Background / History

Death Spider Emperor

Fourth Sister originally possessed no personal name. After becoming a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, she inherited the racial imperial title of Death Spider Emperor. Wukong later named her Zhu Zhu and called her Fourth Sister, since she had once been the fourth child of her family; she accepted the nickname mainly because she preferred it to being called “Old Spider.” 13

Her first encounters with Wukong were hostile. They repeatedly fought in her poisonous territory, with Wukong using the battles to refine Sky Dream Ice Silkworm origin energy and improve his combat ability. Over time, their conflict became a familiar rivalry rather than a fight to the death. 12 13

Rivalry with Wukong

Although Fourth Sister continually insulted Wukong and tried to attack him, she accepted his warning that human Soul Masters would eventually target her Soul Ring. Wukong specifically advised her to seek Da Ming’s help if necessary, unable to bear the thought of her being hunted after their years of fighting. 13

Her concern for him emerged during his Hundred-Thousand-Year Heavenly Tribulation. She approached the Lake of Life despite the danger, then concealed her worry by claiming she had merely come to watch him die. 16

Wukong later returned to the forest for the New Year and gave her a custom silk scroll depicting her Death Spider Emperor form. Fourth Sister pretended the gift was only “barely acceptable,” but privately examined it repeatedly and admitted that Wukong had some conscience. 40

Spirit Hall Hunt and Transformation

Bibi Dong, Qian Xunji, Chrysanthemum Douluo, and Ghost Douluo eventually attacked Fourth Sister in order to obtain her as Bibi Dong’s ninth Soul Ring. Severely wounded by Qian Xunji’s Angelic Holy Sword and restrained by the Bipolar Stillness Domain, she prepared to self-destruct rather than be harvested. 54

Wukong intervened in Stone Monkey form, seized Bibi Dong as a hostage, and forced Spirit Hall to release Fourth Sister. Da Ming and Er Ming’s approach ultimately compelled Qian Xunji’s group to retreat. 54 56

Though her external injuries healed at the Lake of Life, the battle permanently damaged her origin and stopped her cultivation. Rather than remain trapped on a ruined Soul Beast path, Fourth Sister chose Transformation, trusting Wukong to protect her regardless of the vulnerable age at which she emerged. 57

She transformed at dawn into a three-year-old human girl. Wukong provided improvised clothes, then brought her from the Star Dou Great Forest to Dragon Rising City. 58 59

Life in Dragon Rising City

Fourth Sister moved into a two-courtyard residence with Wukong and Xiao Rou. As she cannot cultivate before awakening her martial soul, she focuses on learning literacy, human customs, and basic cultivation knowledge while Wukong strengthens her foundation with Century Whale Rubber and mild medicinal baths. 60 61 62

Appearance

Before Transformation, Fourth Sister was an enormous Death Spider Emperor whose territory was obscured by dense purple poisonous miasma. Her true form possessed eight long spider legs, spider spears, and armored body segments. 21 54

After Transformation, she became a delicate three-year-old girl with long silky black hair, fair skin, sharp heroic eyes, and an expression too proud for her childlike appearance. 58

Beneath this hostility, she is deeply loyal and emotionally vulnerable. Her concern for Wukong is usually expressed through denial, sarcasm, or threats of future revenge rather than direct affection. 14 16 21

She can also be pragmatic when lives are at stake. After her foundation was destroyed, she stopped Xiao Wu from pursuing Spirit Hall, recognizing that vengeance against multiple Titled Douluo would only cause further deaths. 57

Her decision to Transform revealed insecurity she normally hides: before the ritual, she privately asked Wukong what humans considered beautiful and sought reassurance about her future appearance. 57
