Background

Soi Fon is the ninth-generation youngest child of the Bee Family, a minor noble house devoted to assassination and execution. All five of her older brothers died on missions; their deaths drove her to train even harder for service. 42

During Yoruichi Shihōin’s coming-of-age ceremony, the Punishment Force formally renames her Soi Fon and teaches her that her life, future, and even death must be dedicated to the Shihōin princess. Seeing Yoruichi for the first time establishes the near-religious admiration that defines her early life. 60

Shadow recognizes her unwavering resolve and recommends her to Yoruichi as a potential recruit. She enters the Punishment Force, earns a place in Yoruichi’s personal guard after seven years, and comes to regard serving Yoruichi as the happiest period of her life. 42 56
