Werther first shrank his Thunder Sphere until it barely enclosed his body.
Then he gathered a mass of Lightning in his hand and slowly shaped it, until it finally became a grenade made entirely of Lightning.
This was an ability Werther had developed with Lightning: the Electromagnetic Grenade.
An Electromagnetic Grenade had a blast radius of only a few meters, but it had one advantage: Werther could detonate it remotely whenever he chose, and he could have several active at once.
Werther threw the finished Electromagnetic Grenade toward the swarm of insects. The swarm paid it no mind. When the grenade landed without doing anything else, the insects ignored it.
Werther immediately made a second Electromagnetic Grenade and threw it nearby.
The insects the old man had turned into had not given up attacking Werther. They kept trying to get close, only to be stopped by the Thunder Sphere.
The old man seemed incapable of learning. He launched the same suicidal attacks again and again.
