepting Wukong

Da Ming brings Di Tian the Ice-Fire Twin Dragon Staff, whose origins immediately draw his attention. Although initially disappointed by Wukong’s sub-hundred-thousand-year cultivation and lack of Dragon Clan blood, he accepts the staff’s exclusive bond as proof that the Dragon Kings willingly chose the monkey 7.

Wukong’s plan to transform into a human and pursue godhood persuades Di Tian to consider supporting him. After securing the Silver Dragon King’s approval, he admits Wukong to the sanctuary, defends his place among the Ferocious Beasts, and grants him a share of Tian Meng’s origin 8 9 10 11.

Cultivation Mentor and Benefactor

Di Tian approves Wukong’s combat-based cultivation and comes to admire his relentless training. He warns him about the Heavenly Tribulation, supports his breakthrough, and respects his continued decision to transform after surviving it 11 13 14 16.

After Transformation, he promises resources for Wukong’s Body Martial Soul and places him under Da Ming and Er Ming’s protection. On Wukong’s return, Di Tian personally guides Life Gold refinement and arranges a spar with Golden Lion to test his new strength 17 46 48.

Origin Replication and Wukong’s Elevation

Di Tian sacrifices nearly ten thousand years of cultivation to provide the origin needed for Wukong’s first Golden-Eyed Black Dragon transformation. Its successful replication of his bloodline and darkness attribute strengthens his belief in Wukong’s potential 74 75.

When Wukong also reproduces Auspicious Beast authority and stacks its enhancement through clones, Di Tian recognizes the implications for the entire race. He announces the Silver Dragon King’s decrees granting Wukong the Twin Dragon Kings’ origins, status equal to the Imperial Auspicious Beast, and a dedicated guardian. He selects Zi Ji for that duty 76 77.

Return to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

Di Tian transports Wukong to Sunset Forest and offers to eliminate Dugu Bo for occupying the treasured valley. He instead respects Wukong’s wish to settle their old conflict personally 77 78.

After Dugu Bo’s defeat, Di Tian accompanies Wukong to the Dragon Kings’ remains. He interprets the surviving True Spirits’ decision to enter the staff, explaining that a future Super Divine Artifact could nourish them toward a possible return. He subsequently plans to place the valley under Myriad Demon King’s people as a guarded medicinal garden 80 81 82.

Preparing for Greater Soul Rings

Di Tian continues supporting Wukong’s fifth Soul Ring and orders Er Ming to fight at full strength during its combat test. He remains nearby to guard Wukong afterward 98 99 100.

The Silver Dragon King authorizes him to offer Dragon Valley as a future source of opportunity. When Wukong proposes searching the Far North instead, Di Tian keeps that option in reserve, permits Tian Meng to accompany him, and offers the silkworm a conditional reprieve 100 101.
