The cool night breeze blew through an open window, stirring the hair of the man asleep on the bed.
Werther's face twitched twice, and he opened his eyes groggily.
He looked around, slowly coming to his senses.
"Ah, that was a good sleep."
Werther stretched, washed up, and got dressed.
He took out his Pocket Watch and glanced at it. It was already one in the morning. Perfect—everyone would be asleep.
But Werther was hungry. He had last eaten that afternoon.
Unfortunately, nobody sold late-night snacks in the Pirate World. If he wanted food, he would have to make it himself.
All he could do was take some homemade jerky from his Pocket Watch. He had seasoned it with the spicy flavors he remembered from his previous life.
Spicy Sea King jerky.
Werther took a bite. It was surprisingly good. The seasoning brought out the heat, and drying the Sea King meat had given it an even better chew.
After eating a large piece, Werther vanished from the hotel room. The curtains swayed in the gust he left behind, then fell still.
Werther bounded nimbly across the rooftops of the houses and, in moments, reached the building made almost entirely of glass.
The building stood over a hundred meters tall and was brightly lit. Werther could see marines inside sorting through money and documents. Occasionally, he saw them registering children.
Werther took off the pack on his back, pulled out a black leather outfit, and put it on. Then he took two objects resembling suction cups from the pack.
The cups came from a species of Octopus with remarkable vitality. Even after being removed, they remained active for days.
Werther had brought them because of one useful trait: once a cup had attached to something, twisting it and pressing downward
