Werther ignored the guards at the city gate and walked straight up to see what was going on.
Even when he reached the gate, the guards made no move. Unlike everyone else, he was not asked to show identification.
The guards were usually arrogant and overbearing, but they were not idiots. The title of Shichibukai did not merely sound imposing. To many people, it also meant one thing: power.
And so, in the guards' eyes, Werther had miraculously become invisible.
Werther watched these sensible fellows with interest.
The captain of the gate guards grew deeply uncomfortable under Werther's gaze. If Werther could read minds, he would have heard this:
Brother, just go in. We'll pretend we never saw you, so please stop staring at us.
Werther paid them no further attention and headed for the inner city, the Heart of Flowers.
As he walked, Werther could not help reflecting that the real world was nothing like the anime. Few of the passersby or opponents he had met were complete idiots.
Apparently, only Luffy and his crew had that mysterious confidence. Then again, they had reason to be confident. If this world truly had a will of its own, Luffy was undoubtedly its chosen son.
After letting his thoughts wander, Werther passed through the gate and entered the inner city of the Island of Love and Flowers: the Heart of Flowers.
The scenery here was even more beautiful and peaceful than outside, though the towering walls all around somewhat spoiled the mood.
That had nothing to do with Werther, however. He was looking for a shop called the Moon Shield, and the tailor shop's owner had already told him exactly where it was.
Werther had no trouble with directions. Before long, he stood outside the shop in the modest-sized inner city.
