Cultivation

Cultivation can be accelerated through heavenly treasures, concentrated origin energy, and the influence of an Imperial Auspicious Beast. Soul Beasts may also evolve by consuming treasures whose attributes suit them 17 76. Surviving a Heavenly Tribulation can strengthen the survivor rather than merely permit continued cultivation: Wukong’s Hundred-Thousand-Year tribulation purified his Soul Power and greatly tempered his physique 16.

Cultivation age does not always correspond directly to combat strength. The Imperial Auspicious Beast fights above its apparent age, while Tian Meng’s high cultivation does not compensate fully for his limited offensive abilities and depleted origin 10 120.

Power Progression

The following developments demonstrate the increasingly advanced cultivation route pursued by Sun Wukong after Transformation. They are individual achievements rather than standard milestones available to every Soul Beast.

Traits

Soul Cores and bloodlines

Soul Beasts cultivate by absorbing the spiritual energy of heaven and earth; their rate of growth is tied to their bloodline aptitude. Powerful beasts develop Soul Cores, which serve as a major source of cultivation and are associated with the creation of Soul Bones 16 20.

• A Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast is guaranteed to leave behind a Soul Bone upon death 16.
• Bloodline origin is the foundation of a Soul Beast’s innate abilities. Merely copying a beast’s body cannot reproduce its racial powers without its corresponding bloodline 66.
• Most Soul Beasts cannot speak human language until reaching one hundred thousand years of cultivation; Sun Wukong is an exception due to his reincarnated human consciousness and unusually human-like Innate Spirit Monkey form 2.
• Origin essence can be transferred to another individual, but substantial donations reduce the donor’s cultivation or leave them exhausted. Di Tian sacrifices nearly ten thousand years of cultivation to provide Wukong with Golden-Eyed Black Dragon origin, while the Golden Lion is severely exhausted by donating ten years of her own origin 74 75.
• Wukong’s Seventy-Two Transformations overcomes the limitations of outward imitation by recording and analyzing origin essence. His demonstrated forms reproduce the Golden-Eyed Black Dragon’s Extreme Darkness and the Three-Eyed Golden Lion’s Eye of Destiny and auspicious authority 74 75.

The destruction of a Soul Core during Transformation does not prevent a transformed individual from eventually developing new cores. Wukong plans separate Bloodline, Spiritual, and Soul Power cores in his Lower, Upper, and Middle Dantians respectively. He successfully forms the Bloodline and Spiritual cores, but the third remains a planned advancement 102 123.

Innate abilities

Soul Beast abilities vary by species, bloodline, and individual cultivation. Their innate powers may include poison, petrification, fate manipulation, elemental control, or physical transformations.

• The Three-Eyed Golden Lion possesses fate-related power as the Imperial Auspicious Beast, a rare being that benefits nearby Soul Beasts’ cultivation and breakthroughs 10.
• An Imperial Auspicious Beast does not advance through training; its cultivation grows with age, while its actual combat ability exceeds its apparent cultivation age 10.
• Soul Beasts connected to fortune, such as Sun Wukong, are not necessarily Imperial Auspicious Beasts despite possessing similar auras 10.
• The Golden-Eyed Black Dragon bloodline possesses Extreme Darkness, which can devour energy and corrode souls. Di Tian’s advanced techniques require further study beyond acquiring the racial attribute alone 75.
• The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger possesses six rare attributes: evil, time, space, lightning, wind, and strength. Its Life and Death Arena combines time and space, making its origin a prospective source for Wukong’s research into time laws 125.

Auspicious auras

The Imperial Auspicious Beast’s influence improves both cultivation speed and the prospects of surviving Heavenly Tribulations. Its authority is therefore particularly important to powerful Soul Beasts approaching dangerous breakthroughs 76 77.

Wukong attributes the stacking limit to the plane’s laws and interprets the permitted enhancement as evidence that the Planetary Will favors him. The auspicious halos remain limited in range rather than benefiting every Soul Beast across the continent simultaneously 76 91.

Transformation

At one hundred thousand years, a Soul Beast may abandon its beast body and become human in pursuit of a different route to power. This path is dangerous, but it is regarded as a possible means for Soul Beasts to seek godhood after the beast race’s direct path was severed 8 16.

• Transformation destroys the Soul Core and uses its released creative energy to remake the Soul Beast into a human body 16.
• The transformed individual must cultivate anew as a human Soul Master 8 18.
• Transforming Soul Beasts cannot absorb external Soul Rings or Soul Bones; they can only condense Soul Rings from their own origin 18 19.
• They require contact with human society to cultivate efficiently. Remaining hidden in a forest causes their progress to stagnate 6.
• Their Soul Beast aura can expose them to human hunters, making concealment artifacts such as the Lovesick Heartbreak Red highly valuable 20.
• When condensing their rings, they can select original racial talents or techniques cultivated in their beast forms as Soul Skills rather than receiving skills randomly 19.
• Wukong states that transformed Soul Beasts possess only one martial soul and lack the divine inheritances and external Soul Bone enhancements available to human Soul Masters. He proposes compensating through heavenly treasures, physical tempering, and exceptionally powerful self-condensed rings 29 45.
• Self-condensed rings avoid the mental backlash associated with absorbing another creature’s ring, although the transformed individual must still endure the physical energy burden 33.
• External origin energy can support ring condensation without becoming an externally absorbed Soul Ring. Tian Meng repeatedly supplies such energy for Wukong’s advancements 73 98.

Wukong’s Transformation produces a six-year-old human body. Most of the released creative energy is consumed in reshaping him, a small portion establishes Innate Full Soul Power at level ten, and the excess returns to nature. His Companion Spirit Artifact and Truth-Breaking Golden Eyes remain separate from his newly acquired Body Martial Soul 16 17.

Human meridians permit much faster Soul Power circulation than Wukong’s former beast body, but his old instinctive cultivation method is no longer sufficient after losing his Soul Core. Learning the Universal Meditation Technique provides him with a controlled human cultivation method, which he then seeks to improve 20 21 24.

The humanoid forms used by Di Tian and the other Ferocious Beasts are distinct from Transformation and recultivation. They cultivate in human form within the limited underground space beneath the Lake of Life while retaining their established beast cultivation 9.

Relationship with Humans

Humans commonly hunt Soul Beasts for Soul Rings, particularly those with high cultivation. Dugu Bo attempts to kill Medusa for her Soul Ring, while Bibi Dong’s group targets the Hundred-Thousand-Year Death Spider Emperor 3 5 53.

• Human society is both necessary and dangerous for Transforming Soul Beasts: it supplies the environment needed for renewed cultivation but also contains the Soul Masters most likely to identify and kill them 6 8.
• A transformed Soul Beast’s limited human Fortune can become a cultivation bottleneck, explaining why some seek alliances with gifted human Soul Masters 20.
• Soul Beasts can form alliances with humans or other Soul Beasts, but territorial instinct and the demand for Soul Rings make conflict common 2 3.
• Soul Ring hunting can provoke retaliation from surviving beasts. A Golden-Beaked Sky-Splitting Falcon pursues the Iron Triangle after they kill its mate for a ring; Wukong subsequently kills the pursuing falcon 69 70.
• Soul Beasts can recognize and protect transformed members living among humans. Zi Ji identifies Ah Yin as a transformed Blue Silver Emperor despite her level-seventy disguise and reassures her without exposing her identity to the Tang brothers 86.
• Concealment can allow long-term residence in human settlements. Wukong’s companions, including Xiao Wu, Rou, Fourth Sister, Zi Ji, and Cai Lin, accompany him back to Dragon Rising City 91.
• The strongest Soul Beast leaders regard their own combat power as superior to contemporary humanity’s. Their low profile is motivated chiefly by concern about the God Realm rather than fear of ordinary human factions 104.

Wukong also uses literature to obtain Faith Fortune, offering an alternative to forcibly seizing others’ Fortune. His fictional God Realm Legend stories portray persecuted Soul Beasts and corrupt divine institutions; these plots are authored fiction rather than confirmed accounts of the race’s history. Rou nevertheless initially treats the books as revelations about Soul Beast ancestors, and Wukong later reveals his authorship to his companions 34 42 63 104.

Leadership and Collective Support

The Silver Dragon King remains hidden beneath the Lake of Life while recovering, and Di Tian acts as her intermediary and the visible authority among the Ferocious Beasts. He initially supports Wukong’s attempt to pursue godhood through Transformation with her approval 8 9.

Wukong’s successful replication of Imperial Auspicious Beast authority changes his importance to the wider race. The Silver Dragon King orders that the race’s resources support his development and that a powerful guardian accompany him outside the forest 76 77.

• Di Tian formally grants Wukong status equal to the Imperial Auspicious Beast and assigns Zi Ji to protect him until he becomes a Titled Douluo 77.
• By the time Wukong reveals his authorship, his standing is described as second only to the Silver Dragon King and Di Tian, slightly above the Three-Eyed Golden Lion 104.
• Di Tian, Scarlet King, Bi Ji, Zi Ji, Xiong Jun, and the Myriad Demon King provide origin essence for his transformation research. Wukong records seven powerful origins, including that of the genuine Imperial Auspicious Beast 74 75 77.
• Their support is reciprocal: the Ferocious Beasts expect Wukong’s auspicious abilities and eventual strength to improve their tribulation prospects and protect the race. Wukong explicitly promises to protect the clan when he becomes strong enough 77 98.

• Sun Wukong — An Innate Spirit Stone-born Stone Monkey who reaches the Hundred-Thousand-Year threshold, survives a Heavenly Tribulation, and transforms into a human 1 16. He later gains standing comparable to the Imperial Auspicious Beast, develops two new Soul Cores, and reaches level sixty-two with a million-year sixth Soul Ring 77 102 123.
• Death Spider Emperor / Fourth Sister — A Hundred-Thousand-Year purple-black spider Soul Beast hunted by Bibi Dong’s faction 5 53. She helps Wukong study her species’ physical structure and later accompanies his group into human territory 66 91.
• Sky Dream Ice Silkworm / Tian Meng — A jade-white Soul Beast initially described as possessing ninety-nine-hundred-thousand-year cultivation, whose origin energy is extracted by the Ferocious Beasts 9. He repeatedly supports Wukong’s ring formation and later recovers his depleted origin, stabilizing at three hundred thousand years after the ice cavern expedition 98 123.
• Three-Eyed Golden Lion — The Imperial Auspicious Beast and vessel of the Soul Beast race’s fortune 9 10. Her origin enables Wukong to replicate her auspicious authority and extend its benefits through transformed clones 75 76.
• Cai Lin — A snake Soul Beast who reaches seventy thousand years of cultivation and accompanies Sun Wukong into human territory 21. She later advances to ninety-two thousand years, develops a more fully human appearance, and approaches the ability to speak. Wukong’s auspicious aura may help her reach one hundred thousand years within five years 123.
• Silver Dragon King — The hidden leader recovering beneath the Lake of Life. She authorizes support for Wukong and later elevates his importance to the entire race 9 76 77.
• Di Tian — The Beast God and Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King, possessing a little over eight hundred thousand years of cultivation. He directs the Ferocious Beasts, donates origin essence, and oversees Wukong’s development 74 77 119.
• Zi Ji — A Hell Demon Dragon Ferocious Beast appointed as Wukong’s guardian. Her cultivation approaches three hundred thousand years, and she accompanies him through human society and the northern expedition 77 86 123.
• Bi Ji, Scarlet King, Xiong Jun, and Myriad Demon King — Ferocious Beasts associated respectively with the Emerald Swan, Three-Headed Scarlet Mastiff, Dark-Golden Terrorclaw Bear, and Demon-Eyed Tree origins. Each contributes to Wukong’s cultivation or origin research 77.

• Ah Yin — A transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor who has reached level seventy. She provides Wukong with Blue Silver Emperor origin for his fourth-ring research 86 91.
