Warehouse Crisis

The warehouse doors slowly opened under the combined push of the three of them. The shriek of metal scraping echoed through the silence, like the low growl of a sleeping beast awakening.

A bone-chilling cold, laden with the pungent stench of engine oil and rust, rushed at them. Gwen shivered and instinctively tightened her grip on the Sonic Emitter at her waist. Li's hand holding the flashlight trembled slightly, its beam swaying through the darkness and revealing mottled rust stains and cobwebs along the walls. Scarlet light glimmered at Wanda's fingertips, illuminating their surroundings, but the sight before them only grew stranger—the warehouse was lined with densely packed metal racks, covered in unassembled mechanical parts. On the floor, countless half-finished mechanical creatures stood in silent rows. Their hollow eye sockets and twisted joints seemed ready to spring to life at any moment amid the shifting light and shadow.

"This is practically a mechanical graveyard..." Gwen lowered her voice, her wary gaze sweeping over the area as her throat bobbed unconsciously. "These things give me the creeps." Her eyes suddenly fixed on a corner in the distance, where a row of consoles glowed with an eerie blue light. Complex strings of data constantly flashed across their screens like some mysterious incantation. "Something's over there!"

Li felt his throat tighten. He forced himself to remain calm, but his voice still trembled slightly. "These must all be MODOK's war machines. We need to be careful not to trigger any traps." Images from the comics kept flashing through his mind—MODOK wreaking havoc across cities, streets crushed beneath mechanical legions, collapsing buildings, and desperate people. He took a deep breath and tried to drive those terrifying thoughts from his mind.

The moment he finished speaking, all the white lights overhead suddenly switched on. The blinding glare made the three of them shut their eyes and raise their arms to shield themselves. An alarm abruptly blared, its piercing sound echoing through the warehouse and rattling their eardrums as if it would shatter their brains. The previously motionless half-finished mechanical creatures activated one after another. The grinding of gears and screech of metal rose and fell like a horrifying mechanical symphony. They turned their rusted necks, their hollow gazes locking onto the three of them in unison, like starving beasts spotting prey.

"Run!" Wanda shouted, her voice cracking slightly with panic. She grabbed Li's wrist, gripping so hard she nearly crushed his bones, and dragged him deeper into the warehouse. Wanda's heart pounded wildly in her chest. She could clearly hear her ragged breathing, every breath feeling like she was inhaling molten lava. Gwen covered their retreat, repeatedly firing sonic blasts to drive back the approaching mechanical creatures. She moved with the agility of a panther, observing the surroundings as she retreated and searching for anything useful. Sweat slid down her forehead and into her eyes, stinging painfully, but she had no time to wipe it away.

Suddenly, Gwen spotted a blue-glowing box in a corner. The AIM logo was engraved on its surface, making it especially conspicuous in the dim warehouse. Instinct told her there might be something crucial inside. Without hesitation, she shouted, "Wait! There's a box over there!" She turned and rushed toward it, failing to notice that a massive mechanical guard behind her had already activated. The guard stood twice as tall as a person, its outstretched arms shaped like enormous scythes. Sharp barbs covered its surface, scorching steam vented from its joints, and the ground trembled slightly with every step it took.

Li spotted the danger approaching. His heart leaped into his throat, as though it might jump from his mouth the next second.

Countless images of cities destroyed by MODOK's mechanical army flashed through his mind, and those horrific scenes sent a chill through his body. Courage from nowhere surged within him as he shouted, "Gwen, watch out!" He lunged forward and knocked Gwen aside, but the mechanical guard's scythe arm slashed his shoulder. Blood instantly soaked his clothes, and the piercing pain made his vision go dark. He nearly lost his footing.

"Li!" Gwen cried out, her voice filled with panic and anger, nearly breaking into tears. She immediately changed direction and attacked the mechanical guard with the Sonic Emitter at full power. The instant the sonic blast struck the guard, a shower of sparks erupted, illuminating everything around them. Yet it only paused briefly before swinging its scythe again, faster than before. Wanda swiftly turned as well, her scarlet energy forming chains that wrapped around the guard's limbs. Metal hissed under the scorching energy, and the air filled with a pungent burning smell. Under their combined attack, the mechanical guard was finally forced back. But more mechanical creatures poured in from every direction, forming a torrent of steel that pressed closer and closer, their sheer numbers enough to drive anyone to despair.

Wanda's energy was draining rapidly. The hand maintaining the chains began to tremble uncontrollably, large beads of sweat rolled down her forehead, and her face grew increasingly pale, her lips bloodless. She could feel her magic slipping away like sand through an hourglass, impossible to hold onto. Every time she used her power, her head hurt as if it were about to explode.

"This can't go on!" Li gritted his teeth and endured the pain in his shoulder. Every breath came with tearing agony. He struggled to open the box from earlier, his fingers turning white from the strain. Inside lay a crystal glowing with an unusual light. Silver energy patterns flowed across its surface, as though countless stars flickered within it, radiating a mysterious and powerful aura. Beside it was an encrypted file. He quickly cracked it using the device he carried, code racing across the screen as his heartbeat accelerated. When he saw the contents, his face turned even paler, as if he had seen a ghost.

"This crystal is a rare Energy Core. It can provide mechanical devices with nearly limitless power." Li's voice trembled with fear. "The file says MODOK has been collecting these crystals. He... he wants to use Mechanical Flower's automatic repair and environmental sensing technology, combine it with these Energy Cores, and build an invincible mechanical army to rule the entire city! If he succeeds, the consequences will be unimaginable."

Gwen's gaze hardened, fury burning in her eyes. "We can't let him succeed! Leave it to me! I'll use the Electromagnetic Pulse Device to destroy the crystal!" She reached for it, but at that moment, violent tremors suddenly shook the warehouse ceiling. Concrete and steel reinforcement rained down. Amid a deafening roar, a huge figure slowly descended—MODOK himself! He wore a domed helmet, his enormous deformed head gleaming with a cold metallic sheen. The mechanical exoskeleton around his body flickered with eerie blue energy, every component radiating danger. Madness gleamed in his eyes, as though he could devour everything.

"A bunch of ignorant little brats." MODOK's voice boomed through a loudspeaker, carrying a chilling hint of laughter. The sound waves made the surrounding mechanical parts hum. "You think you can steal my Energy Core? Mechanical Flower's automatic repair technology and environmental interaction programs are the key to giving these mechanical creatures true 'life.' Hand over the technology, then offer up the Energy Core, and perhaps I'll leave your corpses intact." With a wave of his hand, the mechanical creatures around them attacked even more frantically. The entire warehouse descended into chaos as metal collisions, mechanical whirring, and alarms intertwined into a terrifying symphony of hell.

Wanda stood in front of Li and Gwen. Chaos Energy surged, forming a solid barrier around her to block the mechanical creatures' attacks. Her hair whipped wildly in the energy currents, and her eyes were firm and resolute. "Don't even think about it! We won't let your scheme succeed!" Gwen rapidly adjusted the Electromagnetic Pulse Device. Large beads of sweat slid down her forehead and dripped onto the device, splashing into tiny droplets across its metal surface. Ignoring the pain in his shoulder, Li forced himself to stand beside her and provide data support. Though blood loss blurred his vision and made everything before him sway, he kept his eyes fixed on the screen, loudly calling out parameters until his voice grew hoarse.

The mechanical creatures attacked like a rising tide. Cracks began to form in Wanda's barrier, every one of them like a blade carving into her heart. Gwen's Electromagnetic Pulse Device was nearly fully charged, but MODOK had already made his move himself. A massive beam of energy gathered in his hand, glowing with an evil purple light like flames from hell, aimed straight at the three of them.
