Death Spider Emperor

Fourth Sister originally possessed no personal name. After becoming a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, she inherited the racial imperial title of Death Spider Emperor. Wukong later named her Zhu Zhu and called her Fourth Sister, since she had once been the fourth child of her family; she accepted the nickname mainly because she preferred it to being called “Old Spider.” 13

Her first encounters with Wukong were hostile. They repeatedly fought in her poisonous territory, with Wukong using the battles to refine Sky Dream Ice Silkworm origin energy and improve his combat ability. Over time, their conflict became a familiar rivalry rather than a fight to the death. 12 13

Initially, she avoided the Lake of Life’s forbidden core region and feared its guardians. When Da Ming and Er Ming emerged during Wukong’s arrival, she withdrew rather than join the confrontation. Wukong subsequently exploited her reluctance to enter the core region when escaping their training battles. 6 12

Rivalry with Wukong

Although Fourth Sister continually insulted Wukong and tried to attack him, she accepted his warning that human Soul Masters would eventually target her Soul Ring. Wukong specifically advised her to seek Da Ming’s help if necessary, unable to bear the thought of her being hunted after their years of fighting. 13

Her concern for him emerged during his Hundred-Thousand-Year Heavenly Tribulation. She approached the Lake of Life despite the danger, then concealed her worry by claiming she had merely come to watch him die. 16

Wukong later returned to the forest for the New Year and gave her a custom silk scroll depicting her Death Spider Emperor form. Fourth Sister pretended the gift was only “barely acceptable,” but privately examined it repeatedly and admitted that Wukong had some conscience. 40

Their repeated chases also indirectly contributed to Wukong’s development of Somersault Cloud: his need to escape her helped him discover how to summon wind beneath his feet. 13

Spirit Hall Hunt and Transformation

Bibi Dong, Qian Xunji, Chrysanthemum Douluo, and Ghost Douluo eventually attacked Fourth Sister in order to obtain her as Bibi Dong’s ninth Soul Ring. Severely wounded by Qian Xunji’s Angelic Holy Sword and restrained by the Bipolar Stillness Domain, she prepared to self-destruct rather than be harvested. 54

Wukong intervened in Stone Monkey form, seized Bibi Dong as a hostage, and forced Spirit Hall to release Fourth Sister. Da Ming and Er Ming’s approach ultimately compelled Qian Xunji’s group to retreat. 54 56

Fourth Sister also fought Bibi Dong during the confrontation, leaving the latter with less than one-tenth of her Soul Power before Wukong subdued her again. Fourth Sister subsequently identified Bibi Dong’s attack as having damaged her foundation. 56

Though her external injuries healed at the Lake of Life, the battle permanently damaged her origin and stopped her cultivation. Rather than remain trapped on a ruined Soul Beast path, Fourth Sister chose Transformation, trusting Wukong to protect her regardless of the vulnerable age at which she emerged. 57

She had considered Transformation even before the hunt, doubting that her talent and bloodline would allow her to survive the Two-Hundred-Thousand-Year Tribulation. Wukong and Xiao Rou’s experiences persuaded her that cultivating anew offered more than a chance at godhood: it also allowed her to experience a different life and explore human society. 57

She transformed at dawn into a three-year-old human girl. Wukong provided improvised clothes, then brought her from the Star Dou Great Forest to Dragon Rising City. 58 59

Her fragile body required frequent stops for food and rest, extending their forest journey to five or six days. After reaching the forest’s edge, Wukong carried her into Dragon Rising City on his Somersault Cloud under cover of darkness. 59

Life in Dragon Rising City

Fourth Sister moved into a two-courtyard residence with Wukong and Xiao Rou. As she cannot cultivate before awakening her martial soul, she focuses on learning literacy, human customs, and basic cultivation knowledge while Wukong strengthens her foundation with Century Whale Rubber and mild medicinal baths. 60 61 62

She occupies the residence’s west wing, while Wukong takes the main house and Xiao Rou the east wing. Despite initially being unable to read the meditation manuals or understand discussions of meridians and acupoints, she listens seriously and accepts Wukong’s preparations for her future cultivation. 60

Fourth Sister later contributes to Wukong’s research into Seventy-Two Transformations. Together with Xiao Rou, she gives him unrestricted guidance on their former Soul Beast bodies, enabling him to imitate the Death Spider Emperor and Soft Bone Rabbit forms. His early imitations reproduce their appearances but not their innate abilities. 66

When Wukong announces a return to the forest for gravity training, Fourth Sister continues their customary banter, insisting that she is still growing and will defeat him after awakening her martial soul. Xiao Rou agrees to manage the household during his absence. 67

At a later reunion, Fourth Sister and Xiao Rou are initially frightened by Zi Ji’s presence. Zi Ji reassures them, asks them to call her “Sister Zi Ji,” and encourages them to treat her as family. The household celebrates Wukong’s return with a welcoming feast. 83

After Xiao Wu transforms and begins attending Soul Master Academy, Fourth Sister remains too young to enroll. She stays in the courtyard residence, studying continental history and Soul Beast knowledge while receiving medicinal meals and baths; at that point, she still needs another two years to reach school age. 92

Spirit Hall’s investigation of Wukong’s household later records her as a five-year-old child whose name is unknown and whose martial soul has not awakened. Because Bibi Dong orders the agents not to alert the household, their information is gathered from outside the residence and does not uncover Fourth Sister’s Soul Beast identity. 103

When Wukong returns from Spirit Hall, Cai Lin interrupts Fourth Sister’s reading and persuades her to open the gate for him. Fourth Sister denies having come to greet him of her own accord, then becomes displeased when Cai Lin openly expresses how much she missed him. Wukong notices her mood and reassures her by announcing gifts for the household. 114

During the subsequent family reunion, Wukong gives Fourth Sister bolts of fine fabric and provides Xiao Rou with top-quality Spirit Hall cultivation supplies for both girls. On a later shopping trip in the Northern Borderlands, he also selects several venomous-insect Soul Beast specimen models for Fourth Sister. 115 119

Appearance

Before Transformation, Fourth Sister was an enormous Death Spider Emperor whose territory was obscured by dense purple poisonous miasma. Her true form possessed eight long spider legs, spider spears, and armored body segments. 21 54

After Transformation, she became a delicate three-year-old girl with long silky black hair, fair skin, sharp heroic eyes, and an expression too proud for her childlike appearance. 58

Personality

Fourth Sister is proud, combative, and blunt. She frequently calls Wukong a “stinking monkey,” resists his advice, and maintains an imperious attitude even when her circumstances leave her dependent on others. 13 58

Beneath this hostility, she is deeply loyal and emotionally vulnerable. Her concern for Wukong is usually expressed through denial, sarcasm, or threats of future revenge rather than direct affection. 14 16 21

She can also be pragmatic when lives are at stake. After her foundation was destroyed, she stopped Xiao Wu from pursuing Spirit Hall, recognizing that vengeance against multiple Titled Douluo would only cause further deaths. 57

Her decision to Transform revealed insecurity she normally hides: before the ritual, she privately asked Wukong what humans considered beautiful and sought reassurance about her future appearance. 57

She is willing to support others materially despite her own dependence. After Wukong allocates her a share of the Spirit Hall spoils, she permits him to use it first because his immediate cultivation and body-tempering needs are greater than hers. 58

Her adjustment to human life also reveals a serious attitude toward learning. Although she initially understands little of human cultivation theory, she listens attentively, studies literacy, and later reads history and Soul Beast textbooks at home. 60 62 92

Fourth Sister can become jealous of Wukong’s attention to other companions. On witnessing Cai Lin’s affectionate reunion with him, she withdraws to her textbook rather than openly compete, maintaining her pride through dismissive remarks. Wukong’s promise of gifts quickly improves her mood. 114
