New York, Manhattan, Bleecker Street.
The once-bustling street was now in chaos. Screams rose one after another. The crowd scattered like a startled herd, cars crashed into each other in a chain reaction, and alarms pierced the sky.
"Bang—!"
A searing energy beam swept across the street, instantly shattering an entire row of storefront windows. Glass shards rained down like a storm.
"JARVIS! Does this thing even have a weakness?!" Tony Stark's voice sounded inside the Mark-3 armor, carrying a rare trace of agitation.
He rolled to the side, barely dodging the Destroyer Armor's second energy blast. The armor's thrusters roared at full power, carving a golden-red arc through the air.
"Sir, the target armor's material cannot be identified. Its energy readings exceed the database range." JARVIS's voice remained steady, though his speech had noticeably quickened. "Evasion is recommended as the priority. Attempting to analyze its weaknesses."
"Evasion? You want me to run on my own turf? Chen Tian would laugh at me for the rest of my life!" Tony made a sharp turn to avoid the Destroyer's sweeping arm. Even through his armor, he could feel the wind tearing through the air.
Gritting his teeth, he fired three repulsor blasts into the empty faceplate. "Damn it! What the hell is this thing made of?"
The Destroyer Armor suddenly froze. Beneath its faceplate, the darkness lit up with a blinding orange glow. Tony's pupils contracted—the warning sign was all too familiar.
"JARVIS! Full-power thrusters—"
"Boom!!!"
A blazing white beam skimmed beneath the armor's feet, and a building behind him slowly tilted over like melting butter. Tony tumbled awkwardly through a storm of glass fragments as JARVIS issued a rare warning in his ear. "Warning! Armor integrity has fallen to 67%!"
"Damn it!" Tony cursed. "JARVIS, have you contacted Chen Tian?"
"Communications are still being disrupted. A stable connection cannot be established."
"Damn it! If my Mark-3 Eclipse Edition had been finished, I could've torn this thing apart with my bare hands!" Tony snarled angrily. "We can't let it keep going! It'll wipe out New York City!"
"JARVIS! Is there any way to lure it away?"
JARVIS's voice sounded in Tony's ear. "Sir, based on analysis of its energy trajectory, this armor has a very specific target—177A Bleecker Street."
"177A?" Tony froze. "Isn't that the house Chen Tian told me to go to?"
"Yes, Sir." JARVIS quickly brought up the data. "The target's route is completely locked onto that location. The destruction along the way appears to be collateral damage caused by your intervention."
Tony frowned deeply. The armor's thrusters adjusted slightly, leaving him hovering in midair as he observed the Destroyer's movements. Sure enough, the enormous armor was advancing in a straight line toward 177A Bleecker Street. Any obstacle in its path was mercilessly destroyed.
"JARVIS, what exactly is in that house?" Tony asked quietly.
"There is no relevant information in the database. However," JARVIS replied, "based on information Chen Tian had 2B provide, he previously asked me to inform you that Thor may be imprisoned there. And all your A-plans are A for Attack."
"Thor? The thunder god from Norse mythology?" Tony clicked his tongue. "So this thing came to save him?"
"Or... to kill him," JARVIS added.
Tony was silent for a second, then suddenly accelerated. His armor ripped through the air and stopped directly in front of the Destroyer.
"Hey! Big guy!" Tony raised his repulsor cannon and aimed at the Destroyer's faceplate. "Whether you're here to save someone or kill someone, New York isn't a place for you to run wild!"
The Destroyer Armor paused slightly. The orange glow beneath its faceplate flickered, as if evaluating the obstacle before it.
Tony grinned. "JARVIS, prepare Plan B."
"Sir, you do not have a Plan B."
"Now I do!" Tony raised his hand sharply. The armor plating over his shoulders sprang open, and dozens of miniature missiles screamed out, all blasting toward the Destroyer's joints!
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Explosive flames instantly engulfed the Destroyer, but Tony did not relax in the slightest. He knew that an attack of this level could never destroy it.
Sure enough, the next second, the Destroyer strode out of the flames. Its armor was completely unscathed, and the glow beneath its faceplate had become even fiercer.
"JARVIS! Find its energy core!" Tony shouted.
"Attempting... abnormal energy fluctuations detected!" JARVIS's voice suddenly became urgent. "Sir, its energy readings are rapidly rising!"
Tony's pupils shrank—the armor over the Destroyer's chest slowly opened, revealing a spinning orange-red energy core within. Terrifying power was gathering!
"Damn it!" Tony immediately retreated at full speed, but the Destroyer seemed to have already locked onto him.
At that critical moment—
"Hum—!"
Golden sparks blossomed before Tony and rapidly expanded into a portal.
The energy shockwave fired by the Destroyer shot into the portal. Tony stared wide-eyed as the blast, powerful enough to wipe out an entire street, vanished without a trace after entering it.
"JARVIS, where did that energy blast go?"
For once, JARVIS's voice carried a hint of confusion. "Sir, based on energy trajectory analysis... that beam has just broken through Earth's atmosphere."
"What?!" Tony's voice jumped an octave. "You mean that thing blasted a shot out of Earth?!"
"Yes, Sir." JARVIS paused. "And... it appears to have struck a satellite in low Earth orbit. It seems to be one of your satellites."
Tony opened his mouth, momentarily speechless.
As Tony stood there somewhat stunned, a deep voice suddenly sounded beside him. "It seems we arrived just in time."
Tony whipped around and saw a Black man in dark robes standing beside him at some unknown point.
Even more eye-catching was the chubby Asian man next to him. Golden runes flickered around his wrist, and one hand was continuously drawing circles, making golden sparks spin through the air.
"Damn it!" Tony instinctively raised his repulsor cannon. "Where the hell did you two come from?"
The Black man smiled slightly and gave a strange salute. "I am Master Mordo of Kamar-Taj." He pointed at the chubby man beside him. "This is Wong."
"Kamar... what?" Tony frowned. "JARVIS, look up this organization."
"Sir, there are no relevant records in the database," JARVIS immediately replied.
The golden ring in Wong's hand grew larger and larger. Without looking up, he said, "Don't bother. Our existence is a secret to ordinary people."
Mordo stepped forward, his gaze fixed on the Destroyer Armor in the distance. "Mr. Stark, this magical construct is not something you can handle."
Tony's faceplate popped open, revealing his incredulous expression. "Wait, you're saying this is... magic?"
"More precisely, it is a hybrid of magic and technology from Asgard." Wong finally stopped moving his hand. The golden ring had already grown large enough for a person to pass through. "Now, if you don't mind letting professionals handle this..."
Tony was about to argue when the Destroyer Armor suddenly let out an earth-shaking roar, and the energy core in its chest lit up once more.
"Watch out!" Tony shouted.
Mordo raised both hands, and an orange magical shield instantly unfolded.
"Boom—!!!"
The Destroyer's energy cannon slammed into Mordo's magical shield. The orange rune barrier held for less than half a second before shattering like glass! The violent energy blast struck Mordo square in the chest and blasted him away!
"Mordo!" Wong's expression changed dramatically. He hurriedly raised his hand to cast a portal for rescue, but the Destroyer had already locked onto him again. The orange glow beneath its faceplate flickered madly!
"Damn it!" Tony drove his armor forward and rammed directly into the Destroyer. "JARVIS! Full-power thrusters! Distract it!"
The thrusters behind the armor erupted with blinding blue flames, and Tony slammed into the Destroyer's side like a cannonball! The Destroyer staggered a step from the impact, its energy blast veering off course and shooting into the sky over Wong's head!
"Bang!"
Warnings flashed frantically across Tony's armor. "Warning! Armor integrity has fallen to 42%!"
"Shut up! I know!" Tony gritted his teeth and clung tightly to the Destroyer's arm, trying to restrict its movements. "Wong! Save him!"
Wong immediately rushed toward Mordo, who had been blasted away. The mage, who had looked so inscrutable only moments ago, was now embedded miserably in a wrecked car. His chest was charred black, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
"Cough, cough..." Mordo opened his eyes with difficulty. "This... this thing is stronger than I... imagined..."
Wong's mouth twitched. "Didn't you just say, 'Let the professionals handle it'?"
Mordo: "..."
Tony's voice came from the distance. "Hey! You two 'professionals'! Could you stop chatting?! I can barely hold on!"
The Destroyer suddenly flung its arm, sending Tony's armor flying straight into a café by the street! Glass shards and splinters exploded everywhere. Tony lay amid the wreckage as the armor's alarms shrieked. "Warning! Armor integrity has fallen to 31%!"
"Sir, immediate retreat is recommended." JARVIS's voice carried a rare note of urgency.
"Retreat?" Tony gritted his teeth and struggled to his feet. "New York is practically being torn apart. Where the hell am I supposed to retreat to?!"
Just then, a dark figure suddenly landed on the fire hydrant beside him.
"Listen, Mr. Stark!" Master Mordo's black robe snapped in the hot wind as he stared at the approaching Destroyer. "Wong and I will lure this thing into the Mirror Dimension. You go save that Norse god!"
"What?" Before Tony could react, he saw Wong's chubby figure stumble out of another portal.
"Have you lost your mind, Mordo?" Wong's face scrunched up, though the sling ring in his hand was already glowing gold. "The two of us are supposed to handle this thing? I'm just a librarian!"
"Quit whining!" Mordo grabbed Wong's arm. "If we waste any more time, the Sanctum will be torn down!"
The Destroyer had already raised its arm. The energy core in its chest began spinning violently, and blinding orange light dyed the entire street blood-red.
"Now!" Mordo roared.
Wong wore a miserable expression, but his hands traced intricate paths with precision. Golden sparks bloomed beneath the Destroyer's feet, and space shattered layer by layer like glass. Tony saw the Destroyer's movements suddenly slow, as if it had been dropped into thick glue.
"Go!" Mordo turned and roared at Tony, veins bulging at his temples. "Third basement level, Mirror Layer! We can't hold it for long!"
Tony was about to activate his thrusters when he suddenly noticed blood flowing from Wong's nostrils. The fat mage's round face had turned red, and the golden light from his sling ring flickered on and off.
"Damn it!" Mordo cursed as he freed his left hand. Two golden chains shot from his palm and wrapped around the Destroyer's legs. "This thing is resisting the spatial transfer!"
The Destroyer's faceplate suddenly twisted 180 degrees, staring directly at the two mages. Its chest made a metallic screech that set teeth on edge, and the energy core actually began spinning in reverse!
"Oh no!" Wong suddenly screamed. "It's analyzing the spatial coordinates!"
The entire street began to warp. Cars by the roadside stretched like clay. Tony's armor alarms blared madly. "Warning! Local spatial curvature anomaly!"
"There's no time!" Mordo bit through his tongue and sprayed a mist of blood over his sling ring. As the golden light surged, he screamed hoarsely at Tony, "Remember! Once you find Thor, make him summon Mjolnir immediately! Only the thunder god's lightning can—"
Before he could finish, the space around all three of them suddenly shattered like a mirror. Tony's vision blurred, and he found himself floating in a maze made of countless diamond-shaped fragments. Not far away, the Destroyer was frantically bombarding the spatial barrier, every strike making the entire mirrored world tremble violently.
"Sir, the vital signs of the two mages are rapidly declining." JARVIS's voice carried rare urgency. "Immediate action is recommended."
Tony gave one last look at the two mages struggling amid the fragments of space. His thrusters spat brilliant blue flames as he sped toward the Sanctum's basement. Behind him, the Destroyer's furious roars echoed faintly through the dimensional barrier, accompanied by the sound of space collapsing like shattering glass.
Tony's golden-red armor tore through the air and plunged through the doors of the New York Sanctum. The ancient oak doors automatically shut behind him, cutting off the chaos and explosions outside.
"Whew—" Tony exhaled deeply. His faceplate popped open as he looked around. "All right, at least this place hasn't been blasted into ruins yet."
The inside of the Sanctum was strangely quiet, as though it were a completely separate world from outside. Sunlight filtered through stained-glass windows, casting mottled light across the ancient wooden floor. A faint scent of herbs and parchment hung in the air, while strange runes and magical tools that Tony could not understand covered the surrounding walls.
"JARVIS, scan the building structure," Tony said quietly.
"Scanning..." JARVIS's voice sounded within the armor. "Sir, abnormal spatial fluctuations have been detected underground, but the exact location cannot be determined."
Tony frowned. "What do you mean, 'cannot be determined'? Can't you see through thirty layers of concrete?"
"The spatial structure here appears to..." JARVIS paused unusually. "...not conform to the laws of physics."
"Damn it." Tony rubbed his temples. "What did those two mages say? 'Mirror Layer'?"
Tony let out a heavy sigh. "I'm a scientist, not a wizard. So how exactly am I supposed to get into that damn Mirror Layer? Blast a giant hole in the floor?"
"I would not recommend that." A gentle female voice suddenly came from behind him.
Tony spun around. The armor's weapon system instantly locked onto the source—a woman in dark blue robes stood at the bend of the staircase, though he had no idea when she had appeared. Her hands were folded in front of her, and she wore a faint smile.
"Holy shit! Do all you wizards like appearing out of nowhere?" Tony's repulsor cannon remained lit. "Who are you?"
"I am one of the guardians of the New York Sanctum, and Master Wong's assistant." The woman gave a slight bow. "You may call me Lin. The Sorcerer Supreme asked me to wait here for you."
Tony did not lower his guard. "Sorcerer Supreme? Sounds cool, but how are you going to get me into the 'Mirror Layer'?"
Lin quickly walked to a small door, took a golden ring from her sleeve, and gently pressed it into a groove on the door. "With this. But you must hurry. Once the Destroyer breaks through the Mirror Dimension, the entire Sanctum will—"
Her words abruptly stopped.
The entire building suddenly shook violently. Chandeliers swayed wildly, and framed paintings fell from the walls one after another. The sound of shattering glass thundered in the distance.
"It broke through." Lin's face turned pale. "Much faster than expected."
Tony could hear the Destroyer's heavy footsteps outside, growing closer and closer.
"There's no time!" Lin suddenly bit her finger and let blood drip onto the golden ring. The runes on the door instantly lit up with blinding red light. "Listen, Mr. Stark. Entering the Mirror Layer requires a specific spell and a sling ring, but you don't have time to learn them now."
"So?"
"So you'll need a more direct method." Lin took a deep breath. "Jump in."
"Jump into wh—"
Before Tony could finish, Lin had already thrown open the small door. Beyond it was not a room or hallway as expected, but a distorted, mercury-like space flowing with eerie blue light.
"You're kidding, right?" Tony took a step back.
"Boom!!!"
The Sanctum's front doors suddenly exploded, sending splinters flying everywhere.
The Destroyer's towering figure appeared in the doorway, the orange glow beneath its faceplate like the gaze of death.
Tony felt a strange pulling force behind him, as though countless hands were tugging at his armor. At the moment he fell into the twisted space, the last thing he saw was Master Lin forming intricate hand seals, golden runes winding around the Destroyer's armor like living creatures.
"Find Thor! Don't trust any illusion!" Lin's voice vanished at the same instant as the distorted space.
"Sir! The dimensional barrier is collapsing!" JARVIS's warning exploded in his ears.
As the world spun around him, Tony felt as though his consciousness had been torn into pieces. Every piece of data on his armor display became garbled, and countless fragmented images flashed before his eyes: the glittering spires of the Golden Palace, a thunderstorm flashing with lightning, a blond giant bound in chains...
When Tony regained consciousness, he found himself standing on a quiet suburban street. Sunlight filtered through maple leaves and dappled the asphalt. Children's laughter drifted from the distance.
"Where... am I?" Tony looked down in confusion and discovered that he was wearing a casual shirt and jeans, with a box of freshly bought donuts in his hand.
"Dear?" A familiar voice came from behind him. Tony abruptly turned and saw Pepper standing beneath the porch of a white villa, flour staining her apron. "The new neighbors will be here soon. Remember you promised to help move their furniture?"
Tony opened his mouth, but no sound came out. Some deep instinct screamed that none of this was right, but the warm sunlight and Pepper's smiling eyes felt so real...
Meanwhile, in another layer of the Mirror Dimension, Thor Odinson was sitting in front of a barbecue grill in his backyard. He wore a plaid shirt and jeans, skillfully turning steaks over. Jane poked her head out from the kitchen window. "Dear, could you get the salad dressing?"
"Right away, my love," Thor replied with a smile. As he reached for the condiment bottle, a chain-shaped tattoo faintly appeared on his wrist. He frowned, but could not remember where it had come from.
When Tony rang the new neighbor's doorbell, Thor was the one who opened it. The moment the two men met each other's eyes, they both felt an inexplicable wave of dizziness.
"Have we..." Tony rubbed his temples. "Met somewhere before?"
Thor's blue pupils widened slightly, and the lights in the yard suddenly flickered. He instinctively looked up at the clear sky and muttered, "Strange. I think I hear thunder..."
Just then, Tony noticed that the chain tattoo on Thor's wrist was leaking a faint golden glow. He suddenly grabbed Thor's wrist. "What is this?"
"I don't know!" Thor suddenly became agitated, and objects in the yard began trembling for no reason. "It's been burning since this morning..."
Tony's pupils suddenly contracted.
"Sir?"
JARVIS's voice seemed to come from a distant void, blurry yet clear, as though it had pierced through a thick fog. Tony suddenly looked up and scanned his surroundings—the sunlight was still warm, Pepper stood smiling beneath the porch, and the chain tattoo on Thor's wrist flickered with eerie golden light.
Everything looked so real.
But JARVIS's voice was like a sharp blade, stabbing brutally into his consciousness.
"Sir, your vital signs are abnormal. Neural activity indicates that you are under deep hallucinatory interference."
Tony's breathing quickened. He stared fixedly at Thor, whose expression was gradually shifting from confusion into a painful struggle.
"Sir, based on analysis of the energy readings, you are currently within a deep illusion in the Mirror Dimension." JARVIS's voice was calm and firm. "Ms. Lin's warning was correct—do not trust the illusion."
"Don't... trust the illusion..."
Lin's words echoed in Tony's mind. His fingers tightened unconsciously, gripping Thor's wrist hard.
Thor suddenly raised his head, a flash of lightning passing through his blue pupils.
"Neighbor..." His voice was low and hoarse, as though it came from another world. "You feel it too, don't you?"
Tony's temples throbbed as the scene around him began to warp—the sunlight turned blinding, Pepper's figure scattered like a sand painting in the wind, and the villa walls flowed like melting wax.
"Thor!" Tony growled. "This isn't real!"
Thor's expression suddenly twisted into a snarl. He violently shook off Tony's hand as the lawn began to burn, the sky darkened, and thunderclouds churned overhead.
"Of course I know this isn't real!" Thor roared, his voice crashing like thunder. "But I've been trapped here for too long!"
The chain tattoo on his wrist suddenly shattered, golden runes winding around his arm like living things. Thor threw back his head and roared as a bolt of lightning struck him dead on!
"BOOM—!!!"
Tony was thrown to the ground by the shockwave, and the entire world collapsed like a shattered mirror.
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself kneeling on the floor of an ice crystal palace, frost covering the surface of his armor. Before him, Thor Odinson hung suspended in midair by seven rune-covered chains, his long golden hair hanging in disarray and his eyes tightly shut.
"Sir, the Mirror Layer has been confirmed." JARVIS's voice finally became clear again. "Target locked—Thor Odinson."
Tony struggled to his feet, his armor letting out the grinding screech of overstressed metal.
"Hey! Hey, action hero! Thor!" he shouted. "Wake up!"
Thor's body jolted. His eyelids trembled, then slowly opened—lightning surged through his azure eyes like a storm.
"...Neighbor?" His voice was hoarse and weak, yet carried a suppressed fury. "How did you get here?"
Tony grinned, despite the severe damage to his armor.
"Here to save you, big guy." He raised his repulsor, aiming it at the chains binding Thor. "Then we need to save two suicidal mages."
A savage smile slowly spread across Thor's lips.
"Good."
The next second, Tony pulled the trigger, and the energy blast roared forth!
