Background / History

The Corpse Mover regularly transports bodies to Qingfeng Mausoleum for burial, using a battered flatbed cart and personally digging graves. He brought the frozen beggar whose final wish first brought Yu Chen into contact with the Scripture of Deliverance, then later carried the murdered foolish woman and other unclaimed dead to the mausoleum. 1 3 4

Because both are socially marginalized by their work, he gradually becomes Yu Chen's main source of news from Weishui. He warns Yu Chen about hauntings, genuinely brings him fresh black dog blood for protection, and invites him to the Wang Household's Tiger Banquet. 13 26

Yu Chen eventually discovers that the seemingly ordinary laborer possesses an extraordinary Innate physique and Internal Force. His vitality exceeds that of Xie Qing, leader of the Zhengqing Gang, and he conceals his strength behind the mannerisms of a crude, talkative commoner. 26

The Corpse Mover is also Lin Yi's martial-arts master. He secretly follows Lin Yi when he fears his disciple will murder the Ji brothers, analyzes the brothers' ritualized execution, and warns Lin Yi never to confront the Ghost-Faced Man alone. His former life as a terrifying butcher is implied during this meeting. 36

Behind the scenes, he reports to an unnamed fat man later identified as Weishui's county magistrate. Their shared purpose is revenge against a long-standing enemy, and the Corpse Mover is dispatched to eliminate Xiao Zihua after the fugitive escapes prison. 42 47 50
