She raised her head to look out the window, her gaze distant and complicated:
"But I have to admit, although Bibi Dong is not much of a person, he truly has exceptional talent when it comes to martial soul research. With that man's personality, if I ask him for a complete cultivation method for Twin Martial Souls, he probably won't refuse."
"Though I really don't want to see that person. But for your sake, I can swallow my pride and ask him once."
The wind blowing through the window stirred the strands of hair hanging beside her cheek. In that instant, Su Yang saw a stubborn loneliness in her profile, as though feelings hidden for many years had finally been spoken aloud, or as though she had touched a wound that would never heal.
Su Yang's mind completely short-circuited.
Bibi Dong was a man? Qian Xunji was a woman? And those two had gotten together and had a child? Yu Xiaorou had even had a relationship with Bibi Dong? What the hell kind of melodramatic ethical soap opera was this?!
Wait.
Bibi Dong and Qian Xunji's child... wouldn't that be Qian Renxue? In the original story, Bibi Dong was a woman and Qian Xunji was a man. They were master and disciple, as well as perpetrator and victim.
Yet here, their genders had been reversed, and the master-disciple romance had become a loving pair instead?
The more Su Yang thought about it, the more absurd it seemed. But on second thought, it made sense. Yu Xiaogang had become a woman, so wasn't it perfectly reasonable for Bibi Dong to become a man?
It was only normal for Qian Xunji to become a woman too. Otherwise, how would the balance of yin and yang be maintained?
Was this the legendary law of heaven? The complementarity of yin and yang?
Su Yang suddenly thought of something and blurted out, "Teacher, then... what is the name of Spirit Hall's current Holy Maiden?"
Yu Xiaorou was taken aback by the question. "Holy Maiden? Spirit Hall doesn't have a Holy Maiden."
Su Yang: "..."
No Holy Maiden? Then what about Hu Liena? Yan? Spirit Hall's Golden Generation? Had none of them been born yet?
He probed further. "Um... you just mentioned the child Bibi Dong and Qian Xunji had..."
"Oh, that one." Yu Xiaorou waved a hand, her tone casual. "I think her name was Qian Renxue, but I don't know where she went..."
Su Yang: "..."
Qian Renxue. Born to Bibi Dong and Qian Xunji, Qian Renxue had become Qian Xunji's heir.
He tilted his head back and stared at the ceiling, feeling his worldview shatter and reassemble, then shatter all over again within the span of a single minute.
He had originally thought that, after transmigrating, he would be able to run rampant with his memories of the original story. But now, the entire world had been thrown out of place. The plotlines he knew by heart had probably collapsed beyond all recognition.
Everything was a mess. This radically altered world had gone completely insane.
Su Yang took a deep breath and silently repeated, When in Rome, do as the Romans do, three times, forcing down the chaotic thoughts. Then he looked up at Yu Xiaorou.
No matter how messed up this world was, the teacher before him and that strategy system were his greatest support.
"All right, go get settled in the work-study student dormitory first."
Yu Xiaorou organized the documents on the desk and glanced at the sky outside the window.
"You have Innate Full Soul Power. Once I've made the arrangements in a few days, I'll take you to hunt your first soul ring."
"So soon?" Su Yang was somewhat surprised.
"What do you mean, soon?" Yu Xiaorou shot him a look, her tone perfectly matter-of-fact. "You already have Innate Full Soul Power. The earlier you attach a soul ring, the better. If you delay too long, the Soul Power will accumulate in your body without circulating, which will instead affect your later cultivation."
She paused, and a trace of seriousness appeared in her eyes behind the lenses.
"Hunting soul beasts is no trivial matter. Since I've become your teacher, I'll naturally arrange everything for you. Spend these next two days getting familiar with the academy and resting well. Leave the rest to me."
Warmth filled Su Yang's heart, and he nodded. "Thank you, Teacher."
He walked out of the office, then looked back at the closed door. Sunlight slanted across the corridor, stretching his shadow long behind him.
Su Yang gently exhaled, a smile curving his lips. Having a teacher to look out for him did feel rather nice.
The work-study student dormitory was at the academy's northeastern corner, an old two-story building. Moss crawled all over the walls, and the wooden stairs creaked beneath his feet. Compared to the bright, glamorous dormitory buildings out front, it was indeed rather shabby.
He pushed open the dormitory door, and the damp, moldy smell of old wood hit him in the face. The room was not large, with four bunk beds. On the bed by the window, someone lay with his back to him.
Tang San.
Su Yang's steps paused as his gaze lingered on that small figure for two seconds.
Tang San lay curled into a ball on the bed, his brows tightly furrowed and a fine layer of sweat beading on his forehead, as though he were enduring some kind of pain. Every so often, a suppressed groan escaped his throat.
Su Yang narrowed his eyes.
Something was wrong.
He had already felt that this Tang San was strange back in the office. At first, Tang San had been dazed, like his soul had left his body. Later, when he refused Yu Xiaorou, he had been far too calm. Now, he looked as though his head were splitting apart.
No matter how he looked at it, this was not normal behavior for a six-year-old child.
Su Yang did not approach right away. Instead, he sat on the bed opposite, observing Tang San without drawing attention while his mind raced.
He was a transmigrator, and he had not followed the original plot. So what exactly was this Tang San before him? If Tang San were merely an ordinary six-year-old, he should have become Yu Xiaorou's disciple long ago. Yet Tang San had refused her himself.
Unless he knew Yu Xiaogang's destined fate... or rather, like Su Yang, he too carried memories from a previous life.
Su Yang's heart skipped a beat, and his gaze at Tang San became more guarded. Yet his expression did not change. He simply sat at the edge of the bed, waiting for Tang San to wake up on his own. Some things could not be rushed.
Tang San did not know how long he had been lying there.
He only remembered breaking free from a haze, his mind seeming to churn with countless fragments as several centuries of memories from his past life flooded into his head like a torrent.
Scene after scene flashed by—from his arduous cultivation in childhood, to becoming Yu Xiaogang's disciple, to the journey of climbing step by step to the position of God King, and finally, that sudden dark shadow and the instant of his fall...
"Hah—!"
He suddenly opened his eyes and sat up, gasping for breath. His back was already soaked through with sweat, damp strands of hair clinging to his forehead and skin as his chest heaved violently.
He had truly been reborn. He had returned to the age of six. In his previous life, he had only just attained the position of God King when he had accidentally perished in a spatial turbulence. He never expected that upon opening his eyes, he would return to the beginning.
Tang San slowly exhaled, and his tense shoulders gradually relaxed. He looked around the room—the familiar wooden beds, the familiar moldy smell, even the position of that crooked tree outside the window was exactly the same as in his memories.
This was indeed the work-study student dormitory of Nording Academy.
He was just about to smile when he suddenly froze. An image flashed through his mind—that woman wearing gold-rimmed glasses.
When he had called her "Master" in the office earlier, it had clearly been a title he had once respected beyond measure. But... how had Yu Xiaogang become a woman?
