Werther walked over and picked up the leg beside the mangled remains. After examining it, he was certain it belonged to a child.

He guessed the child was a girl, since he had heard a girl cry for help moments earlier.

As Werther approached, Jewelry Bonney and Eustass Kid both spotted him.

Bonney's first instinct was to withdraw with her crew. But that would be too humiliating. Still, she was genuinely rattled, afraid the lunatic might suddenly attack her.

Kid glanced at Werther, then ignored him and prepared to keep going after Bonney.

Kid knew who Werther was, too, but he figured Werther had only gotten his Shichibukai position through luck. As for slaying a dragon? The Pirate World was full of strange creatures. Just because you called something a dragon, did that make it one?

So the arrogant newcomer paid Werther little mind.

That was hardly surprising. After reaching the New World, Kid had formed an alliance of weaklings to challenge Shanks.

The idea was idiotic, and Kid's luck was atrocious. While his alliance was resting on an island, they had run into Kaido, who had just jumped from a Sky Island to kill himself.

Kaido had beaten them senseless. Some of Kid's allies fled, others surrendered, and Kid himself ended up a prisoner.

This time, though, Kid might not live to become anyone's prisoner.

Werther was in a foul mood. He had killed plenty of people himself, but he avoided killing children when he could. That was a rule he had set for himself—provided the child posed no threat to him.

He was no Sanji, with his absolute refusal to kick women. If a child threatened him or his family, he would kill them without hesitation.

But the child whose leg he held had plainly been an unarmed
